Abstract

Abstract

People's lifestyles encouraged them to devour the main dish in a short amount of time. It demonstrated the value of snack foods as a source of supplementary energy. To present an example of marketing agro-industry in some healthy snack foods for college student, it was necessary to understand consumer behaviors regarding sugar intake in snacking. The marketers need to understand the customer perceptions and behaviors towards nutritional content in snack foods to create healthy snack food. The aims of this study were: 1) to analyze the consumer perceptions and behaviors of nutritional content in snack food products; 2) to identify dominant factors which affect the consumption of snack food products. The study was conducted on 200 respondents of college students. Snack foods were commonly consumed by college students, who were classified as adolescents, in between substantial meals. Descriptive statistics and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) were performed. Consumer impressions on a preliminary assessment of the nutrition label, which includes sugar components, were determined using descriptive statistics. Furthermore, PCA was performed to identify the main consumer characteristics that affect snacking, allowing the impact of sugar content on snack food consumption. The results indicated that the consumers were concerned enough about eating nutritious meals. Consumers, on the other hand, rarely read nutrition labels. The "benefit" and "wants" factors were the most important elements affecting consumer snack food intake. The nutritious composition of snack foods, on the other hand, did not affect snack food consumption. The consumers were unconcerned about the sugar content in snack food.

Abstract

Manual material handling activities are still widely practiced in various industries, including supermarkets. Various products in supermarkets are moved with hand truck aids. This tool is used to ease of workers to avoid the risk of MSDs (musculoskeletal disorders) and LBP (low back pain). Workers' who concerns about work ergonomics, materials handling tools and their working environments can reduce the risk of MSDs and LBPs. In this paper we will examine how much the workers care about themselves, their tools, environment and their relation to work physiology of workers.Workers' concerns were identified using a Likert scale questionnaire with 5 scale of interest. Self-awareness is linked to an understanding of ergonomics, to hand tools used everyday and to the work environment. Occupational physiology is reflected in the pain experienced by workers as job impacts identified using Nordic Body Map (NBM), and work posture using OWAS (Ovako Working Posture Analysis System). The material handling worker assigned to move the product from supplier vehicle to warehouse or to showroom by hand truck. The survey results that the worker's concerned not so high on his ergonomics. The body map shows that before working the worker felt pain all over his body and got more pain after work. Worker's work posture varies substantially in category 1-2 which means that in this musculoskeletal system the work attitude results in significant tension influences requiring future improvement.

Abstract

Rice harvesting is a high ergonomic risk due to the working position, an awkward posture, and the repetition activity. Rice harvesting causes body pain in the part of low back, hand, and wrist. This study aims to (1) identify the characteristics of non-mechanical rice harvesting; (2) determine the working posture of rice harvesters using the Ovako Working Assessment System (OWAS) method, Quick Exposure Checklist (QEC), Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA), Postural Ergonomics Risk Assessment (PERA); and (3) determine the best method to assess harvesters work posture. An observation was conducted to nine of healthy workers in Bantul and Sleman districts, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) province. The questionnaire was set to collect respondent demographics data. Data for harvester body posture (neck, trunk, leg, wrist, lifting load, shoulder) repetition, duration and force were collected by observation in the field. A sickle was used to cut rice straw, while a manual gepyok and mobile hand thresher was used to threshing rice panicles. Four methods were applied to assess the work posture, i.e., OWAS, QEC, REBA, PERA methods. Based on observation, five workstations were identified: (1) cutting rice straw, (2) transporting rice straw, (3) threshing of panicles, (4) sorting, and (5) packaging and transporting. REBA and PERA showed a similar trend of the ergonomic risk, high to low risk took place in workstation transporting rice straw, packaging and transporting, cutting, and threshing. The assessment of work posture that is most suitable for non-mechanical harvesting methods was the REBA method with an accuracy of 92.9%.

Abstract

The risk of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) is one of the problems that often occurs in manual handling workers with heavy loads in repetitive work movements for a long time. One example of this movement is the manual palletization activity of Bottled Drinking Water products at PT XYZ. Initial observations showed that 18 workers felt limb discomfort while stacking cardboards of 18kg water bottles. This study aims to determine the Recommended Weight Limit (RWL) used to measure the lifting load limit for workers; Lifting Index (LI) measurement that can describe the level of safety of lifting loads. The results showed that the load limit in drinking water palletization activities exceeded RWL, while the results of the LI calculation showed that manual palletization activities of bottled drinking water had a score of 6.4 where the LI score according to the safety standards of lifting activities was 1. These results indicate that manual palletization activities are not safe for workers and are at risk of causing MSDs. This is evidenced by the results of the assessment of the level of work posture discomfort using NBM which shows the highest pain score in the lower back of the body. Furthermore, workload measurement results vary from heavy to very heavy. From all parameters measured, it can be seen that the manual palletization activity of Bottled Drinking Water products at PT XYZ is very poor. The recommendation that can be proposed is to change the work system of manual palletization activities to a mechanical or automatic system.

Abstract

According to the National Socio-Economic Survey (SUSENAS) in 2020, the average consumption of packaged seasoning from 2016 to 2020 grew the highest compared to other types of food at 9.13%. One of the most popular packaged seasonings is rendang powder, often accompanied by problems such as easily torn primary packaging, poor packaging, and incomplete packaging label information. To overcome these problems, developing a packaging design and determining the shelf-life is necessary. This research aims to create a concept for packaging powdered rendang seasoning that offers the highest value and to determine the product's shelf-life using the chosen packaging. The packaging design for powdered rendang seasoning was developed using value analysis and shelf-life was determined using the Arrhenius model through Accelerated Shelf-Life Testing (ASLT). Based on the research, out of five packaging concepts tested, it was found that packaging concept 2 has the highest value of 1.31 with packaging specifications using a packaging material of aluminum foil combined with plastic. A stand-up bag with a rectangular clear section, the package has a notch, zipper, and full labeling. Packaging concept 2 is the chosen packaging concept that meets the research objectives. It addresses the issue of easily torn packaging and includes improvements in packaging quality and more comprehensive packaging labeling. Based on the shelf-life determination of 3 packaging that has the highest values and 1 control package, packaging concept 2 has the longest shelf-life of 131 days, and based on the results of the proximate test conducted, packaging concept 2 is packaging with a sample that does not differ significantly (p value>0.05) with the control sample for all parameters quality.
