Abstract

The research aimed to analyze the competitiveness of the crude palm oil (CPO) production and formulating the improvement strategy of the International market competitiveness of the CPO in Dumai. The research was conducted in Dumai, Riau Province. The Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM) was conducted to anlyzed the competitiveness of the CPO production. The research result shows that the CPO production in Dumai was internationally competitive, it was indicated by the Domestic Ratio Cost (DRC), and it was 0.30. It has financial competitiveness also with the Private Cost Ratio of 0.12. The CPO production was gained from the combination impact of policy transfer from both tradable input and output, with the effective protection coefficient (EPC) value of 0.85. This means that government policy is not able to provide greater added value or protection by providing incentives. CPO prices do not provide real benefits to producers of CPO or palm oil farmers to produce. In addition, the profitability coefficient (PC) value was 1.07. It indicated that the financial profit was higher, it was 1.07 times higher than the social profit. Furthermore, the subsidy ratio to producers (SRP) which was the measurement from the combination of all transfer effects indicated the value of 0.05, which means divergency between the financial and social profit approximately around 5% from the gross profit. According to the PCR score which was smaller than DRC, it could be inferred that the palm oil plantation business in Dumai City is actually still in need of the government intervention to support of the International market competitiveness of the CPO.

Abstract

Mostly Indonesian people depend their life on agricultural sector. Vegetable is one ofagriculture comodity which can give big contribution to economics development if itmanaged optimally. The productivity of vegetable influenced by natural factor (climate, soil, etc), fertilizer, pestiside, capital, and human resource. This research is aimed atidentifying the influence of production factor to mustard production and to analyze theallocation efficiency of the production factor usage in mustard farm using the purposivesampling method with 40 mustard farmer in Maharatu village, Marpoyan Damaisubdistrict. The estimated result with Cobb-Douglas production function indicated that theproduction of mustard farm in Maharatu village were influenced by seed, organic fertilizer, urea, NPK, pestisde, and labour in level 99%. The NPM/Px value for seed and urea is ≥ 1,it means the usage both of that factors can be increased. The value of NPM/Px for NPK,pestiside and labour usage is not important to reach economic efficiency condition and getthe maximum benefit.Keyword: mustard, production factor, cobb-douglas, economic efficiency

Abstract

In general, the present research was aimed to investigate how far was the targetachievement and productivity of Riau Prosperous Food Operation in Kampar Regency. The specific objectives were to analyze factors affecting the rice production level andfactors affecting the rice efficiency and allocation level in Kampar Regency. To achievethe objectives, the descriptive analysis, stochastic frontier production functionalanalysis, maximum likelihood estimate (MLE) referred from Cobb=Douglas productionfunction were used. The main results show that the factors affecting the rice productionof Riau Prosperous Food Operations Program were labors, seeds used, the amount ofUrea fertilizer, the amount of SP-36 fertilizer and liquid organic fertilizer.Whereas fornon Riau Prosperous Food Operations, the factors were the labors, the seeds used andthe amount of Urea fertilizer. Allocation for the Non Riau Prosperous Food Operationsprogram receivers was more efficient than those of Riau Prosperous Food Operations.Whereas, the economic efficiency was in contrast to the allocative efficiency. The RiauProsperous Food Operations was more efficient than Non Riau Prosperous FoodOperations. The main problem in the Riau Prosperous Food Operations program wasthe community low interest to cultivate crops, especially local community. RiauProsperous Food Operations prioritizing financial and physical aids were less effectiveto encourage the community in Kampar to cultivate the crops, especially rice, in a longrun. In other words, the programs should prioritize psychological aspects (motivation)of the community about the importance of the food to support the community socio-economic condition.Key words: Riau Prosperous Food Operations, productivity increase, efficiency

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to identify : 1) impact of production factors, (plantation area, fertilizer, pesticide, number of trees, and labor) on production of coconut nucleus estate, 2)return to scale of coconut nucleus estate, 3) efficiency of production factors used, and 4)farmers’ problems in managing business. This research was conducted in Pulau BurungRegency, Indragiri Hilir District, the only Nucleus Estate of hybrid coconut tree program inIndonesia. Primary data were collected from 90 respondents. Results showed that productionfactors of fertilizer and labor significantly affected production of coconut trees withdetermination coefficient of 79,3 %. Each of these factors influenced the production at differentrate. Total coefficient of production elasticities was 1.307, indicated that production process wasin the area of increasing to scale. However, because marginal product value were 0,081 forfertilizer and 0,193 for labor, further increase of production factor use is not economicallyfeasible. This is due to coconut price which is much less than market price. The farmers’problems are lack of capital to support production, high prices of inputs while coconut price islow. The research recommended that government increases support in term of input subsidies, community development and partnership, farmer credit scheme with low interest, and review ofcurrent predetermined and regulated price of fresh coconut.
