Abstract

The agricultural sector in Indonesia faces serious challenges regarding the low interest and participation of the younger generation. This study aims to conduct a comprehensive systematic literature review to identify the key determinants or factors influencing farming motivation among Indonesian youth. This qualitative research employed a systematic and structured literature review approach by conducting an in-depth search through reputable journal databases. The review findings reveal negative perceptions of farming as a profession, low income and welfare among farmers, and inadequate infrastructure and institutional support are significant barriers to attracting youth interest. Thematic analysis identified 16 key factors motivating Indonesian youth to engage in farming: government support, creativity, family support, technology, social environment, mindset, training, extension services, digital communication, digital education, environmental awareness, formal education, cosmopolitanism, infrastructure availability, adoption and innovation, and community involvement. The policy implications emphasize strengthening technology-based training programs and financial incentives to address these challenges.

Abstract

Tourism enterprises in Bali operate in a highly competitive and volatile environment that demands coordinated management across human resource, marketing, and financial functions (Sanjaya et al., 2024; Provincial Government of Bali, 2023). This study examines the effect of integrated human resource management (HRM), marketing management, and financial management practices on perceived business performance among tourism enterprises in Bali. A quantitative survey was conducted with employees and middle managers working in hotels and travel-related businesses across major tourism areas, and data were analyzed using multiple regression. The results show that HRM and marketing practices have strong positive and significant effects on perceived business performance, while financial management practices also contribute positively but with a smaller effect size. The study offers novelty by empirically testing a multidisciplinary model that combines HR, marketing, and financial practices in one framework within the Bali tourism context, and it provides practical implications for managers and policymakers to enhance cross-functional alignment in the sector (Ganie & Dar, 2020; Hermawati, 2024).

Abstract

The rise of hybrid work in post-pandemic Bali—driven by digital transformation in tourism, finance, and creative industries—has intensified demands for managers who can navigate both technological and interpersonal complexities. While emotional intelligence (EI) and digital literacy (DL) are recognized individually, their combined role across management subdomains remains underexplored, particularly in island economies with distinct socio-cultural dynamics. This study addresses this gap by examining how the synergy between EI and DL enhances managerial effectiveness among professionals in Bali across five management fields: Financial Management, Marketing Management, Human Resource Management, Office Management, and Tourism and Secretarial Business Management. Using a mixed-methods approach with data from 312 managers employed in Balinese organizations—including hotels, SMEs, financial cooperatives, and private educational institutions—we find that integrated EI–DL capabilities significantly predict adaptive leadership, team cohesion, and service innovation. Qualitative insights reveal context-specific practices such as “digital gotong royong” (collaborative digital workflows) and empathetic virtual client handling rooted in Balinese values of harmony (Tri Hita Karana). The study proposes a culturally attuned, multidisciplinary management framework with implications for leadership development in island and emerging economies.
