Abstract

Kolektor merupakan salah satu komponen utama dari mesin pendingin adsorpsi tenaga surya. Dapat dikatakan bahwa kolektor merupakan motor penggerak dari siklus yang terjadi pada mesin pendingin adsorpsi. Pada penelitian ini digunakan kolektor tipe plat datar dengan luas penampang 0,5 m2 dan diisi dengan menggunakan pasangan adsorpsi karbon aktif serbuk-metanol. Proses pengujian dilakukan di lokasi yang terkena paparan radiasi matahari selama beberapa hari. Alat ukur cuaca digunakan untuk mengetahui parameter yang diukur seperti intensitas radiasi, temperatur dan kelembaban udara lingkungan. Sedangkan alat ukur termokopel yang terhubung dengan alat akuisisi data digunakan untuk merekam perubahan temperatur pada komponen kolektor dan mesin pendingin adsorpsi. Hasil eksperimental menunjukkan bahwa efisiensi kolektor yang diperoleh memiliki nilai maksimum sebesar 55,43%. Diperoleh juga pengaruh kondisi cuaca terhadap kinerja kolektor berdasarkan analisa statistik sebesar 72%

Abstract

In heat exchanger analysis using the Earth Air Heat Exchanger method, the overall heat transfer coefficient is known. This tool uses tubes in its design. The weakness of tube and plate type heat exchangers is the relatively low heat transfer coefficient, which can only reach a maximum of 60%. Therefore, a method to improve the heat transfer efficiency is using a fin. The purpose of this study is to calculate and compare the effectiveness (ε) value of experimental and theoretical of the Earth Air Heat Exchanger, as well as to find out the value of the coefficient of performance. The result showed that the average COP value of the experimental result is 0.63 at a speed of 1 m / s, 0.54 at the speed of 2 m / s, and 0.75 at the speed of 3 m / s, while theoretically is 0 , 73 at 1 m / s, 0.57 at 2 m / s, and 0.80 at 3m / s. For the value of the average effectiveness of the experimental results obtained 0.85 at the speed of 1 m / s, 0.93 at the speed of 2 m / s, and 0.89 at the speed of 3 m / s, while the theoretical result is 0.995 at the speed of 1 m / s, 0.997 at 2 m / s, and 0.998 at 3 m / s.

Abstract

One application of direct evaporation cooling system was a natural refrigerator. The advantages of this natural refrigerator was operating without using electrical energy or mechanical energy and environmentally friendly. This study aims to gain a performance analysis of natural refrigerator as a store of vegetables and fruits which uses water as the cooling medium. Material of natural refrigerator consists of teak wood and gunny. Experiments were conducted during seven days in the open space which exposure to solar radiation. The measurement of weather parameter was done by using HOBO devices and to record temperature changes of vegetables and fruits in the natural refrigerator was used acquisition data. The results showed that the efficiency of natural refrigerator maximum that can be obtained was 14.7% with an average air temperature of 25,55oC, air humidity average of 91.34% and an average solar radiation of 108.45 W/m2. The experimental data showed that the freshness of vegetables and fruits heavily influenced by weather conditions.

Abstract

A series of researches about characteristic of stability and performance of conversion kits shows that imported conversion kits manufactured by several vendors that are used by public in Indonesia still need some improvement in their design. The conversion kits consist of CNG main tank, mixer and pressure regulator. In this research simulated pressure regulator which have three steps restriction which the change of valves position is influenced by pressure inlet and pressure in the chambers. The simulation of fluid flow in pressure regulator can be modelled with the aide of FIRE v70b_Pl3. In this modelling were done variation of inlet and outlet position. The varying made which aim to observe correlation of the change of pressure and outlet mass flow with position changing. Besides, were done varying outlet diameter of pressure regulator and the change of inlet pressure. The results show that the change of inlet and outlet position were done not shows significant changing both pressure in the chambers and outlet mass flow from pressure regulator. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Serangkaian penelitian yang dilakukan terhadap karakteristik stabilitas dan prestasi kit menunjukkan bahwa kit konversi yang diimpor di Indonesia masih memerlukan beberapa perbaikan. Peralatan kit konversi ini antara lain terdiri dari tabung pengisian BBG, pencampur, dan penurun tekanan. Pada penelitian ini disimulasikan penurun tekanan yang terdiri dari tiga ruang yang bekerja dengan perubahan posisi katup dipengaruhi oleh tekanan masuk dan tekanan di dalam ruang penurun tekanan. Simulasi 3-D aliran fluida di dalam penurun tekanan ini menggunakan perangkat lunak program CFD Fire versi v7.0b_pl3. Pada pemodelan penurun tekanan ini dilakukan perubahan posisi lubang masuk dan posisi lubang keluar. Hal ini dilakukan untuk melihat korelasi perubahan tekanan di dalam ruang penurun tekanan terhadap perubahan posisi tersebut dan pengaruhnya terhadap laju aliran massa keluar. Disamping itu dilakukan juga perubahan terhadap diameter lubang keluar, tekanan keluar, dan perubahan tekanan masuk. Hasil simulasi memperlihatkan bahwa perubahan posisi lubang masuk dan posisi lubang keluar yang dilakukan tidak menunjukkan perubahan yang signifikan baik terhadap tekanan dalam ruang maupun laju aliran massa keluar dari penurun tekanan. Kata kunci: prestasi kit konversi, penurun tekanan, perubahan posisi lubang masuk dan lubang keluar, tekanan dan laju aliran massa keluar.

Abstract

The performance of a flat plate collector on adsorption refrigerator driven by the solar collector was investigated in the present work. Based on a study conducted no researcher studies the performance of solar collectors used in adsorption cooling system. The adsorbent used in the collector was 20 kg ordinary powder activated carbon of coconut shell produced in the Sumatera Utara province of Indonesia, 5 liters of methanol as adsorbate and 6 liters of water as the medium that was cooled. The experiments were carried out under varying weather conditions with total solar radiation about 12619-17807 kJ/m2/cycle in Medan city. The experimental results show that the values of collector efficiency obtained were about 52.11-53.92%. The values of coefficient of performance (COP) obtained were in the range of 0.0318-0.0449. The results of the statistical study suggest that the effect of the weather conditions on collector efficiency thereabout 96%.

Abstract

Energy is one of the main things in a country's economic growth, but saving energy is one of the main challenges in the world today. In developing countries such as Indonesia, the energy sector is considered a crucial sector, because consumption demand increases compared to production. Therefore, to reduce energy consumption it is necessary to save energy. Earth-air heat exchanger cooling systems are one of them. The research objective was to determine the effectiveness performance of the EAHE system on changes in room temperature according to weather conditions in Medan city. The implication of this research is to reduce the consumption of electricity or fuel oil and environmental pollution. The test room has dimensions of 200 cm x 200 cm x 200 cm. Testing using a flat plate type solar collector to help the process of air movement by taking advantage of differences in air temperature. The testing process starts at 08.00 WIB to 17.00 WIB for nine hours everyday. The measurement results show that various weather conditions include radiation intensity, ambient temperature and humidity. During the test, the radiation intensity ranged from 38.10-892.12 W/m2, the variation in ambient temperature from 24.65-35.29oC and the average air humidity 68.93%. The experimental data showed that the fluctuation of indoor air temperature ranged from 23.01 to 31.84oC and the average room temperature 27.83oC. This study resulted in an average effectiveness value of the EAHE system of 51.49%. According to the result of the statistical studies, the weather conditionsthe effectiveness of the EAHE system by51,56%.

Abstract

The primary purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of thermoelectric cooler driven by solar energy in Medan city, Indonesia. This cooler able to use in a remote area where electricity is still not available. The cooler could be used to store beverage that must be stored at low temperatures to maintain the freshness such as drink cup. The solar thermoelectric cooler is based on the principles of a thermoelectric module or Peltier effect to create a hot side and a cold side. The cold side of the thermoelectric module is utilized for cooling purposes to the cooling space. The heat from the hot side of the module is rejected to ambient surroundings by using heat sinks and fans. The solar thermoelectric cooler was experimentally tested for the cooling purpose. Experimental results showed that the solar thermoelectric cooler could reduce the temperature of the drink cup from 26oC to 15oC in approximately 40 min. The maximum COP of the cooling system during the experiment was calculated and found to be about 0.356. The effect of weather conditions on the COP value was about 85.90%.

Abstract

National energy data note that Indonesia fossil energy potential consisting of petroleum, natural gas and coal can only last for 10 years, 31 years and 80 years from now if no new fossil energy reserves are found. It is necessary to save energy to anticipate these conditions. One of the efforts that have been done is saving the consumption of fuel oil that is used in the internal combustion engine. This research aims to increase the performance by reducing fuel consumption and exhaust emissions by using magnetic devices. The equipment of magnetic is placed on the intake manifold which is varied 10 cm, 20 cm, and 30 cm from the combustion chamber to determine the effect of installing a magnetic field on the performance of the Otto engine. Gas emission analyzer is placed on the exhaust gas section. Besides that, there were also variations in engine speed consisting of 2000 rpm, 2500 rpm, 3000 rpm, 3500 rpm, and 4000 rpm. Experimental data show that there is an increase in power and thermal efficiency and a decrease in specific fuel consumption when the engine uses magnetic devices ranging from 5.99-22.02%. The exhaust gas emissions produced by Otto engine also decreased for CO and HC thereabouts 6-20%.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of biodiesel fuel from dimethyl ester on four-stroke stationary diesel engines' performance and exhaust emissions. Tests were carried out using B10 and B30 fuels with engine speed variations and load variations without modifying the engine. The results showed that the torque, power, and thermal efficiency tended to decrease when using B10 and B30. In addition, the specific fuel consumption has increased when the engine uses B10 and B30. But exhaust emissions of CO and unburned hydrocarbon (UHC) decreased NOx and increased CO2 when the engine uses B10 and B30. This research also obtains the correlations and regression equations involving engine performance parameters.

Abstract

Most of the Besar II Terjun Village residents live in agriculture. So far, people still use conventional methods to separate rice by hitting the harvested rice. In this community service activity, a rice threshing machine was designed. The rice thresher machine has power = 5.5 HP with engine type = Air Cooled 4 Stroke OHV Single Cylinder; maximum torque = 1.1 Kg.m / 3600 rpm; and maximum output = 4 KW / 4000 rpm. This machine has a capacity of 300 kg/minute. This community service activity aims to help the Sukapura Village community maximize its potential and provide insight for SMEs regarding effectiveness, efficiency, productivity, and safety in carrying out the catfish production process. The methods used include observation methods to determine the needs of SMEs for processed catfish food, design methods, presentation methods, and discussion methods as a form of assistance in starting a catfish product processing business. Sebagian besar penduduk Desa Besar II Terjun mempunyai mata pencaharian di bidang pertanian. Selama ini masyarakat masih menggunakan cara konvensional dalam melakukan pemisahan padi,yaitu dengan memukul padi yang dipanen. Pada kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan perancangan mesin perontok padi.  Mesin perontok padi yang dirancang memiliki daya = 5,5 HP; dengan tipe mesin = Air Cooled 4 Tak OHV Single Cylinder; torsi maksimum = 1,1 Kg.m / 3600 rpm; dan putput maksimum = 4 KW / 4000 rpm. Mesin ini memiliki kapasitas 300 kg/menit. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk membantu masyarakat Desa Sukapura dalam memaksimalkan potensi yang ada dan memberikan wawasan bagi pelaku UKM mengenai efektivitas, efisiensi, produktivitas, serta keselamatan dalam melakukan proses produksi olahan lele. Metode yang dilakukan antara lain, metode observasi untuk mengetahui kebutuhan UKM makanan olahan lele, metode perancangan, metode presentasi, dan metode diskusi sebagai bentuk pendampingan dalam merintis usaha olahan produk lele.
