Abstract

The coefficients of electrooptics for water and refinery water in RF field have been determined. The RF frequency range used in the research is 6,04 MHz to 11 MHz. Two different light beam (532 nm and 632,8 nm) have been used to measure the change of light polarization after transmitted the samples. The result indicates that the linear and quadratic electro optic coefficients appear in the range of frequency-field. The refinery water has greater value of linear electro optic coefficient than aquades. It is also obtained that the greatest change of polarization angle take place when using the green laser in the field’s position of upright against the RF frequency field and polarization angle of 900.   Keywords: RF field, polarization angle, linear electro optic coefficient.

Abstract

The interaction between external magnetic field modulated at 50-60 Hz and the dipoles of the sample induced by laser light modulated at 50-100 Hz has been studied. The magnetic field has the maximum value of 170 mT produced by a coil of 810 in turns. The source of light of 632,8 nm and 532 nm is modulated at the resonance value between 30 Hz and 100 Hz. The optical characteristic behavior studied in this research is the change of polarization E-direction of laser light in the aquades samples against the influence of external magnetic field. The result of experiment indicates that the change of laser polarization angle is linearly proportional with the increaseasing of modulated frequency and external magnetic field in sample materials. It is shown that the change of glycerine concentration changes also linearly direction of polarization. The verdet constants measured in the experiment for 632 nm and for 532 nm equal to (0,026 ± 0,005) V (min/g-cm) and (0,025 ± 0,003) V (min/g-cm), respectively. Abstract

In this study, the phenomena of natural polarization and electrooptics effect have been compared as alternative methods for evaluation of vegetable oil quality. The sample used in the experiment was various vegetable oils. The change of light polarization was measured using a pair of polarizer for natural polarization and in case of electrooptics with addition of induced external electric field through DC high voltage. The result has shown that both methods are able to indicate the level of various oil quality. The natural polarization is very useful for preliminary test of oil quality. In the other hand, the electrooptics has a good prospect as single physical indicator for vegetable oil quality.

Abstract

In this paper we present a new development of optical properties on colloidal silver solutions using electro-optics effect. Samples of silver nanoparticles (NPP) were obtained by ablation method and then diluted in water to obtain various concentrations. To obtain optical characteristics of colloidal silver solutions through the electro-optical effect, the changes in the polarization of light was measured as the sample was applied by high external potential difference. The light source used was laser pointer with  = 650 nm. The results show that the colloidal silver solution shows non-linear active optical properties with increasing concentration and at a concentration of 4.6 ppm maximum natural polarization occurs. In the case of electro-optics, a voltage increase results in electro-optical contributions which correspond to the effects of non-linear polarization due to high electric fields. However, at 8 kV the maximum polarization appears also at a concentration of 4.6 ppm, which is the same as the natural polarization at that concentration. The study of colloidal silver solutions is very interesting to be further developed by electro-optical methods, because challenges and unanswered phenomena can contribute or alternative perspectives in understanding the interaction of light with matter, especially colloidal silver solutions, and the like.

Abstract

In this paper, we demonstrated new electro-optics characteristics of silver nanoparticle solution (NPP) using  linear  light  polarization.  The  electro-optical  properties  of  NPP  solution  were  obtained  by measuring changes in the polarization of light in the transverse electromagnetic (TEM) mode, in which the  source  light  is  made  linearly  polarized  at  0˚  and  90˚to  the  axis  of  polarizer.  NPP  samples  were obtained by laser ablation method and electro-optical properties were obtained through high voltage DC 0-9 kV with light source from green laser pointer (532 nm). The results showed that colloidal silver solution  in water  at  an angle  mode  of  0˚,  strongly  suspected  to  show  active  Plasmon  resonance at a concentration area of 3-5 ppm, with a peak of polarization at a concentration of 4.6 ppm. In the 90˚ mode, it is assumed that the colloidal silver solution is resonant inactive, the change in polarization is caused  only  by  a  combination  of  natural  polarization  and  electro-optical  polarization.  The  study  of changes in the polarization of light through electro-optical effects on silver solutions is very interesting to  be developed  further  using other  particles,  because  it  can provide  a  more  comprehensive  answer. This method also contributes science to the new  perspective of understanding the interaction of light with matter, especially colloidal silver solutions, and the like.Keywords: Light polarization, electro-optics effect, colloidal silver solution

Abstract

Identifikasi kandungan zat makro pada obat-obatan kimia sangat diperlukan untuk tujuan perlindungan kesehatan masyarakat. Dalam penelitian ini, identifikasi magnesium (Mg) dalam produk farmasi dilakukan menggunakan LIPS (Laser-Induced Plasma Spectroscopy). Laser yang digunakan pada penelitian adalah laser Nd: YAG dan laser CO2. sampel yang digunakan adalah tablet suplemen. Sinar laser diarahkan dan difokuskan oleh lensa cembung pada sampel. Berkas plasma diinduksikan pada permukaan sampel. Spectrum emisi yang tajam dan berintensitas tinggi yang terdeteksi menggunakan laser Nd:YAG menunjukkan adanya kandungan Kalsium (Ca) dan Magnesium (Mg) pada sampel. Hasil yang diperoleh kemudian dibandingan dengan pengujian sampel menggunakan laser CO2. Diperoleh hasil intensitas spectrum Mg jauh lebih tinggi menggunakan laser CO2.

Abstract

This study was conducted to search for "fingerprint" of the existence of lard in vegetable  oil contaminated by lard as an evaluation of the halal of cooking oil by using transmission polarization method. The sample used was palm oil that has been mixed with chicken oil and lard. The light source used was green laser with wavelenght 532 nm. Measurement was conducted based on change of polarization transmission angle, with addition of external electric field produced by two parallel plates connected to 0-6kV DC voltage. The result shows that contaminated palm oil has greater polarization angle changes than pure palm oil. And  palm oil that has been contamined by lard has the greatest polarization angle than a pure palm oil and palm oil contaminated by chicken oil. Transmisson polarization method can be used to evaluate halal of cooking oil.Keywords: Polarization, Electrooptics,Cooking oil, Halal

Abstract

The measurement of surface roughness level of matter was done by ultrasonik wave Time-of-Flight methode. The device can be applied to several equirement, such as roughness detection for textile product, sandpaper,asbestos, ceramics, steel and metal industry, etc. The measurement is needed for quality product improvement.  The measurement performed by scanning object which rotated 200 times with stepper motor using ultrasonic transduser. The transduser transmit pulse to object trough transmitter and receiver pulse. The result of scanning displayed in Cathode Ray Osciloscop (CRO) then it used to estimating ToF (Time-of-Flight) by calculating the gap between transmitter pulse and receiver pulse. The objects which measured are tree trunk, concrete A, and concrete B. The reason of selecting the test object is for minimize the atenuation so it can increase the reflection. The result of measurement for average surface roughness of objects are: tree trunk (Ra is minimum 8%, and Ra is maximum 17%), concrete A (Ra is minimum 10%, and Ra is maximum 16%), and concrete B (Ra is minimum 8%, and Ra is maximum 17%).Keywords: surface Roughness, ultrasonic wave, Time-of-Flight

Abstract

Pada tulisan ini telah dilakukan pengukuran langsung perubahan polarisasi fluoresens pada panjang gelombang datang 532 nm untuk evaluasi mutu minyak goreng berdasarkan tingkat kadaluwarsanya. Sampel yang digunakan adalah minyak zaitun dan sawit dengan berbagai tanggal kadaluwarsa. Sudut pengamatan cahaya hambur pada arah tegak lurus terhadap cahaya datang. Dari hasil penelitian didapat bahwa perubahan polarisasi akibat fluoresens tidak linier terhadap polarisasi cahaya datang, namun polarisasi terbesar diperoleh saat = 0. Dengan sudut = 0 diperoleh bahwa, baik untuk minyak zaitun maupun sawit, perubahan polarisasi fluoresens meningkat seiring dengan semakin kadaluwarsanya minyak. Metode polarisasi fluoresens ini identik dengan polarisasi transmisi dan dapat digunakan sebagai uji awal mutu minyak goreng layak pakai atau kadaluwarsa.

Abstract

Evaluation of quality of cooking oil using integrated polarizer based on fluorescence polarization method has been carried out. Integrated polarizer used a green laser with a wavelength of 532 ± 10 nm. Measurements were made by observing changes in fluorescence polarization angles that occurs when without an external electric field and with the provision of an external electric field produced from two copper plates given a voltage of 0-6 kV. The samples used were new cooking oil and expired cooking oil, palm cooking oil that has been contaminated by chicken oil and lard. The test results show that the change in polarization angle on cooking oil expires is greater than the new cooking oil, as well as changes in the polarization angle in palm cooking oil that has been contaminated by lard is greater than pure palm cooking oil and palm cooking oil. This indicates that the saturated fatty acid content in lard is greater than that of pure palm cooking oil and chicken oil. With these results, the fluorescence polarization method is expected to be a method for evaluating halal cooking oil.
