Abstract

The lack of academic studies specifically examining the meaning of environmental prayer for rural Catholic communities living as minorities indicates a research gap, particularly in understanding the spiritual, social, and existential dimensions of prayer at the grassroots community level. This study aims to reveal the meaning of environmental prayer for the Catholic community in Ngesti Rahayu Village, Central Lampung, based on the life experiences and religious awareness of the people. This study employs a qualitative method using Edmund Husserl’s phenomenological approach to explore the religious experiences of the faithful as lived within their lifeworld, supplemented by a theological approach to interpret the field findings in light of Catholic Church teachings. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentary analysis, then analyzed through the stages of reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that environmental prayer is interpreted by the faithful in three main aspects: religious meaning as a space for encountering God and strengthening faith identity; social meaning as a means of building brotherhood, solidarity, and social capital within the community; and existential meaning as a source of inner peace, hope, and resilience in facing life’s challenges. These findings confirm that environmental prayer not only functions as a ritual practice but also plays an important role in shaping the communal spirituality and social cohesion of rural Catholics in a pluralistic society. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the thoughts of Wahbah Az-Zuhaili in Tafsir Al-Munir regarding verses about iron and its relevance to the development of modern science. The study focused on four groups of verses, namely Surah Al-Isra': 50, Al-Kahf: 96, Saba': 10–11, and Al-Hadid: 25, which were selected based on their relationship with the theme of metal materials, the process of processing iron, the strength of materials, and their useful function for human life. This research uses a qualitative approach with library research and thematic analysis (maudhu'i). To minimize subjectivity in connecting interpretation and science, this study limits the analysis to conceptual and correlative aspects, not to claims of direct scientific proof of Qur'anic verses. The data was analyzed through the interpretation of the text of the interpretation of Wahbah Az-Zuhaili which was then compared contextually with scientific findings in the field of modern metal materials and technology. The results of the study show that Wahbah Az-Zuhaili's interpretation of iron verses contains functional meanings related to the strength, flexibility, and use of metals in human life. The concept has relevance to the development of modern technologies, although the relationships found are inspiring-conceptual, not scientific causality. This study concludes that the verses about iron in the Qur'an can be understood as a source of ethical-intellectual value and inspiration in the development of material science and technology, as well as showing the contribution of the integrative interpretation of Wahbah Az-Zuhaili in building a dialogue between Islamic studies and modern science.

Abstract

This study explores how the alumni of the Raudhatul Qur’an Islamic Boarding School in Metro City contribute to community empowerment through the Living Qur’an framework. The research aims to examine the effectiveness of alumni-led initiatives in sustaining religious knowledge and practices in a city undergoing cultural and religious transitions. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach and a case study method, data were collected through in-depth interviews with alumni and pesantren caregivers, as well as documentation of institutional and community activities. The analysis employs Jim Ife’s community development theory and Robert D. Putnam’s social capital theory to assess how alumni utilize social trust, norms, and networks to promote Quranic values within society. The findings reveal a distinct model of Living Qur’an-based community empowerment implemented through three main strategies: active community participation, social justice, and local capacity building. The study concludes that the alumni effectively preserve and revitalize Quranic culture by leveraging their social capital, reinforcing the potential of religious institutions as drivers of community development in urban transitional contexts. This research contributes to the discourse on Islamic education, social cohesion, and faith-based community empowerment in contemporary urban settings.
