Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of protease enzyme supplementation and NSP on feed containing I. Zollingeriana to improve performance and metabolic energy in quails. This study used 192 female quails with a Coturnix-coturnix japonica strain aged 42 days. The experimental design used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD), with four treatments and four replications, with treatments being R1 = Basal Feed, R2 = Feed containing 10% I. Zollingeriana, R3 = R1 + protease enzyme, and R4 = R1 + NSP enzyme. The parameters observed in this study were feed consumption, hen day, egg mass production, feed conversion, mortality, and metabolic energy. The results showed that feeding containing 10% of I. Zollingeriana was able to increase the consumption, decrease the egg mass production, increase feed convertion and reduce the nitrogen retention.  The addition of the NSP enzyme can increase quil performance which were fed containing 10% I. Zollingeriana. The use of NSP and protease enzymes can increase the retention value of quail ration containing I. Zollingeriana leaves.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential use of Noni (Morinda citrifolia L.) leaves as an antibacterial agent for Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium. Noni leaves are processed with four methods i.e., mealing, blending, juicing, and decocting. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The variables measured were phytochemical analysis and antibacterial activity through bacterial inhibitory test. Qualitative test was used for phytochemical analysis and quantitative analysis was used for antibacterial of noni leaves. The antibacterial activity of noni leaves with diffusion well method used 4 concentrations i.e., 2.5; 5; 7.5; and 10% and extracted by maceration with 4 solvents i.e., water, ethanol, ethyl acetate, and hexane. The results showed that the processing of Noni leaves produced various active compounds. The noni leaves meal produces a more active type of compound group compared to 3 other treatments. Antibacterial tests against Escherichia coli were not seen in all noni leaves processing, but were seen to positively inhibit Salmonella typhimurium in the extraction process of Noni leaves meal using ethanol and ethyl acetate solvents at 48 hours maceration. The conclusions of the results showed that noni leaves meal extract using ethanol and ethyl acetate macerated for 48 hours was able to inhibit Salmonella typhimurium bacteria.

Abstract

Fluctuating climatic and transportation conditions in Indonesia cause problems in the storage of feed ingredients. Estimating the shelf life of feed ingredients is very important to know in order to help the feed industry in the storage, availability and maintenance of the quality of the feed produced. The purpose of this study was to determine the shelf life of pollard and wheat bran at different storage temperatures based on the value of the peroxide number using the Arrhenius model. In determining shelf life, pollard and wheat bran were stored at 15, 35, and 45°C for 49 days. The parameter used in this research is the peroxide number. The results of this study were based on the calculation of the Arrhenius model in pollard based on the number of peroxides at a temperature of 15, 35 and 45 °C, the shelf life of which was 27.3 months, 22.2 months and 13.1 months, respectively. The shelf life of wheat bran is 25.1 months, 15.1 months and 14.8 months. The conclusion is that the temperature and storage time are directly proportional to the peroxide number. Meanwhile, temperature and storage time are inversely proportional to shelf life.

Abstract

This research was conducted to select, to identify LAB isolates and to investigate the effects of the LAB as probiotics candidate in the rumen fermentation. Nine isolates exhibited the potency as candidate probiotics for cattle. The experiment was arranged in randomized block design with ten treatments and three different times of in vitro as a block. The substrate consisted of 70% forage and 30% concentrate proportion. The substrate was incubated at 39oC using serum bottle of 100 ml capacity for fermentation. Approximately 0.75 g of substrates was put inside the serum bottle glass and filled with 73 ml of buffered rumen fluid and 2 ml of LAB inoculant. Gas production was measured every 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 24, 48 and 72 h of the incubation period. Gas production kinetic was estimated by the Ørskov’s equation. The LAB with the highest gas production, as probiotics candidate, were identified using partial 16S rDNA sequence. The results of this research indicated that nine LAB produced high gas production in the range of 193-198 ml compare to that of control (173 ml). The addition of LAB in rumen fermentation resulted in digestibility 65-75%, organic matter digestibility 51-73%, and 6.67-6.68 pH. Based on the molecular identification, 8 isolates are Lactobacillus plantarum and 1 of uncultured bacteria. The LAB strain 32 L. plantarum showed the best for a ruminant probiotic candidate based on the in vitro rumen fermentation characteristic.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of silica+ supplementation (Si) in different types of diet on performance, nutrient retention (energy, protein, fat), and the economic value of broiler diet. The treatment diets are 1. HN (high nutrient), 2. HN+Si, 3. LN (low nutrient), 4. LN+Si, 5. HNRB (high nutrient contained rice bran) and 6. HNRB+Si. A number of 1440 unsexed day old chicks (CP707 strains) were arranged in a completely randomized design consisted of 6 treatments and each treatment was replicated six times.  The results showed that silica+ supplementation in HNRB and LN diets did not affect the performance and nutrient retention. The HNRB diet produced low fat retention, high FCR during starter period, and lower body weight during starter and grower period (P<0.05). The LN diet resulted high FCR during starter period (P<0.05), however it had no effects on the body weight. Silica+ supplementation on HN diet decreased the FCR by 8.09% during the grower period (P<0.05). Besides, it increased the fat retention and true metabolizable energy corrected by nitrogen (TMEn) by 1.30% and 4.41%, respectively. In general, silica+ supplementation was applied on the high nutrient diet during the grower period (22 to 35 days of ages) was effective. HN+Si produced the highest economic value diet in terms of income over feed and chick cost (IOFCC) increasing by 11.07% and relative feed cost (RFC) decreasing by 4.16%.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Ration in pellet form could increased feed efficiency level compared to mesh in poultry. The objective of the research was to  evaluate Morinda citrifolia leaves in ducks ration on the pellet physical quality and rancidity level after storing. The treatments diet contained 18 % of crude protein and 3000 kkal kg-1 metabolizable energy.  Pelleting diet process used simple wood pellet without steam, pellet knife and coller. The experiment was factorial using completely randomized design. Factor A was the percentage of mengkudu leaves (0, 2.5, 5 and 7.5%). Factor B was the period of storage (0, 3 and 6 weeks). The data were analyzed by using analysis of varian (ANOVA) and Duncan Multiple Range test. The variables were moisture content, water activity, density, compact bulk density, bulk density, pellet durability, pellet durability index, angle of repose, particle size, peroxide value, and fat content. The result showed that supplementation of Morinda citrifolia leaf and storage period significantly (P<0.05) affected the water activity and moisture content. Supplementation 7.5% of Morinda citrifolia leaves reduced (P<0.05) pellet density. The average pellet density in 0% Morinda citrifolia and 7.5% Morinda citrifolia were 1.27 g mL-1 and 1.22 g mL-1 respectively. Storing ducks pellet up to 6 weeks decreased physical pellet quality as indicated by increasing moisture content, water activity and the peroxide value. Keywords : Morinda citrifolia, pellet diet, peroxide value, storage
