Abstract

This study examines metaphorical adjectives describing humans in Javanese. The metaphorical adjective is literally used to describe nouns other than humans but figuratively used to describe humans. This study aims to describe metaphorical adjectives used to characterize humans figuratively based on their meaning type. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. The data in this study are adjectives used to describe humans in Javanese metaphorically. The data corpus is taken from written and oral sources. The written sources are taken from the Dictionary of Baoesastra Djawa written by Poerwadarminta dan Javanese Dictionary written by the Language Center Team of Yogyakarta and a Javanese short story from the anthology of Javanese literature short story 2007 Kidung Megatruh (22 short stories) and short story of Yogyakarta Javanese in 2000-2010 (87 short stories). Data analysis techniques are inductive, with identification and classification techniques following research objectives. Based on the result, 43 adjectives are used to describe humans with metaphorical meanings. The adjectives are divided into six types: adjectives of positive character marker, negative character marker, positive mental condition marker, negative mental condition marker, positive physical condition marker, and negative physical condition marker. The use of metaphorical adjectives explaining humans in Javanese shows that the creativity of Javanese linguists is good at utilizing existing lexicons to express ideas by distorting their meaning without creating a new lexicon.

Abstract

This research aims at exploring the linguistic politeness values in Javanese speech levels. Javanese is a unique language since it has a speech level. It is a linguistic system which regulates how Javanese is used in daily communication. Meanwhile, linguistic politeness is the foundation in improvement of a person’s character to betterment. Politeness values in Javanese speech level teach us in-depth human values. Recently, linguistic politeness started to decline. This also indicates a change in Javanese youths’ politeness values. Therefore, it is very important to study the exploration of linguistic politeness values in Javanese speech level. This article employs a qualitative approach and applies a descriptive method. The data are collected using listening method with tapping technique and listening while speaking advanced technique. In addition, the researcher also employs speaking technique. Data collection with speaking method means conversation between the researcher and informant. The data are analyzed by employing proportionate pragmatic method with hearer as the determinant. This proportionate pragmatic method aims at describing linguistic politeness in interaction using correct Javanese speech level between speaker and hearer in Yogyakarata and Purwokerto.

Abstract

Penelitian ini akan membahas analisis teks, analisis praktik wacana, dan analisis praktik sosiokultural dalam pemberitaan Kompas.com mengenai penghapusan mural “Jokowi 404: Not Found” sehingga dapat diketahui bagaimana tindakan dan tokoh-tokoh yang terlibat ditampilkan dalam teks berita tersebut. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Data dalam penelitian adalah teks berita yang dirilis oleh Kompas.com pada Agustus 2021. Analisis data menggunakan analisis wacana kritis model Norman Fairclough. Hasil analisis teks menunjukkan bahwa Kompas.com memanfaatkan bahasa untuk memberi pencitraan negatif kepada aparat kepolisian, TNI, dan pemerintah. Analisis praktik wacana menunjukkan bahwa Kompas.com cenderung menampilkan penilaian dan tanggapan dari pihak-pihak yang kontra terhadap peristiwa tersebut sehingga menggiring pembaca pada opini yang negatif. Analisis praktik sosiokultural memperlihatkan bahwa Kompas.com menunjukkan eksistesinya sebagai media yang cepat dan tanggap dalam menginformasikan peristiwa yang bersifat aktual dan kontroversial.

Abstract

Pengabdian ini bertujuan meningkatkan kemampuan siswa sekolah dasar dalam memahami dan menggunakan undha-usuk bahasa Jawa secara tepat melalui media komik berbahasa Jawa. Latar belakang kegiatan adalah rendahnya penguasaan tingkat tutur bahasa Jawa akibat dominasi bahasa Indonesia dan metode pengajaran yang monoton. Kegiatan dilakukan selama dua tahun: tahun pertama difokuskan pada pelatihan guru dan pengembangan komik, sedangkan tahun kedua pada implementasi di kelas dan evaluasi. Pendekatan partisipatif berbasis riset melibatkan guru dalam seluruh proses. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa media komik meningkatkan antusiasme siswa dan memudahkan pemahaman ragam krama lugu dan krama inggil. Guru juga menilai pembelajaran menjadi lebih efektif dan menyenangkan. Komik yang telah dikembangkan dibukukan sebagai modul pembelajaran dan didistribusikan ke sekolah mitra dan disarankan agar komik bahasa Jawa dijadikan alternatif media pembelajaran bahasa daerah, dan lembaga terkait turut mendukung pelatihan serta pengembangan bahan ajar berbasis kearifan lokal. This community service aims to improve the ability of elementary school students to comprehend and speak Javanese undha-usuk appropriately through Javanese comic media. The background of the activity is the low level of Javanese language mastery due to the dominance of Indonesian and monotonous teaching methods. The activity was carried out in two years. The first year focused on teacher training and comic development and the second year was on classroom implementation and evaluation. The participatory research-based approach involved teachers in every step of the process. The results showed that comic increases student enthusiasm and provides understanding of the various krama lugu and krama inggil - the higher level of Javanese language. Teachers also considered that learning process become more effective and enjoyable. The comics that have been developed are published as learning modules and distributed to participated schools. It is recommended that Javanese comics be utilized as an alternative medium for learning regional languages, and related institutions also support the training and development of teaching materials based on local wisdom.
