Abstract

The objectives of this study were to analyze the eggs nutritional characterics and quality from laying hens fed with diried papaya (Carica papaya L) peel meal diets. A total 200 brown laying hens strain MB 402 (42 week-old). The design used in this study was  a The objectives of this study were to analyze the eggs’ nutritional characteristics and quality from laying hens fed with dried papaya (Carica papaya L) peel meal diets. A total of 200 brown laying hens strain MB 402 (42 week-old) were used in this experiment. The design used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments and 4 replications (10 hens each). The treatments consisted of dried papaya peel meal (DPPM) 0%, 3%, 6%, 9% and 12%. Total feeding trial was 8 weeks. The parameters recorded included egg weight (g/bird)), egg yolk weight (g/bird), yolk index (%), albumen index (%), egg yolk color, egg cholesterol (mg/100g), egg crude protein (%), egg crude fat (%), egg white crude protein (%), egg yellow fat (%),  eggshell calcium (%), eggshell phosphorus (%), blood cholesterol (mg/dl), blood LDL cholesterol (mg/dl), and blood HDL cholesterol (mg/dl) of the laying hens. The results showed that feeding birds with 12 %   increased egg yolk weight, egg yolk color, egg crude fat, egg yellow fat, egg cholesterol, egg shell calcium, egg shell phosphor, blood cholesterol, blood HDL. Moreover there were no significant differences in egg weight, yolk index , albumen index, egg crude protein, egg white crude protein and blood LDL. In Conclusion, DPPM diets can be fed to the laying hens up to 12 % to produce eggs without negative effects on the egg quality.ransomized design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments and 4 replications (10 hens each). Moreover there were no significant diffirence in egg weight, yolk index, albumen index, egg crude protein, egg white crude protein and blood LDL. In conclusion DPPM diets can be fed to the laying hens up to 12 % to produce eggs without negative effects on the egg quality.

Abstract

The research aimed to determine the characteristics and quality of egg of commercial laying hens fed ration supplemented with garlic (Allium sativum) powder. The research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and four replicates (5 hens each) for a total of 100 brown laying hens strain MB 402. Garlic powder contained 24.62% crude protein, 38.81% fat, and 1.74% crude fiber. The treatments of garlic powder ration were 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8%. The treatments performed were dietary, with R0 = 100% based diet (BD); R1= 98% based diet (BD) + 2% garlic meal (GM); R2= 96% based diet (BD) + 4% GM, R3 = 94% based diet (BD) + 6% GM, R4 = 92% based diet (BD) + 8% GM. The study was conducted during eight (8) weeks. Collected data were quality, weight, shell weight, albumen weight and shell thickness of eggs. Data was analyzed with Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and continued with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that 8% garlic powder ration increased weight and albumen weight of eggs. There were no significant effect of treatments in yolk weight, shell weight and shell thickness of eggs. Garlic powder supplementation on laying hen ration affected egg weight and albumen weight. The addition of garlic powder on laying hen ration of up to 4% increased egg weight. Albumen weight increased until garlic powder supplementation of up to 8%. It is recommended the use of 8% garlic powder supplementation on lying hen ration without negative effects on egg quality.

Abstract

UTILIZATION EFFECT OF COCONUT OIL IN RATION ON BODY WEIGHT, PERCENTAGES OF CARCASS AND ABDOMINAL FAT IN SUPER NATIVE HENS. This study was conducted to evaluate utilization effect of coconut oil in ration on body weight, percentages of carcass and abdominal fat in super native hens. This study was involving hundred unsexed super native hens at ages of eight weeks with the average initial body weight of 862.24 g ± 44.13 g. The treatments were ration without coconut oil (CO) utilization (R0), ration of 99.5% basal added with 0.5% CO (R1), ration of 99% basal added with 1% CO (R2), ration of 98.5% basal added with 1.5% CO (R3), and ration of 98.0% basal added with 2.0% CO (R4). The completely randomized design was applied as design with five treatments consisted of five replications at each treatment. Each experimental unit was put four heads of super native hens. The significant treatments were tested by Duncan’s test. Variables measured were life body weight, slaughter body weight, carcass weight and carcass percentage as well as abdominal percentage. Results showed that utilization effect of coconut oil in ration had the same effects on percentages carcassand abdominal fat, but had significant effect on life body weight and carcass weight. Therefore, it was concluded that utilizatilization of coconut oil up to 2 percents in ratio increased life body weight and carcass weight. Keyword: carcass weight, coconut oil, super native chicken.

Abstract

UTILIZATION OF ENSILAGE KEPOK BANANA PEELS REPLACING PART OF CORN IN THE DIET ON CARCASSES AND VISCERA INDICES OF BROILER. The purpose of the present research was to determine the substitution of corn with ensilage kepok banana peels (Musa paradisiaca formatypica) in the diet on  carcasses and viscera indices of broiler. Trial was arranged using an experimental study. Sixty unsexed Cobb day old Chicks (DOC) were used in a Completely Randomized Design arrangement, with 4 treatments and 5 replications. Treatments were formulated as follow: R0 = 50% yellow corn + 0% ensilage kepok banana peels, R1 = 42,5% yellow corn + 7,5% ensilage kepok banana peels, R2 = 35% yellow corn + 15% ensilage kepok banana peels, R3 = 27,5% yellow corn + 22.5% ensilage kepok banana peels. Parameters measured were: carcass weight (g), abdominal fat (%), liver weight (%), and gizzard weight (%). Research results showed that, the subtitution of yellow corn with ensilage kepok banana peels gave a significant different (P<0,05) effect on carcass weight, abdominal fat percentage, liver weight percentage, and gizzard weight percentage. The higher the ensilage kepok banana peels replacing corn in the diets, the lower the carcass weight and abdominal fat percentage, whereas liver weight percentage and gizzard weight percentage both decreased as the subtitution of ensilage kepok   banana    peels   increased.  Carcass percentage was the only parameter that was not affected (P>0,05) by treatments. It can be concluded that the utilization of ensilage kepok banana peels up to 30% or 15% can still substitute yellow corn in broiler diets.   Keywords : Broiler, Kepok Banana Peels, Carcasses, Viscera

Abstract

THE EFFECT OF THE USE OF PAPAYA LEAVES SUBSTITUTED TO BASAL DIET ON THE PERCENTAGE OF CARCASS AND ABDOMINAL FAT PERCENTAGE OF BROILER CHICKEN. This study aims to determine the effect of papaya leaf meal substituted to basal diet on the carcass weight, percentage of carcass, and abdominal fat of broilers. This study used 80 unsexed broilers, day old chick (DOC). The experiment used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 5 replications. The arrangement of the experimental treatments was as follows: R₀ = 100% basal diet (BD), 0% papaya leaf meal (PLM), R₁ = 95% BD + 5% PLM, R₂ = 90% BD + 10% PLM, R₃ = 85% BD + 15% PLM. The results showed that partial replacement of the basal diet with with papaya leaf meal had no significant effect on carcass weight and the percentage of broiler abdominal fat. The treatment gave a very significant difference on the percentage of carcass. On carcass percentage results showed that R0 was highly significant different from R3 but not significantly different with R2 and R1. Treatment R1 was significantly different from R3 but not significantly different from R2, whereas between treatments R2 and R3 were significantly different. Based on the results of this study it can be stated that the use of papaya leaf meal up to level of 15% can produce a good proportion of carcass and abdominal fat. Keywords: broiler, papaya leaf meal, carcasses, abdominal fat.

Abstract

The broiler is one of the potential husbandry commodities to be developed, but its development faces various risks, particularly production risk. This is indicated by fluctuating mortality of broiler in each period. This research aimed to analyze some production factors determining production and production risk of broiler production activity in the Regency of North Minahasa, Province of North Sulawesi.  In addition, the research's site was purposively determined, such as six villages representing three districts (District of Dimembe, Kauditan, and Kalawat) having the largest population of breeders under partnership program in the Regency of North Minahasa. From each village, then, breeders were selected by sampling method, comprising 27 breeders of Village of Dimembe, 18 breeders of Village of Matungkas, 19 breeders of Village of Kauditan Satu, 16 breeders of Village of Kauditan Dua, 13 breeders of Village of Kolongan and 10 breeders of Village of Suwaan. The sample of breeders was 100 respondents of the breeder. Further, data collected by survey and analyzed employing Just and Pope Analysis to know some production impacts against production and production risk of broiler. In conclusion, the research shows that the variable of a total of feed, heater, ammotrol, rice husk, and a total of labors could improve broiler production, and variable of Day Old Chick (DOC) could decrease broiler production. Variable of a total of feed, vitamin, rice husk, and a total of labors could decrease production risk of broiler, but a total of a day of chicks could increase production risk of broiler.

Abstract

The research aimed to examine effects of Aleurites moluccana (L.) Willd. (Candlenut) Seed Flour used in feed toward egg quality and cholesterol contents of egg-laying native chicken. The research method used was Completely Randomized Design and was continued with Duncan’s test if significant different present. There were 5 treatments comprising of R0 = 100 % of Basal Diet (BD), R1 = 98.5% of Basal Diet (BD) + 1.5 % of Candlenut Seed Flour (CSF), R2 = 97 % of Basal Diet (BD) + 3% of CSF, R3 = 95.5% of Basal Diet (BD) + 4.5 % of CSF, R4 = 94% of Basal Diet (BD) + 6 % of CSF and replications, of which each replication consisted of 8 egg-laying native chickens. In addition, 50 eggs derived from egg-laying native chickens were taken weekly for quality analysis. Variables of this research were egg weight (g/egg), albumen (g/egg), yolk colour, yolk weight (g/egg), egg yolk cholesterol (mg/100g), blood cholesterol (ml/dl), blood LDL (ml/dl), blood HDL (ml/dl), and blood triglycerides (ml/dl), and egg shell’s weight (g/egg) and thickness (mm). As a result, the effects of CSF up to 6 percent of feeding had significant result (P<0.01) to egg’s weight, albumen, yolk colour, yolk weight, cholesterol, blood cholesterol, blood LDL, blood HDL and blood triglycerides, but not significant (p>0.05) on egg shell’s weight and thickness. Therefore, the use of 6 % of Candlenut) Seed Flour in feed had positive effects to improve egg quality and cholesterol contents of egg-laying native chicken.

A total of 200 laying 58-week-old hens were used in the study, with 5 treatments and 5 replications, each of which was filled with 8 chickens. The treatments were applied in a completely randomized design, continued with Duncan’s test. The treatments given by kepok banana flour were 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% substitution of corn flour. This research was conducted for 8 weeks. The parameters measure included egg crude protein (%), egg crude fat (%), egg white crude protein (%), egg yellow fat (%), egg cholesterol (mg/100 g), blood cholesterol (mg/dl), blood LDL cholesterol (mg/dl), and blood HDL cholesterol (mg/dl) of the laying hens. The results showed that the utilization of kepok banana flour up to 20% substitution of yellow corn had a highly significant effect on egg protein content, egg white protein, egg fat content, egg cholesterol content, chicken blood cholesterol, chicken blood HDL, chicken blood LDL and triglycerides of chicken blood. It was concluded that kepok banana flour substitution of up to 20% as a feed source can increase the nutritional content of chicken eggs and the fat profile of laying hens.

Abstract

Batuputih Village, Ranowulu District, Bitung, North Sulawesi Province is a buffer village in the Tangkoko conservation area. The daily life of this village community coexists with wild animals, and their cattle are often grazed on the outskirts of the area causing them to have risk factors for contracting zoonoses. Therefore, education on zoonoses and their distribution to cattle farmers in Batuputih Bitung village, North Sulawesi Province has been carried out by a team from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Sam Ratulangi University from April to August 2022 through a community partnership program. The method of implementing these activities is carried out in 3 forms, namely Focus group discussions and interviews, Lectures, and Rabies Vaccination and Practices. A total of 10 cattle breeders and 10 government officials were given knowledge to be able to recognize signs of illness in livestock and how to control them and how to report them to livestock health officers. A total of 60 dogs have been vaccinated against Rabies. The local government and the people of Batuputih have understood the dangers of zoonoses. Regular mentoring activities are needed so that the level of awareness of this village community in preventing zoonoses is high and they behave in a clean and healthy way. Kehidupan sehari-hari masyarakat desa ini berdampingan dengan satwa liar, dan ternak sapinya sering digembalakan di pinggiran kawasan menyebabkan mereka mempunyai faktor resiko tertular zoonosis. Oleh karena itu telah dilakukan Edukasi zoonosis dan penyebarannya pada peternak sapi di desa Batuputih Bitung Propinsi Sulawesi Utara oleh tim Fakultas Peternakan Universitas Sam Ratulangi pada bulan April hingga Agustus 2022 melalui program kemitraan masyarakat. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan tersebut  dilakukan dalam 3 bentuk yaitu Fokus grup diskusi dan wawancara, Ceramah, serta Praktek dan vaksinasi Rabies. Sejumlah 10 orang peternak sapi  dan 10 orang aparat pemerintah diberikan pengetahuan untuk mampu mengenal tanda-tanda sakit pada ternak dan cara mengendalikannya serta cara pelaporannya kepada petugas kesehatan ternak. Sejumlah 60 ekor anjing telah divaksin Rabies. Pemerintah setempat dan masyarakat Batuputih telah memahami akan bahaya zoonosis.   Diperlukan kegiatan pendampingan secara regular agar tingkat kepedulian masyarakat desa ini dalam mencegah  zoonosis menjadi tinggi dan berprilaku  bersih dan hidup sehat.Kata kunci: zoonosis; rabies; vaksinasi; Batuputih
