Abstract

Direct elections do not always run well. The aggressiveness of political partisans, who are sometimes hostile – swearing and verbally blaspheming one another on social media – during the campaign triggers a wider public conflict. Teenagers play an active role as novice voters in elections, yet verbal aggression of social conflicts on social media is prone to occur. This study is a multi-year research. In the first year, it mapped down the verbal aggression tendencies of young voters in Indonesia using literature and explanatory studies. It examined the theory and identified factors inducing polite behaviors. It was conducted in several areas around East Java for 6 months. The respondents in this study comprised 500 novice voters from designated provinces, with 100 samples from each. This quantitative research instrument involved verbal aggression, positive thinking, and positive communication as instruments analyzed and measured according to compatible measuring instruments. The study results indicated that teenagers who make the most of logic and common sense in thinking are not susceptible, especially to things that don't make sense. Logic teenagers prefer to ignore bad thoughts. Consequently, they hold a high sense of empathy once communicating, are calm, and tough to be emotionally provoked. Keyword: Polite behavior design; positive thinking; positive behavior; verbal aggressiveness; novice voter.

Abstract

Background: The increasingly advanced industrial development increases the need for labor, but the intention to quit remains a significant challenge because it can harm companies through recruitment costs and the loss of high-quality human resources. This issue is particularly relevant for female workers who often face challenges balancing professional roles with family responsibilities. Objective:  This study aims to determine the relationship between work-family conflict and work engagement with intention to quit among working women in East Java. Method: This study used a quantitative correlational design with a sample of 149 female workers obtained through simple random sampling. Data were collected using scales adapted from the Work-Family Conflict scale, the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES), and the Intention to Quit Scale, then analyzed using multiple regression analysis. Results:  The results showed that work-family conflict and work engagement together were significantly correlated with intention to quit (F = 7.758; p < 0.01). However, individually, work-family conflict did not correlate with intention to quit (p = 0.290), while work engagement showed a significant correlation with intention to quit (p = 0.001). Conclusion: It is concluded that work engagement is a more dominant factor influencing the intention to quit among female workers compared to work-family conflict, providing an effective contribution of 11.89%.

Abstract

Background: The work environment becomes more complex due to globalization and cross-cultural performance demands. A multinational manufacturing company in East Java faces significant challenges in sustaining employee work engagement. Objective: This study aims to understand how employees in a multinational company experience and construe resilience in sustaining their work engagement. The research adopts Coulson’s (2006) resilience framework. Method: This qualitative study employed an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), involving 4 participants. Data were analyzed using IPA, with credibility ensured through triangulation, member checking, and peer debriefing. Results: Employees’ resilience in sustaining work engagement within a multinational company context is dynamic, from yielding to thriving. Engagement is initially minimal due to emotional strain, becomes more stable during recovery, and ultimately strengthens when work-related pressure is reinterpreted as a catalyst for continuous growth. Conclusion: Employee resilience is a dynamic and gradual process that shapes the sustainability of work engagement through adaptation to global pressures. This study highlights resilience as a regulatory mechanism and recommends emotional regulation training, coaching interventions, and the development of organizational psychological safety.

Abstract

Migrant students face academic demands and complex social dynamics that may increase academic stress and influence eating behavior. Emotional eating refers to food consumption driven by negative emotional states, such as stress and anxiety, rather than physiological needs. This study aimed to examine the relationship between academic stress and social support with emotional eating among migrant students. This research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The participants consisted of 200 migrant students selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instruments included an Emotional Eating scale adapted from the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ), an academic stress scale based on Lazarus and Folkman's theory (1984), and a social support scale adapted from the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). Data were analyzed using multiple regression with IBM SPSS 16.0. The results revealed a highly significant positive simultaneous relationship between academic stress and social support with emotional eating (F = 21.212; p < 0.01; R² = 0.177). Partially, academic stress showed a highly significant positive relationship with emotional eating (t = 4.748; p < 0.01; β = 0.308), and social support also demonstrated a highly significant positive relationship with emotional eating (t = 4.883; p < 0.01; β = 0.317). These findings indicate that in the context of Indonesian migrant students, social support does not always function as a protective factor but may facilitate emotional eating through social eating activities embedded in students' social culture.
