Abstract

Abstract: Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) serves as one of the tools to analyzethe linguistic and the social. This article aims at investigating the relevance of ideasamongst CDA figures—Fairclough, Van Dijk, Wodak, and Kristeva—to both socialand literary studies. This includes some significant points such as discourse, socialpractice, representation, power and intertextuality. The article shows, based on literarystudy, the aim of CDA applied linguistic aspect is to reveal the hidden in the analyticallevel of individual, institutional or social, i.e. domination and the abuse of power. CDAfigures agreed to some extent that the complex interactions of discourse and socialcould not be analyzed, unless it utilized the approaches of linguistic and social. In thecourse of identity, for instance, CDA abridges the social and the linguistic realm. CDA,in this regard, mainly advocates the under-privileged representations of everyday life.

Abstract

The government obligates halal certification for all products across Indonesia to capture the larger halal market. In 2025, Indonesia's total consumption of goods and services will reach US$ 330.0 billion. Modernity that requires society to increase economic and religious feasibility is a good combination for capitalists. This modernity has subsequently transformed into a halal lifestyle and has penetrated various sectors of the life of the modern Muslim community. However, Foucault says that power is a determining factor for the discourse that develops in society. The qualitative methods and unstructured observation completed with library data as sources will reveals the practice of power in disseminating the discourse of halal products using the Foucault’s power-knowledge. In practice, various efforts have been made by the government as the ruler by issuing various regulations as instruments of discourse. There was a discipline of halal products in the form of supervision carried out by the government in which society became the agent for monitoring halal products. Normalization is also carried out by imposing sanctions on products deemed not under regulations. The examination is the last step in the discipline of halal products by the government. This article concludes that government already makes halal-oriented as the new Muslim behaviour. Hence, the decline of religious diversity becomes a new threat as long as the halal issue is held by the only authority.

Abstract

There have long been different perceptions on what text and discourse are. Some experts in linguistics view these two objects as the same thing whereas others see them as two different forms. Occasionally, text and discourse are parallel to each other but often the former is seen as the subordinate of the latter and vice versa. This paper aimed at formulating new definitions of text and discourse in order to clarify the nature of each as well as the relations that may exist between them. The method applied in this study was by collecting as many as definitions of text and discourse as stated by linguistic experts and quoted in references. These data were then compared and contrasted to find out the similarities and the differences between the objects for drawing a conclusion in the form of definitions and descriptions that precisely represent the characteristics of each. The result shows that, text and discourse share both similarities and differences. At certain level, they can be seen as the same entity but in other conditions one may take position as part of the other.

Abstract

Social integration between Muslim and Western societies reflects complex dynamics in intercultural relations involving two historically, culturally, and religiously distinct social realities. Various issues arise in the integration process between Muslim and Western societies, one of which is halal food labeling. This research examines how the halal discourse, particularly in the case of Midamar Corporation, shapes shared consciousness and influences social interactions between the two groups. Employing a qualitative approach, this study reveals that Midamar Corporation, as a key actor, plays a significant role in shaping the understanding of halal products and mediates the relationship between Muslim identity and consumption. The research findings indicate that the halal discourse is not merely a product label, but also a means of constructing identity and a space for negotiating meanings in a global context.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to look at and reflect back on how religion, government, institutions, and society should view people with disabilities. The Bangun Aceh Forum is a facilitator for the sustainability of the livelihoods of people with disabilities so that they can continue to be productive and hone their abilities. This study applying a qualitative method, the study show that as a social institution and has a focus on developing marginalized communities towards a more secure direction, the provision of infrastructure is provided with the needs and conditions of disability. So far, the mention of disability describes disability in a broad context, even though people who experience mental problems can also be categorized as disabilities. There are no different ways of handling physical and non-physical disabilities. In the study of theology, persons with disabilities are a group of people who must be accepted in social life without labels and differences physically or mentally. However, in fact, the disabled until now continue to receive labels that are not good and have not changed from time to time where people think that people with disabilities are very dependent on humans with normal physical conditions and are not independent, and the talents they have are often neglected because they do not have the space and resources. place in people's lives. it is not uncommon to find people with disabilities who desperately choose to become beggars. Both physical and non-physical disabilities from time to time will continue to receive discriminatory treatment from the community, whether consciously or unconsciously. The provision, attention and understanding of disability self still needs to be improved in the socialization of social communities in order to understand the real concept and meaning of disability.

Abstract

The existence of Law No. 33 of 2014, which contains changes in the authority of halal certificates from the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI) to the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH), has created a polemic in society. Halal certificate, which was previously voluntary, has now become mandatory. This change in authority raises polemics. The civil society and business actors as agents and the JPH Law as a structure are the basis for the relationship between agents and structures in reconciling this polemic. Giddens' theory, which conceptualizes the duality between agents and structures, can be a useful analysis to reconcile these issues. This study aims to analyze the relationship between agents and structures in the change of authority and explain the duality between agents and structures from the perspective of structuration theory. This type of research is qualitative by using an interpretative approach to the core object of the problem in the study. The result of this study is the existence of a relationship between agents and structures to walk together in implementing halal certification. The agents who play a role in changing halal authority, consisting of BPJPH, business actors, and the general public in the structure (JPH Law), are expected synergize. It is intended to generate civil society who understands the dynamics of agent and structural changes in changing the authority of this halal certification.

Abstract

The phenomenon of the spirituality movement in the modern world has penetrated into the foundations of society. Modern humans always long for a happy life, so people enter into spiritual activities, one of which is by joining GAI which aims to gain a new spiritual life. GAI's offer of spiritual life makes a person have a pluralist attitude in his life in the social realm. The purpose of this article is to find out about their spiritual activities and how they view other Muslim and non-Muslim communities. The method of this research is field research, which uses a religious phenomenology approach. The results of this research show that GAI have dimensions of spirituality such as allegiance and Qur'anic ethics which enable them to feel inner peace. Apart from that, they also view people from other Muslim communities as Muslims in general, and their attitude towards the Ahl-Kitab does not view them with respect. In GAI's view, there is nothing wrong with a Muslim man marrying a non-Muslim woman and eating food slaughtered by the people of the Bible. The conclusion of this article is that a spiritual life causes GAI's religious understanding to become pluralistic and able to open itself to other views.

Abstract

State standardization in realizing the legitimacy of halal products focuses on the rules in Law No. 33 of 2014, which regulate Halal Product Guarantee. The halal label is a sign of the halal statement of a product and a halal guarantee for Muslim consumers in Indonesia. The company’s self-claim on the Halal certification serves as one of the problems besides the issue of habituation. In this vein, Halal certification is designed to control and regulate product halalness in the form of supervision to gain each producer’s acceptance. This article aims to determine the state's role and regulations as a panopticon for producers to register their products to obtain halal certification. The method used in this article is a qualitative approach using library research and the theory panopticon perspective of Michel Foucault to analyze it. The results of this article show that the state and regulations have yet to arrive at the panopticon system in the absence of strong law enforcement. This regulation functions as a monitoring tool for producers by referencing the halal label and its certification printed on the product. The implication of halal certification, a mechanism from internalizing power over every product in circulation to ensure quality and safety in the production process to achieving the status of tested halal, constitutes a more forceful discipline method.
