Abstract

Catfish is one of the freshwater fish whose demand is increasing every year, both in the form of fresh fish and processed foods. This increase in demand along with the ease of maintenance has made catfish a cultivated commodity that is widely eyed by fish farmers. One of the important aspects in fish farming is the provision of fish feed, although it is relatively easy, but feed management is needed to increase fish production targets. The fish feeding method mostly uses manual sowing on the surface of the pond. This method has weaknesses in terms of labor requirements and the time required if catfish farmers have many ponds, especially if the breeders forget the schedule for fish feeding. The method of implementing this community service consists of socializing activities, presenting material, directing the steps for making automatic fish feeding tools, tool making practices, tool testing and evaluation. The manufacture of this automatic fish feed tool generally consists of making the body of the tool and the assembly of the timer module components. This activity was attended by 20 people who are members of the SYSGA group in Sumbersari District, a community group engaged in catfish farming. The activity went smoothly, the participants seemed enthusiastic during the activity. Further monitoring is needed to determine the level of effectiveness and efficiency of catfish production by breeders after the use of automatic fish feed equipment.

Abstract

Puger is one of the areas in Jember Regency whose main commodity comes from the sea. Fishermen need means of transportation to support them in catching fish in the sea. Puger District is also famous for its beaches and is the largest fish producer in Jember Regency. Therefore, fishing boats needed that have good performance following the characteristics of Puger waters. Puger waters have a strong trend mark with high sea currents and waves. Jukung boats are ships that are often used by fishermen in Puger. However, the process of making Jukung boats still uses conventional methods, which rely on knowledge/experience from their ancestors. The basis for making Jukung ships is mostly still not the correct procedures such as designing main dimensions, designs, and others. The impact of this affects the level of optimization of the feasibility of fishing vessels. Based on this, further studies are needed to evaluate the stability of the Jukung. This evaluation expected to be a reference regarding the level of security and comfort of the Jukung boat for the safety of the fishermen. The method used in evaluating stability is using the Krylov method. Based on the test results obtained stability are positive. so that the ship has the ability to be able to return to the even keel position after a trim/heel.

Abstract

The shipping industry is one of the future industries that has a major role in development because it can grow other maritime sectors to create new economic growth. Based on this, a study of hull repair is needed to support related industries. Hull repair cannot be separated from the sandblasting and painting processes. Sandblasting and painting are modern methods that aim to protect the hull from damage that can affect the life of the ship. The advantage obtained when the sandblasting and painting process meets the standards is that the repair results are more optimal to minimize shipyard expanses. In this study, the sandblasting process has followed the standards both at each stage and the calculation of estimated material requirements on the flat bottom, vertical side underwater, and topside position. In the painting study, the flat bottom and vertical side underwater position met the minimum requirements for paint, while the top side had a shortfall compared to the calculation of the estimated requirement of 8.8 liters.

Abstract

Science is a system obtained through the scientific method of research. The application of scientific knowledge can be found in various fields such as agriculture, medicine, pharmacy, and technology. The development of scientific knowledge in various fields is the role of the academic community. Community service is one of the three main duties of higher education institutions. Community service activities are carried out by conducting visits to Jember Lor 01 Public Elementary School in order to enhance young generations' knowledge of science through primary schools. The method used in community service is practice experience, which is a learning process that provides practical experiences to facilitate students' understanding of the subject matter. The practices conducted include telekinetic and lava lamp experiments using easily accessible materials. The practices are done in groups and accompanied by one person from the community service team. Based on the enthusiasm of the participants, this activity has been very beneficial in increasing the interest in learning about science from an early age. The synchronization of this community service activity with the natural science subjects is necessary to help students understand the theoretical lessons taught by teachers.

Abstract

Kapal ikan merupakan kapal yang digunakan melakukan aktivitas penangkapan ikan, pengangkutan ikan, dan lain-lain. Kapal penangkap ikan di Puger memiliki ciri khas tersendiri yang mana memiliki bentuk lambung gemuk dan lebar. Hal ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan kapal dalam olah geraknya. Namun, akan berdampak pada besarnya resistance kapal. Sehingga diperlukan komponen sebagai peredam gerakan kapal tanpa membuat bentuk lambung kapal yang gemuk dan lebar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan kapal dalam kondisi perairan laut lepas terutama di Perairan Puger, sebagai landasan terkait uji karakteristik hidrodinamika pada kapal ikan di Perairan Puger dengan menambahkan komponen skeg guna meminimalisir terjadinya kecelakaan kapal oleng di masa yang akan datang. Obyek penelitian ini menggunakan model kapal yang sudah beroperasi dan kemudian dilakukan penggambaran ulang serta dimodifikasi dengan penambahan skeg yang selanjutnya dilakukan analisis hidrodinamika kapal diantaranya hambatan dan olah gerak kapal dengan menggunakan metode numerik. Sehingga diperoleh hasil hambatan dan olah gerak kapal dari pengembangan variasi lambung kapal ikan yang lebih baik 86-98% daripada tanpa menggunakan skeg. Penggunaan skeg terhadap karakteristik hambatan dan olah gerak kapal yang lebih baik yang sesuai dengan wilayah Perairan Puger.

Abstract

Biofouling often sticks to the ship's hull, even to the propeller parts and pipes that are submerged in water. The existence of this biofouling has an impact on the ship's performance, reducing it and requiring more fuel, which ultimately contributes significantly to increased costs. Microfouling is one of the stages of biofouling growth that appears in a matter of days to weeks with a size of up to 1 mm which can be characterized by the appearance of a slippery layer on the surface of the specimen. Until now, many antifouling paints, as a means of preventing the occurrence of biofouling, still contain TBT, which has serious side effects as a chemical pollutant. Pineapple peel is a waste that is often found in Indonesia and contains bromelain and tannin which are anti-bacterial. The appearance of bacteria is the first phase in the growth of biofouling which is usually called biofilm, so it is hoped that pineapple peel extract will be able to prevent the emergence of biofilm. To determine the effectiveness of pineapple peel extract, this experimental study was carried out. The method used was a Randomized Block Design on ASTM 36 steel plate which is a certified ship material with 3 variations and 1 control of specimen as follows, 3 specimens as controls, 3 specimens with a ratio of 30% pineapple peel extract, 3 specimens with a ratio of pineapple peel extract. 50%, and 3 specimens with a pineapple peel extract ratio of 70%. Immersion for 7 weeks was carried out at Boom Beach, Banyuwangi by calculating the DGR (Daily Growth Rate) once a week. The DGR results obtained were respectively 0.095 g/day at an extract ratio of 30%, 0.0727 g/day at an extract ratio of 50%, and 0.0730 g/day at an extract ratio of 70%.
