Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of garlic extract supplementation as an immunostimulant and feed additive on the survival of Nile tilapia fry reared in an intensive aquaculture system under high stocking density, and to determine the most effective dosage. The study employed an experimental method using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of four treatments with three replicates: no extract, 5 g/kg, 10 g/kg, and 15 g/kg of feed administered over a 28-day rearing period. The primary parameter observed was survival rate, supported by growth data. Data were analyzed using ANOVA at a 95% confidence level, followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The results showed that garlic extract supplementation improved survival compared with the control, with values of 53.3%, 61.7%, 70.0%, and 65.0%, respectively. The treatment with 10 g/kg feed produced the highest and most optimal survival rate. A higher dose did not result in further improvement, presumably because of reduced feed palatability and the physiological response of the fish. It can be concluded that garlic extract supplementation significantly affected the performance of Nile tilapia fry, with 10 g/kg identified as the most effective dose for enhancing resistance to environmental stress. This study also provides a practical contribution by recommending an optimal dose of natural feed additive for intensive aquaculture systems.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of incorporating several natural sources of β-carotene into feed on improving the color brightness of goldfish. An experimental method was employed using a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications: P1 as the control, P2 with carrot powder, P3 with papaya powder, and P4 with tomato powder, each added to the feed at the same dosage. Color brightness was measured using a color-chart-based scale analysis, and the resulting data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post hoc test. The results showed no significant differences among treatments during the initial observation period (F = 1.916; p = 0.129). However, significant differences were observed in the subsequent assessment (F = 461.230; p < 0.001; η² = 0.894). The highest color brightness was recorded in P2, which received carrot powder, followed by P3 with papaya powder, P4 with tomato powder, and P1 as the control. These findings indicate that natural sources of β-carotene have a strong effect on enhancing the color brightness of goldfish. They also provide practical implications for developing natural feeds based on locally available ingredients for ornamental fish culture.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of adding natural carotenoid sources to feed on the enhancement of color intensity and survival rate of fish. The study employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications, namely P1 (control), P2 (6% spirulina), P3 (8% spirulina), and P4 (10% spirulina). The experiment was conducted for 30 days using 60 experimental fish. The observed parameters included color intensity and survival rate. Data were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA. The results showed a significant difference among treatments on fish color intensity (P < 0.05). Treatment P3 (8% spirulina) produced the highest color intensity value (21.12 ± 0.27), followed by P4 (10%) (20.76 ± 0.19) and P2 (6%) (20.66 ± 0.07), while the lowest value was observed in P1 (control) (20.55 ± 0.14). However, no significant difference was found in the survival rate (P > 0.05), with the highest value in P1 (93%) and the other treatments showing similar values (87%). The addition of spirulina significantly improved fish color intensity, with the 8% dosage being the most effective treatment, but it did not significantly affect the survival rate.

Abstract

Pokdakan Teratai Baru di Desa Pasar Baru, Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai menghadapi ketergantungan tinggi terhadap pakan komersial yang menyerap 68% biaya produksi dengan volatilitas harga 15–20% per tahun, sementara terdapat potensi limbah organik 2–3 ton per hari yang belum termanfaatkan. Karang Taruna dengan 25 anggota muda memiliki akses teknologi tinggi (94% pengguna smartphone), namun belum mengoptimalkan kemampuan digitalnya untuk aktivitas ekonomi produktif. Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah meningkatkan kapasitas teknis Pokdakan dalam produksi pakan mandiri berbasis budidaya maggot Black Soldier Fly hingga mencapai minimal 70% kemampuan operasional, serta meningkatkan keterampilan digital marketing Karang Taruna sebesar 100% melalui kolaborasi lintas generasi.Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan pendekatan Sequential Capacity Building dengan prinsip Start Small, Scale Smart, berbasis model University–Community–Government Partnership dan metode Participatory Action Research (PAR). Program dilakukan melalui lima tahapan: sosialisasi, pelatihan teknis, pembangunan infrastruktur produksi, implementasi terbatas, serta monitoring dan evaluasi partisipatif. Hasil tahun pertama menunjukkan partisipasi pelatihan 100% pada budidaya maggot dan 96% pada digital marketing dengan peningkatan pengetahuan masing-masing 83% dan 107%. Infrastruktur produksi mencapai 75% penyelesaian, menghasilkan tepung maggot berkualitas dengan protein 42,3%. Program juga menghasilkan 52 konten promosi digital, meningkatkan partisipasi masyarakat dalam pengelolaan limbah organik dari 30% menjadi 78%, serta memperkuat kolaborasi antara Pokdakan dan Karang Taruna. Program ini telah membangun fondasi kuat untuk kemandirian pakan ikan dan transformasi ekonomi desa berbasis ekonomi sirkular

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of fishmeal substitution using chicken feather meal in pellets on growth, water quality, and survival of tilapia (Oreocromis niloticus), to determine the effectiveness of fishmeal substitution using chicken feather meal in pellets on FCR value, how the physical test value of floating pellets substituted with chicken feather meal, and what factors need to be updated in an effort to improve the quality of floating pellet feed substituted with chicken feather meal. The results of absolute growth research on fermented chicken feather meal pellets were 5.07 grams/head, non-fermented chicken feather meal pellets were 5.11 grams/head, and conventional pellets were 5.03 grams/head. While the results of absolute length growth on fermented chicken feather meal pellets were 3.21 cm/head, and absolute length growth for non-fermented chicken feather meal pellets was 3.24 cm/head, while for conventional pellets was 3.28 cm/head. The survival rate ranged from 62% - 68% during rearing with an FCR value of 0.6. Although the survival rate obtained was not good, the water quality during the study including pH, DO, and temperature showed good results in accordance with the quality standards. While the results of organoleptic observations of feed showed that the non-fermented artificial feed observed by the testers had a more pungent aroma than the fermented artificial feed, and conventional pellets tended to have a strong odor aroma. Abstract

This research was conducted in February-March 2023, at the Dharmawangsa University Laboratory. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of fish meal substitution using maggot flour in floating pellets on growth, life expectancy of tilapia and FCR (Food Conversion Ratio). Tilapia is widely cultivated by the community so that it has economic value with high market demand. The high price of feed causes many farmers to suffer losses. To overcome the problem of losses, cultivators use maggot as a substitute for fish meal to be used as a local raw material which has the advantage of being relatively cheap, high protein and increasing the digestibility of fish. The research method used experimental methods with the treatment of artificial feeding with fish meal protein sources and maggot flour protein sources and analyzed using the T test. The results of absolute growth research on fish meal pellets were 3.5 and maggot flour pellets 3.6. This shows that maggot flour can be used as a local raw material in the manufacture of fish feed. The results of the survival rate of tilapia by giving fish meal pellets were 60% and giving maggot flour pellets was 55%. Fish meal pellets and giving maggot flour pellets show that they can support the basic needs of fish and can support fish life. The results of the study showed that the FCR value for fish meal pellets was 1.36 and for maggot flour pellets was 1.36.
