Abstract

The rapid development of technology today affects the birth of renewable technologies such as nanotechnology. This study reports the results of synthesizing gold nanoparticles with a more environmentally friendly method (green synthesis) using bilimbi fruit extracted through the infusion process. This synthesis method approach can be widely used in biological preparation. This study aims to determine the characteristics of synthesized gold nanoparticles and their potential as antioxidants shown through IC50 intensity. UV-Vis spectrophotometer and TEM were used to analyze the quantitative formation of gold nanoparticles. The analysis used 20, 10, 5, and 2.5 ppm concentration variations. The UV-Vis spectrum characterization results showed a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of 534-536 nm. The average diameter of the synthesized nanoparticles was 7.98 nm withΩΩ, an approximate overall particle size of 7-12 nm characterized using TEM. Antioxidant activity was carried out using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) silencing assay. The percent attenuation at each gold nanoparticle concentration of 20, 10, 5, and 2.5 ppm was 99.4%, 90.7%, 79.5%, and 71.9%, respectively. So, the IC50 value can be obtained at 0.514 ppm, which is included in the strong antioxidant. This shows that gold nanoparticles mediated by bilimbi fruit extract are effective antioxidant agents.

Abstract

Gold nanoparticles are inorganic metal materials with sizes ranging from 5-400 nm and are in the form of a suspension solution that undergoes a process of reducing particle size to nano form. This study aimed to determine the results of synthesizing gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) at a concentration of 20 ppm using a bottom-up approach with a green synthesis method characterized using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer and TEM and antioxidant activity test using DPPH. In this study, the synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) with a concentration of 20 ppm was carried out using a bottom-up approach with the green synthesis method. The parent solution of HAuCl4 was reduced with Moringa oleifera leaf extract (Moringa oleifera L.) bioreductor, which produced burgundy-colored gold nanoparticles. The results of the characterization of gold nanoparticles using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer obtained the previous wavelength of HAuCl4 of 309 nm. After being synthesized using moringa leaf extract bioreductor (Moringa oleifera L.), the maximum wavelength was shifted to 542.80 nm, with an absorbance value of 0.213. The characterization results using TEM obtained a diverse cluster size of gold nanoparticles with an average length of 6.635 and still in the nanometer size range with the highest frequency at 4-5 nm. The antioxidant activity test of gold nanoparticles was carried out at a concentration variation of 2.5, 5, 10, and 20 ppm, obtaining the percent of free radical suppression sequentially 69, 77, 76, and 83% with an IC50 value <50, which is 0.11 ppm which indicates that the antioxidant activity of gold nanoparticles is extreme. It can be concluded that gold nanoparticles synthesized using Moringa leaf extract have the potential to be a good antioxidant.

Abstract

Nanosilver is a silver-based material with a particle size of less than 100 nm. This study aimed to evaluate the antifungal ability of nanosilver used in a preservative in cosmetic and beverage preparations. The synthesis of nanosilver in this study produced particle with a spherical morphology and sizes ranging from 5-46 nm, with an average size of 28.33 nm and demonstrated good stability. Antifungal tests were in this study were carried out on cosmetic and beverage preparations, namely body lotion, serum, lip balm, and mangrove fruit (Sonneratia caseolaris) syrup. In the body lotion, the percentage of fungi in F0, F1, F2, F3, and F4 was 32.6%, 7.8%, 16.6%, 12.8%, and 11.4%, respectively. In serum samples, the percentage of fungial growth in F0, F1, F2, F3, and F4 was 24.6%, 10.6%, 17.4%, 15.6%, and 12.4%. In lip balm samples, the corresponding values were 30.2%, 5%, 22.6%, 18.2%, and 10.8%. In the mangrove fruit syrup sample, the percentages were 29%, 8.6%, 17%, 14.6%, and 12.2%. From these results, nanosilver at the highest percentage (15%), was unable to defeat the antifungal effectiveness of conventional preservatives.

Along with the times and technological developments, innovations in serum products are also increasing with the addition of active ingredients. Nanosilver is one of the nanotechnology findings and is known as a good antifungal. In this study, serum products were made with the addition of nanosilver as an antifungal, with variations in the acquisition of 20 ppm nanosilver by 5, 10, and 15%. This study aims to determine the characteristics of nanosilver synthesized using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer and TEM, determine the physical and chemical characteristics of nanosilver serum preparations, and determine the antifungal activity of nanosilver in serum cosmetic preparations. In this study, the synthesis of nanosilver using a chemical reduction method with sodium citrate as a reducing agent and stabilizer. Characterization of nanosilver with UV-Vis Spectrophotometer showed that the synthesized nanosilver was relatively stable, and the results of description with TEM showed that the nanosilver produced was on the nanoscale with an average diameter of 35.075 nm and spherical shape. The physical and chemical characteristics of the serum preparation carried out by organoleptic testing showed that the five samples were homogeneous, non-irritating, and had a pH of 6. Testing of nanosilver antifungal activity was carried out by the DMC (Direct Microscopic Count) method with direct counting techniques under a microscope for eight weeks. Based on the calculation results, from week 0 to week 8, it shows that the serum preparation with the addition of nanosilver can inhibit fungi with the growth of the number of hyphae in F1, F2, F3, F4, F5 respectively 24.25; 22.25; 3.25; 3; and 2.75%.

Abstract

Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are small-sized materials important in various commercial and industrial applications. Several methods have been developed to synthesise AuNPs. This study was conducted by synthesizing AuNPs using HAuCl4 as a precursor and red shoot leaf extract as a bioreductor. The concentrations of AuNPs used were 20, 10, 5, and 2.5 ppm. Characterization of gold nanoparticles at a concentration of 20 ppm was carried out using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer to measure the maximum wavelength and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) to determine particle size. Antioxidant activity at 20, 10, 5, and 2.5 ppm was determined by measuring free radical capture activity using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method. The results showed that gold nanoparticles had a maximum wavelength of 530 nm with a ruby red color and an average particle size of 14.907 nm. The synthesized AuNPs showed high antioxidant activity: 99.6% (20 ppm), 98.9% (10 ppm), 96.7% (5 ppm), and 91.0% (2.5 ppm), indicating that higher concentrations of AuNPs resulted in more significant free radical scavenging. This study successfully synthesized gold nanoparticles using red shoot leaf extract as an environmentally friendly bioreduction. The resulting nanoparticles have a nanometer particle size with very high antioxidant activity, especially at a concentration of 20 ppm. The method used in this study offers a more environmentally friendly alternative for synthesizing gold nanoparticles, which previously often used hazardous chemicals. The use of red shoot leaf extract as a bioreductor has not been widely reported in the literature, thus providing a new contribution to green nanotechnology. Further research is recommended to explore the potential applications of gold nanoparticles synthesized by this method in medical and other industrial fields. In addition, additional studies are needed to optimize the synthesis conditions and more in-depth characterization of the stability and toxicity of gold nanoparticles in practical applications.
