Abstract

This article discusses one of the important Islamic traditions in the coastal areas of Central Java, Indonesia, where the majority of Muslims receive moral teachings through the recitation of turāth from the local islamic clerics, known as Kiai. This form of Islamic tradition is represented by Pengajian Ahad Pagi in Semarang and Jamaah Muji Nabi (often abbreviated as Jamuna) in Demak Regency. Examining religious movements through a phenomenological approach, this study found that in delivering the religious materials both Pengajian Ahad Pagi and Jamaah Muji Nabi use the transmission method. Such an approach emphasizes the aspect of narration, in which the Kiai reads one of the turāth (classical Islamic books), interprets it word by word, and then explains it comprehensively. Besides, the educational style delivered by the Kiai in the two said turāth-based teachings emphasized the aspect of Sufism that involved sense. It stands to reason that the congregation feels motivated, both in terms of religious knowledge and morals, and is possibly not trapped in a binary mindset seeing religious issues in black and white as framed by the radical groups. The findings of this study indicate that Pengajian Ahad Pagi and Jamaah Muji Nabi found the continuity of their vision and initial idea in response to the culture and life of the surrounding community.

Abstract

Cosmopolitanism among migrant workers may present the result of interpretations between transnational mobility, class, and cultural intermediary. The purposes of this study describe the dynamics of travel and immigration, and higher education experiences that have let Indonesian migrant workers at work in any place both in and out of campus areas and how the transformational processes of the migrant worker from transnational into cosmopolitan. Applying the ethnographic method this research was carried out during 2018-2019, which took Indonesian migrant worker-students aged 20-35 years in South Korea as informants. This research found that the broader social, cultural, and individual agendas are one way of recognizing a new cosmopolitanism. There are two factors that influence the cosmopolitanism process of Indonesian migrant workers; first, the transnational migration process. Second, the process of cultural intermediation in universities. This study reveals significant differences in how Indonesian migrant workers respond to the possibilities and opportunities of transnational mobility, from developing the cultural acceptance skills needed in their life trajectories to building network relationships with other transnational actors. Higher education for migrant workers has introduced another form of work, namely cultural intermediation, which can be seen as a cosmopolitan process._________The original draft of this article has been presented on the International Conference on Language, Linguistics, and Literature (COLALITE) UNSOED, 2020.

Abstract

Abstract

The golden period is a term used to describe the importance of the first 1000 days of human life. Nutritional intake in children at this time becomes very important because malnutrition in this period will cause disturbances in child development. To prevent this risk, the intake of breast milk is necessary for babies at least in the first 6 months of life. However, there are many internal and external factors that can affect a baby not being able to receive it. One solution that commonly used to share breast milk amongst mothers. A mother can share breast milk directly through personal relations or through human milk bank agencies. The implication of the problem of sharing human milk in Muslim societies is the occurrence of kinship relationship between the child and his milk mother that change the status of mahram and the prohibition of marriage between breast milk children and biological children of the donor because the two children's status changed to breast milk siblings. Referring to these conditions, we designed an integrated information system prototype by integrating breast milk donor data obtained from human milk banks throughout Indonesia. Interoperability problems during data integration process are overcome by implementing a RESTful API as a web service. The output of this information system is the issuance of milk-kinship certificates given to donors and recipients as evidence of donors as well as become a token that there is a mahram bond between donors and recipients. A milk-kinship certificate can prevent marriage between milk-kinship siblings, especially in Muslim communities.

Abstract

Migrant Workers and Higher Education issues seem two different contradictory topics. Many research on migrant workers often associates them with pragmatical activities, the working class, and marginal groups. On the other hand, Higher Education (HE) is more often associated with idealistic spaces, middle classes, and academics environment. This paper presents the phenomenon of Indonesian migrant worker-students in South Korea. We found the increasing number of Indonesian migrant workers who pursue higher education through overseas Indonesian Open University (Universitas Terbuka) in Korea and ICT-based Korean local universities. We examine how migrant workers take advantage of the transformation of higher education. We try to answer whether higher education experienced democratization will reduce social inequality, or on the contrary, it will be trapped in an educational capitalization that sharpens the gap.

Abstract

The spread of the Covid-19 virus requires human interaction to be mediated by information and communication technology, including education. Educators must adapt to this change to become role models quickly. However, not all educators can use technology in online learning. For educators in the village who had never used information and communication technology for education, this adaptation process needed guidance in the acceleration, as a necessity of educators with ICT mastery capabilities in the information age and amid the pandemic situation. It takes a mentoring program for educators to improve their ability and competence on digital technology for learning management both luring and online. This program is intended for educators in MI Al-Hikmah Source of Simo Boyolali through a participatory approach. The training began by doing a pretest and continued FGD to map the potential and problems faced by the teacher. Based on the pretest and FGD,  we decided to conduct digital literacy training to improve educator competencies in managing online learning and luring.

Abstract

Based on the Digital Civility Index (DCI), Indonesian internet users have the lowest Digital Civilization Index in Southeast Asia. This phenomenon is evident from the rise of fake news or hoaxes, hate speech, cyberbullying, discrimination, and even fraud. Modernization has also made people's lifestyles more consumptive. Indonesia is also a religious country with the largest Muslim population in the world. Indonesia is ready to face the coming era of what is known as the era of society 5.0. This article analyzes the public perception of urban society in Semarang city of the importance of religious education in their lives and how it is used as an aspect of curriculum development in the era of society 5.0. This research is qualitative research using a method of phenomenology. Data was collected from interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that contextualization of the Islamic religious education curriculum is needed to suit the needs of society in the era of society 5.0. Islamic religious education teaches students the physical dimension (shari'a) and the spiritual dimension (essential) so that Islamic religious education can foster spirituality for urban Muslim communities as a basis for values in everyday behaviour. Islamic religious education must instil the importance of monotheism and ethics in utilizing technology. The era of society 5.0 makes humans the centre (anthropocentric), while Islamic religious education instils the value that God is the centre (theocentric).
