Abstract

ABSTRACTDisaster incidents have been recently increased in Indonesia. Most of them can be categorized as a environmental/ecological disaster such as cyclone, floods, landslides, and other disaster caused by climate change. This article is on how to dealing with ecological disaster especially during pre-disaster period. The article argues that ecological disasters are mainly caused by human intervention to the nature mainly through industrial-related activities, such as production, consumption and other natural resource utilizations.  Based on this argument, ecological disaster is an inherent part of modernization (industrialization) and ecological disaster is consequense of modernization. In line with this perspective, environmental education have a strategic role in preventing and reducing ecological disasters. It is worth for the practices of environmental education to facilitate various learning process in the areas of  cognitive and conscience, attitude and behavior, and collective actions to establish a sensitive-disaster and friendly environmental behavior. hutan dikelompokkan oleh pelajar Indonesia, tetapi pelajar Jepang mengelompokkannya sebagai hutan dan gunung pada jarak jauh.

Abstract

Preliminary studies on cultural intermediaries focused on social classes that mediate the production and consumption of culture. Therefore, this study determined the importance of the cultural intermediaries of migrant worker university students who popularize the values of higher education for the working class. Habitus and replication of meaning were used as analytical tools, with an alternative perspective proposed on cultural intermediaries using an ethical approach. The results showed that the cultural intermediary based on ethical relationships produces a new individual involvement of marginalized groups. Meanwhile, community relations with a similar social context are strengthened, enabling individuals to combine their allegiances and continuously generate values to suit certain social situations.

Abstract

Asmat women have undergone a process of transformation due to contact with the agents present and changing the pattern of existing gender relations. This intersection has given birth to a new process of creation regarding women's space and identity. This paper will discuss the impact of the transformation of gender relations experienced by Asmat Women. The impact that occurs then needs to be seen in relation to the current context of the new conditions that occur in it, especially in the space of women's cultural identity which is now embedded and as if produced as a cultural identity for Asmat women, namely noken. Bourdieu's perspective is used to look at agents who fall into the scale of gender relations transformation, namely investors, traders, buyers and the many economic spaces that are also present in it. Noken as part of the results of the process of gender relations transformation occurred in Papua, especially in Asmat. The research method used is qualitative method of analysis The results of the study show that Asmat Tribe Women find themselves in the process of identity reconstruction that they begin to interpret with actions and efforts on the awareness they have. The transformation process that occurs due to the intervention of agents is seen as part of a change that they cannot control but can manage for the benefit they are trying to achieve as "key players" in gender relations both reproductive roles, productive roles and social roles, through the production of noken

Abstract

The article describes efforts to preserve local food culture. Local people previously consumed various local food, but now they tend to consume rice and wheat as staple food.  Food diversification policies and programs failed to encourage the people to reduce consumption of rice and wheat. As a consequence, availability of local food has reduced, and people tends to switch from consuming local food to rice and wheat-based food. In the context of domination of national (rice) and global (wheat) food culture, using Williams’s theory of culture, and based on case study method, the article delineates production, distribution and consumption of corn-based food in Pagerejo village, district of Wonosobo, province of Central Java. The local people of Pagerejo have preserved corn-based food culture as a residual culture. The corn-based food culture is a part of past food culture that has still lived and been practiced by the local people.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This article outlines the role of rural women in diversification of local foods in Indonesia, specifically cassava. Cassava is the third main staple food in Indonesia, after rice and corn. By referring to the concept of food security and food diversification, and using the case study method, this article describes and discusses rural women’s innovations and business initiatives in developing nutritious processed cassava products in Gunungkidul Regency. These products are available at various outlets and are accessible and affordable to the public. Rural women have become the main actors in the diversification of local foods while also playing an important role in creating food security that has become a strategic agenda in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study underscores the importance of conservation movements, which relies on local knowledge to sustain the environment and enhance community welfare, by examining the Resan Gunungkidul Community as a representative case from Indonesia’s Gunungsewu Karst Landscape. We using qualitative descriptive methods through multi-case approaches, and the data were collected through in-depth interviews and participatory observations with some communities in field. This study analyzes the KRG's educating strategies for common pool resource management with any local movements. The results of the study confirmed that KRG successfully developed a conservation model in the name “resan”. That conservation model through the use of a broad social network, the application of a common-pool resources (CPR) approach, and the horizontal leaders. The emergence of KRG does not only affect its core movement, but also significantly impacts the development of other communities. Even with limitations, such as a small scale of action, low member flexibility, limited segmentation, and minimal financial resources, KRG was able to maintain local conservation movements. Their educating innovations boosted biodiversity, improved pest monitoring, expanded conservation knowledge, and strengthened collaboration networks. This study highlights that multidisciplinary engagement and the application of similar models in other contexts are essential to strengthen the impact of community-based conservation in ecologically vulnerable areas.
