Abstract

Since the implementation of the lockdown (PSBB) policy in Indonesia, the student learning process in all levels of education in Indonesia have been carried out online. This has also been the case at the Business and Economic Faculty of Asia Institute, Malang. All of the students had to study from home (SFH) and interact with lecturers using online media such as Google Classroom, WhatsApp Group, Google Meet, Zoom and even application such as Discord using a laptop or a smartphone. Online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic became the only option to continue learning. Interestingly, online learning asserts high student independence. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of online learning on students’ motivation and (learning) independence in the Faculty of Business and Economics of Asia Institute of Technology and Business, Malang. A total of 701 students were selected as respondents using simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through 5-point Likert scale questionnaires, then processed and analyzed using SEM-PLS analysis with SmartPLS 3.3.2 software. The results showed that both motivation and learning facilities were positively and significantly effected on student learning independence. The higher the motivation and the more complete, effective, and quality learning facilities, the higher the student's learning independence is. The main obstacle in the learning process is the lack of internet connection/ data signals in several areas where students live, which makes online lectures laggard and less attractive. It is suggested for further research to investigate and analyze the mediating role of motivation in the relationship between learning facilities and student learning independence.DOI: https://dx.doi.org/10.17977/UM014v14i12021p25

Abstract

Mathematics and English can collaborate so that the students in practice on computers are also familiar with mathematical terms in English. This will help the ability of informatics students to understand other materials in the informatics study program. The fact that occurs in learning mathematics and English at Institut Asia campus is that students are still less enthusiastic in pursuing these subjects so that the majority of students have not achieved optimal learning outcomes. In collaborating the English and Math course in learning, the instructional needs learning tools that can help. One of the learning tools needed is teaching materials such as worksheets. The worksheet that will be developed uses a Problem Based Learning approach. The development model adopted is Plomp’s development model which consists of 3 stages, namely preliminary research, prototyping, and assessment phase. The developed math worksheets will meet the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Based on the validation test, the score obtained shows that the mathematics worksheet is in the proper category. While the results of the effectiveness test and the results of student responses showed a score of 80.35 and 76.76 or in the effective category and quite feasible.

Abstract

Studies related to risk appetite, which plays an important role in risk management in the creative economy sector, still need to be made available, so relating it with dynamic capabilities and competitive advantage is the main novelty of the research. The research aimed to understand the risk appetite of the creative Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in East Java, Indonesia, and analyze the impact of the risk appetite on their dynamic capabilities and competitive advantages. Primary data was obtained through a quantitative research method with a Likert-sized online questionnaire instrument and distributed to 300 creative industries in East Java, with the unit of analysis being the creative business owner. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Square - Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) weight analysis with SmartPLS version 4 software. After passing the external test and inner model, hypothesis testing was carried out by reviewing the t-statistics and p-values. The analysis results provide a surprise, showing that not all types of risk appetite significantly impact dynamic capabilities and competitive advantage. Avoiding the discovery of detrimental risks to dynamic capabilities and competitive advantage emphasizes that in this era, every creative SME must face risks. Avoiding risks makes the business unable to face dynamic changes in conditions and will not have a competitive advantage. However, risk and revenue sharing do not significantly impact competitive advantage. It has a strong impact through dynamic capabilities. Creative SMEs can choose to transfer risks or reduce them. Future research can examine different risk appetites for creative economy in each subsector.

Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of leadership patterns, incentive provisions, and the work environment on employee performance at Institut Asia Malang. A supportive work environment both socially and psychologically plays a vital role in fostering employee productivity. Moreover, effective leadership is instrumental in boosting motivation and loyalty among staff. A quantitative approach with descriptive and causal designs was adopted in this research, using random sampling to gather data from both academic and administrative employees. Multiple linear regression analysis was then employed to examine the relationships between these variables. The findings indicate that leadership patterns and the work environment have a significant effect on employee performance, with p-values of 0.045 and 0.035 respectively (p < 0.05). In contrast, incentive provision does not demonstrate a statistically significant impact (p = 0.541). Consequently, focusing on leadership development and creating an optimal work environment proves more effective in enhancing employee performance at Institut Asia Malang than relying on incentives alone.
