Abstract

The potential availability of forage feed is high, but in reality this potential has not been able to meet the requirement of feed both in sustainable quantity and quality. Silage made with the use of liquid fermentation additive (FA) can be a solution for those problems. The use of  different levels of FA and addition of Lactobacillus plantarum bacteria as well as formic acid were expected to improve the nutritive quality of napier grass silage. The first experiment was designed to measure the fermentative quality of napier grass silage. The treatments used were the levels of FA, L. plantarum, and formic acid supplementations. The experiment used a completely randomized design with a 3x2x2 factorial arrangement with 3 replications. The first factor was the level of liquid FA (5%, 7.5%, and 10%), and the second factor was the inoculation of L. plantarum (without and with inoculation of the L. plantarum), and the third factor was the addition of formic acid (without and with the addition of 0.15% formic acid). The second experiment was aimed to evaluate chemical and microbiological characteristics, and in vitro digestibility of selected napier grass silage. The results showed that napier grass silage from all treatments showed good qualities. There were interactions between FA, L. plantarum, and formic acid on DM content (P<0.05) and ammonia production (P<0.01). The use of FA showed an interaction (P<0.01) with the addition of L. plantarum and formic acid in Fleigh point. Ammonia production in rumen (P<0.01), total VFA (P<0.05), and in vitro digestibility (P<0.01) were significantly affected by the treatments. The optimal level of liquid FA was 7.5%. Based on the nutritive quality of silage, L. plantarum addition was as effective as control treatment to improve nutritive quality of napier grass silage through the increased  of fermentation characteristics i.e., low pH, high DM product, high fermentation product (VFA), and digestible on rumen. Formic acid reduced ammonia production during ensiling and fermentation in rumen, but it was less effective in inhibiting the fermentation process when it was combined with L. plantarum.

Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate physical properties and nutritive values of white rats (Rattus norvegicus) diets using different screen sizes of ground corn and different die sizes of the pellet. The experiment was divided into two trials. The first experiment aimed to find the effect of different particles of corn and die sizes of pellet on the physical properties and quality of white rat diet. The experiment consisted of 4 treatments and 4 replications namely, P1 (screen 3 mm and die 4 mm), P2 (screen 3 mm and die 16 mm), P3 (screen 5 mm and die 4 mm), and P4 (screen 5 mm and die 16 mm). The parameters measured were Pellet Durability Index (PDI), Specific density, Loose Bulk Density, and compacted Bulk Density of the pelleted diet. The second experiment was feeding trial to measure the performance of the white rats fed the pelleted diets. A total number of 20 white rats were used and divided into four treatments of the first experiment and replicated 5 times. The parameter measured were feed intake, final body weight, as well as the digestibility of dry matter and organic matter. Result of the experiments showed that the pellet durability index was significantly affected by the particle size of corn and the diameter of the pellet (P<0.01). In the feeding trial, the rats fed pelleted with the die of 16 mm resulted the highest feed intake (P<0.05). The P1 diet resulted the best physical pellet quality whereas P2 resulted the best performance of the experimental rats fed the pelleted diet. It can be concluded that to produce the best pelleted diet of rat, the ingredients should be ground with 3 mm screen size and the pellet was produced with the die diameter of 16 mm. Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat berupa pelatihan bertujuan untuk mengenalkan formulasi pakan berbahan local pada ternak kelinci. Hal ini sejalan dengan dua tujuan Sustainable Development Goals mengenai kepastian pendidikan berkualitas yang layak dan inklusif serta mendorong kesempatan belajar seumur hidup bagi semua orang termasuk peternak dan menggalakkan pertanian yang berkelanjutan karena menggunakan bahan pakan lokal. Kegiatan berlangsung melalui empat tahapan yaitu pemberian wawasan tentang bahan pakan kelinci dan proses pembuatan pakan, focus group discussion dan perancangan pakan kelinci. Sebanyak 30 peternak mengikuti pelatihan pemberian wawasan dan satu peternak potensial diajak melakukan FGD. Kegiatan ini berhasil meningkatkan kolaborasi peternak, pemrintah daerah dan akademisi untuk mengembangkan usaha peternakan kelinci masyarakat.

Abstract

Pelatihan Teknik budidaya dan pengolahan tanaman kelor sebagai pakan ternak merupakan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dosen IPB University yang bertujuan melatih petani tentang cara-cara budidaya tanaman kelor dan pengolahannya sebagai pakan ternak unggas. Kegiatan ini dilakasanakan pada bulan Mei sampai dengan November 2022 di Desa Cibatok 2 Kecamatan Cibungbulang Kabupaten Bogor. Tahapan kegiatan meliputi: Identifikasi kelompok sasaran, kegiatan ceramah dan diskusi untuk sosialisasi dan pengenalan tanaman kelor dan manfaatnya baik sebagai pakan ayam juga untuk pangan/tanaman herbal kesehatan. Selain penyampaian teori, para petani juga melakukan praktek menanam tanaman kelor dan Membuat ransum pakan ternak ayam dari bahan pakan lokal (singkong) yang diperkaya dengan daun kelor. Sebanyak 17 petani telah mengikuti kegiatan pelatihan dalam bentuk ceramah dan diskusi serta melakukan praktik penanaman pada lahan demplot seluas 200 m2 dan lahan pekarangan milik petani. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi kegiatan ini telah berhasil membentuk kelompok pembudidaya kelor dan peternak ayam sebagai kegiatan tambahan bagi petani sebagai mata pencaharian tambahan petani di Desa Cibatok 2.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine local feed ingredients such as sorghum, cassava and whole sago as the substitution of corn in the ration through the growth of broiler chickens. The growth observed variables were feed consumption, final body weight, body weight gain, feed conversion and mortality during growth from 1-5 week of age. The experimental design conducted was a completely randomized design with 4 treatments, namely commercial rations (P0), rations containing sorghum (P1), rations containing cassava (P2) and rations containing whole sago (P3). Each treatment consisted of 3 replicates in a high-density cage of 16-17 chickens m-2 for each replication. The total number of chickens used for the experiment were 200 chickens. The results showed that the mean final body weight and weight gain was significantly lower (p<0.01) than that of control treatment, whilst feed consumption was not significantly different. Growth of the chickens of P1, P2 and P3 treatments was not significantly different. Rations based on sorghum, cassava or whole sago as the 100% substitution of corn in broiler chickens could not facilitate the growth as well as broiler chickens in factory feeds. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesesuaian kualitas pakan ayam broiler dengan Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI) sebagai upaya untuk meningkatkan dan memastikan kualitas broiler. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk menjaga kualitas dan keamanan pakan yang tersedia di Indonesia. Penelitian ini berfokus pada kriteria SNI untuk pakan ayam broiler, khususnya SNI 8173-1:2022 untuk fase pra-starter, SNI 8173-2:2022 untuk fase starter, dan SNI 8173-3:2022 untuk fase finisher. Dengan menggunakan data sekunder dari pengujian pakan yang dilakukan di tiga laboratorium, penelitian ini mengkaji parameter-parameter termasuk kadar air, abu, lemak kasar, serat kasar, protein kasar, kalsium, fosfor, aflatoksin, lisin, dan metionin. Analisis kesesuaian parameter-parameter ini dengan standar SNI dilakukan berdasarkan wilayah produsen pakan dan laboratorium pengujian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata hasil analisis untuk setiap parameter uji sesuai dengan SNI. Namun, ada parameter uji dengan sampel yang tidak sesuai dengan SNI, yang mencakup proporsi tertinggi (10% dari total sampel). Parameter-parameter ini adalah metionin dan lisin. Ketika dikategorikan berdasarkan wilayah produsen, beberapa parameter uji menunjukkan tingkat ketidaksesuaian melebihi 10% dari total sampel dalam wilayah masing-masing. Secara khusus, parameter-parameter ini mencakup protein kasar asal finisher dari Sulawesi Selatan, lemak kasar pra-starter dari Lampung, serat kasar pra-starter dari Kalimantan, kalsium finisher dari Jawa Timur, aflatoksin starter dari Jawa Timur, lisin starter dari Sumatera Barat, dan metionin pra-starter dari Kalimantan. Selain itu, evaluasi berdasarkan laboratorium pengujian menunjukkan bahwa beberapa parameter uji tertentu memiliki tingkat ketidaksesuaian melebihi 10% dari total sampel laboratorium. Parameter-parameter ini mencakup kalsium finisher, lisin starter, dan metionin finisher.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate and analyze the effect of the level of protein content in feed on the superovulation response in cattle through a meta-analysis study. The meta-analysis study was performed with OpenMEE application and used scientific articles from international journals according to the topic of the study. The superovulation parameters used in this study were the number of corpus luteum, the number of collected embryos, the number of viable embryos, degenerated embryos, unfertilized embryos, and the proportion of viable embryos. The results of a meta-analysis of 37 research results in 20 scientific articles showed feed protein level had a significant effect on increasing the number of corpus luteum, collected embryos, viable embryos, and the proportion of viable embryos. Meanwhile, the feed protein level had no significant effect on degenerated embryos and unfertilized ovum. It could be concluded that an increase in feed protein content had a positive effect on several reproductive quality parameters. Key words: cow, embryo, feed, protein, reproduction, superovulation

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate separation method to reduce the shells of palm kernel cake (PKC) and to optimize the extrusion process to increase the nutrient utilization. The sieving process was a method of separating two materials that had different sizes, both solid and liquid materials. The extrusion process variables used in this study were extrusion temperature and moisture content of PKC as optimization variables in the response surface methodology (RSM). The RSM design was central composite design (CCD) with 13 treatments and analysed with Design Expert version 13. PKC was separated from its shell by filtering it at a size of ≤0.600 mm and continued the extrusion process for 13 treatments using temperatures starting from 72 to 128 °C and moisture content starting from 22 to 78%. The main variable response was crude protein (CP), crude fibre (CF), and ether extract (EE). Based on statistical analysis, it was found that temperature and moisture content had a significant effect (p<0.05) on the mathematical model of the relationship between the independent variables (temperature and moisture content) and the best CP, CF and EE responses. PKC extrudate had a bulk density value of 420 kg m-3 and a total solubility of 24.11%. The conclusion of this study was that the optimal extrusion treatment at BIS was using 91 °C and 42% moisture content to produce the best chemical and physical qualities. Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the supplementation of moringa flour (Moringa oleifera L.) on the performance of KUB chickens as well as the physical quality, vitamin A and cholesterol of the eggs. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD), with 4 treatments of moringa flour supplementation (0%, 5%, 10% and 15%) and 6 replications. The measured variables were performance, physical quality, egg vitamin A content and egg cholesterol content. The data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and further tested with Duncan's multiple range test. The rearing duration was 3 months, using a total of 96 24-week-old KUB chickens. The results showed that supplementation of moringa leaf flour up to 15% in feed had no significant effect on production performance or the vitamin A and cholesterol content of eggs, but it significantly increased the egg yolk color score. It can be concluded that the supplementation of 10% moringa leaf flour provides the lowest feed conversion and has higher income/income over feed cost values compared to the control. Abstract

As a corn substitute, cassamore (Cassava – Moringa Mix) is an innovative local feed ingredient based on cassava with a mixture of palm kernel meal, cassava leaf flour and moringa extract processed by extrusion that can destroy antinutrients, improve nutrient content and digestibility. This study aimed to optimize the temperature and water content of the hydrothermal extrusion process, as well as to analyze the effect of extrusion on the physical and chemical characteristics of Cassamore as a corn substitution. The method used is response surface methodology in the statistical application of design expert 13 with extrusion temperature factors of 100, 110, 120 (oC) and moisture content of 16, 18, 20 (%). Further research was carried out for the physical and chemical properties of Cassamore using a complete randomized design (CRD). The results showed that the water absorption index value is significant (p<0.05) with the optimal value located at 100 °C and 20% moisture content, while the water solubility index value is not significant. The values of bulk density, tapped density, and angle of repose on Cassamore after being extruded were smaller than those before being extruded. The bulk density and tapped density values for Cassamore were below corn, while Cassamore's angle of respose was above the corn. Cassamore's specific gravity value after extruding under corn. Chemical properties (Ash, crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber) decreased after extrusion, but NFE increased after extrusion. It is concluded that Cassamore has a potency to replace corn.
