Abstract

This research was motivated by findings students’ mistakes in solving the problem-solving exercises. The purpose of this research is to diagnose students’ error type based on Newman’s procedure, students’ learning difficulties, and to know the effectiveness of Creative Problem Solving learning in solving students’ mistakes. The subjects of the research are taken from the 9 students of grade VIII D SMP Negeri 18 Semarang, respectively 3 students from the top group, middle group, and lower group. Learning process using problem-solving methods taught the students about the problem-solving skills. The results of this research are (1) the type of errors made by students in grade VIII D are comprehension errors (type C), transformation errors (type T), process skills errors (type P), dan encoding errors (type E); (2) the learning difficulties are mostly in determining the value of the length, width, or height of the real and the characteristics of learning difficulties are mostly in psychological; and (3) Creative Problem Solving learning effectively overcome the mistakes of research subjects based on Newman’s Procedure in solving the problem-solving exercises.

Abstract

The method used in this research is a mixed method with the research design that is explanatory sequential design. The result of this research are (1) Mathematical reasoning ability of grade VII students after being given learning by using PBL with mind mapping reached minimal completeness criteria; (2) the description of students' mathematical reasoning ability with independent field cognitive style were capable to present mathematical statements, propose conjecture, do mathematical manipulation, give reason to solution, and draw conclusion; and (3) the description of students' mathematical reasoning ability with field-dependent cognitive style were capable to present mathematical statements, yet incapable to propose conjecture, FDK students were less able to manipulate mathematics, while FDL students were incapable to perform mathematical manipulation, provide reason for solution, and draw conclusions.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of students’ mathematical creative thinking ability and to describe students’ mathematical creative thinking ability based on self-esteem. The method used in this study was mixed methods. The population in this study were seventh grade students in one of the junior high school in Semarang City. Through simple random sampling, the reseachers chose class VII A as an experimental class. Futhermore, 6 study subjects were interviewed consisted, covering 3 subjects from high self-esteem level and 3 subjects from low self-esteem level. The results of this study were: (1) student’s mathematical creative thinking ability increased with a gain index of 0,4 and was included in medium level; (2) students with the high self-esteem level were categorized in level 4 of TBKM; and (3) students with the low self-esteem level were grouped in level 0 TBKM.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Selective Problem Solving (SPS) model with ethnomatematics nuances on students' mathematical creative thinking abilities and describe mathematical creative thinking abilities based on students' characteristics of thinking style by applying Selective Problem Solving model with ethnomatematics nuances. The study population were VII grade students one of Junior High School in Magelang in the academic year of 2017/2018. The study sample were students of class VII B with Selective Problem Solving learning model with ethnomatematics nuances and students of class VII G with Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. They were chosen through cluster random sampling technique. Quantitative data were analyzed using normality, homogeneity, proportion test, independent sample t-test, and paired sample t-test. Qualitative data were analyzed using data validation, data transcript, reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results showed that students 'mathematical creative thinking ability in Selective Problem Solving learning model with ethnomatematics nuances has not yet reached classical completeness, students' mathematical creative thinking ability in Selective Problem Solving learning model with ethnomatematics nuances was better than students' mathematical creative thinking ability in Problem Based Learning (PBL) model, there were differences of students interest on local culture before and after learning in Selective Problem Solving learning model with ethnomatematics nuances, sequential concrete thinking type, namely subjects fulfilled the indicator of fluency and the indicator of flexibility and were enough in fulfilling the indicator of novelty, sequential abstract thinking type showed that subjects fulfilled the indicator of fluency and less fulfilled the indicator of flexibility and novelty, random abstract thinking type revealed that subjects less fulfilled the indicator of fluency and not fulfill the indicator of flexibility and novelty, and random concrete thinking type showed that subjects less fulfilled the indicator of fluency and flexibility and did not fulfill the indicator of novelty.

Abstract

One study in geometry is parabolic and paraboloid. Parabola is the locus of points equidistant from a given point and line. Expansion paraboloida on space n> 3 can be done by working through its analytical properties. Issues raised is how to find and formulate general equation of hyper-paraboloid, hyper-paraboloid tangent plane, and the polar plane of hyper-paraboloid. The purpose of this research is to formulate a general equation-paraboloida hyper, hyper-paraboloida tangent plane, and the polar plane of hyper-paraboloid. The method used is literature. In this study, the authors limit the issues discussed in the hyper-paraboloid centered at O and O’ with a symmetry axis parallel to the coordinate axes as well as the focal point lies on the axis symmetry. Results of this research is the general equation of hyper-paraboloid, hyper- paraboloid tangent plane, and the polar plane of hyper-paraboloid
