Abstract

Barrel composting offers an efficient and sustainable solution for organic waste management in community settings particularly at the household level. Waste management is also a problem in rural areas including the village of Luthi Lamweu, District of Sukamakmir, Aceh Besar. This program aimed to educate and produce about barrel composting using organic household waste by engaging women. By converting household organic waste into nutrient-rich compost, barrel composting helps reduce landfill waste while improving soil health for local agriculture. Women's participation played a crucial role in the success of this initiative, as they learned about composting techniques and the value of waste recycling. The project not only promoted environmental awareness but also encouraged local ownership of sustainable practices. The findings demonstrate that barrel composting can serve as a practical, scalable solution for organic waste management, contributing to both environmental conservation and community empowerment.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of village fund allocations on economic growth and development in Indonesia within the decentralized development framework. Indonesia’s economic progress remains less inclusive, hindered by infrastructure disparities and centralized development legacies. To address regional inequalities, the government implemented village funds since 2015, aiming to spur rural development. Using a quantitative approach, this research applies the Difference-in-Difference (DID) method to analyze panel data from Indonesian districts and cities between 2011 and 2019. The study compares treatment areas receiving village funds to control areas without such funding, controlling for infrastructure, population, poverty, education, and other socioeconomic factors. Findings reveal that village fund allocations positively and significantly contribute to economic growth and development indicators, reflected in improved infrastructure and increased economic activities, such as the proliferation of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes). Although the impact is statistically significant, it remains relatively modest, suggesting room for improved fund utilization and distribution mechanisms. The research highlights the need for continued provision of village funds alongside enhanced accountability to maximize developmental benefits. This study addresses a critical aspect of Indonesia’s inclusive growth agenda, demonstrating the role of decentralized funding in rural economic empowerment. The robust methodological approach and empirical evidence support policy recommendations for sustaining and optimizing village fund programs to foster balanced regional development nationwide.

Abstract

The need of wood as one of raw materials in furniture industry keeps increasing. One of efforts to reduce wood consumption is to develop research by creating composite design from material that contains sellulose to be particle board. Particle board is one of material alternatives that can be wood substitute. The objective of this research is to investigate the effect of natural-adhesive-mixture composition (acacia bark and gambier) with oil-palm-empty bunch toward mechanical property of particle board. Characterization of particle board was carried out by undertaking mechanical property testing (tensile strength and compressive strength) under wet and dry conditions. Composition variations of adhesive and oil-palm-empty bunch were 30:70; 40:60; 50:50; 60:40; 70:30. Making process of particle board is carried out by mixing oil-palm-empty bunch and adhesive with addition of 2% para-formaldehyde and water as much of 10%. Furthermore, the mixture is compressed by using Hot Press at temperature of 150oC and pressure of 10 kg/cm2 for 15 minutes. The research result indicates that the higher the adhesive composition (either adhesives of acacia bark or gambier), particle board resulted is better. In dry condition, values of the tensile strength of particle boards that have acacia bark adhesive and gambier adhesive have range of 84.2 - 104 Kgf/cm2 and 83.4 - 81.5 kg/cm2, respectively. Whereas, values of compressive strength of particle boards that have adhesives of acacia bark and gambier are in the range of 6.8 - 10.5 kg/cm2 and 6.3 - 9.3 kg/cm2, respectively. The values of tensile strength and compressive strength are obtained on compositions of adhesive: oil-palm-empty bunch 40:60, and they have fulfilled satandard of SNI 03-2105-1996. The values of tensile strength and compressive strength of particle board in wet condition, either adhesives of acacia bark or gambier, have not fulfilled standard of SNI 03-2105-1996.Keywords: empty-bunch-oil palm, acacia bark, gambier, particle board, tensile strength

Abstract

Drying method is one of techniques used in food preservation. This method usually means reducing water content which is the best contiditon for microorganism growth. Higher water content also causes some enzyms needed for food decomposition cannot work well. This research aims to produce corn milk powder and to study some variables effecting on quality of corn milk powder. Hopefully the results can provide some information and produce good quality of corn milk powder. The drying process was carried out with batch process where the material was put into spray dryer and the process was allowed for the given period of time. Heat was added by direct contact to the material. The pressures of the chamber were 2, 4, 6 and 8 bars and the temperatures were 100, 150, 200 and 250oC. The best results of the research of protein, fat and water contents were 25.86 %, 18.34%, and 6.14%, recpectively. Keywords: atomizer pressure, cornmilk powder, spray dryer, temperature
