Abstract

Worms are diseases caused by the entry of parasites (in the form of worms) into the human body. The types of worms that are often found to cause infection are roundworms (Ascarislumbricoides), whipworms (Trichuris trichiura) and hookworms (Necatoramericanus) which are transmitted through the soil (Soil Transmitted Helminthiasis. Examination of helminth infections can be done qualitativelyand quantitative. The qualitative examination that is often used is the Direct slide method. while the quantitative examination that is often used is the Kato Katz method. This study aims to compare the accuracy of the worm infection examination between the Direct slide method and the Kato Katz method by examining stool samples. This research was conducted on 47 Ampenan Elementary School Students located on the coast in Mataram City, where the coastal area is one of the good breeding grounds for worms. This study used a comparative analytical research design with a cross sectional approach. To establish the diagnosis of helminthiasis and the type of worm that infects, an examination of worm eggs in stool samples is carried out using the Direct slide and Kato Katz methods. The results showed that the number of samples infected with STH was more commonly found by the Kato-Katz method. The results of measurements using the Direct slide method and the Kato Katz method showed that the highest prevalence of STH infection was Ascaris lumbricoides infection. Direct slide method produces a sensitivity level of 95.16% and a specificity of 100%.

Abstract

The nasal epithelium and nasopharyngeal mucosa are the main entry points and sites of SARS-CoV-2 replication. Therefore, it is very important to be able to maintain the health of the nasal and oral cavities during this pandemic, namely by nasal washing with salt water and gargling. Nasal washing is a practical, simple, economical, and feasible method to be applied in everyday as well as a non-pharmacological therapy to clean the nasal cavity from various microorganisms including reducing the number of viruses in the nasal cavity, so education about this is considered important to do. Online education is the right choice during this pandemic because people do more work from home and information about various things, including information about health, can be accessed quickly. This is an opportunity for health workers to provide education to the community, one of which is through a nasal washing video where in this video we discuss knowledge about nasal washing, its benefits and especially how to do it properly. In addition, the public can also provide input about this educational video through the google form, so that it can be suggestions for improvements in the future

Abstract

Ear health is a condition that greatly affects a person's quality of life. Hearing is very important, especially in communication, so maintaining ear health and hygiene is mandatory. In the elderly, the organ of hearing has decreased function due to degeneration of sensory cells. In addition to the accumulation of wax in the ears, this degeneration process can affect the ability to hear for the elderly so that it can interfere with communication with people around them. The purpose of this service activity is to provide ear health services to the elderly at the Mandalika Mataram Elderly Social Institution so that it can help the elderly in terms of maintaining ear cleanliness and conducting hearing tests with audiometry. This service activity was carried out one day and was attended by 30 elderly people, where the activity was carried out by cleaning the ears and then continuing with an examination of the condition of the ears and hearing tests for the elderly at the Mandalika Mataram Social Institution for the Elderly conducted by the service team. The participants were very enthusiastic about participating in this service activity. Based on the data collected, there were 3 participants who experienced moderate to severe hearing loss, 3 people with chronic suppurative otitis media, and 15 people with cerumen in one ear or both ears and the other was in good condition. These results illustrate the need for hearing screening activities, ENT health services and education to maintain ear hygiene in order to improve the quality of life of the elderly.

Abstract

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease with high blood sugar levels in the blood. DM can cause complications of various diseases because the body can not use blood sugar in the blood cannot be used. The number of DM sufferers, both in the world and in Indonesia, continues to increase from time to time, so this disease is a scourge for everyone. Writing this paper aims to discuss the healthy lifestyle of diabetics to avoid the risk of complications. The most severe disorder of this disease is a chronic metabolic disorder because the pancreas does not produce enough insulin hormone, which has the principal role in regulating and controlling glucose metabolism into energy. Over time, diabetes can interfere with the function of human organs. For example, some organs work improperly, and some should be amputated. One of the most effective efforts to keep blood sugar levels stable is dietary compliance in people with diabetes mellitus has role function. The impact of dietary regulation is maintaining normal-body weight, reducing systolic and diastolic blood pressure, lowering blood glucose levels, improving lipid profiles, increasing insulin receptor sensitivity, and improving the blood coagulation system. This disease requires continuous medical care by carrying out independent health management in patients to prevent acute complications and reduce the risk of long-term complications. It is principal to adopt a healthy lifestyle for diabetic patients in a frame to anticipate the risk of complications.

Abstract

The cage is a place used to put experimental animals in experimental studies to study the mechanism of the disease and its response to therapy. Formaldehyde as a carcinogenic compound can increase the occurrence of chronic inflammation which has the potential to increase the growth of cancer cells in experimental animals due to the stress experienced while in the cage. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of large and small cages induced by formaldehyde 30 ppm against nasopharyngeal dysplasia in Wistar rats. This research is an experimental study with a true experimental design with the type of post-test only control group design. This study used 12 male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) which were divided into two groups, namely the group of Wistar rats which were placed in large cages measuring (30 x 24 x 11.5) cm3 of 6 individuals, and in small cages (27 .5 x 21.5 x 9) cm3 of 6 individuals induced by 30 ppm formaldehyde with a span of 6 hours per day for 16 weeks. The rats were terminated and retro-orbital blood samples were taken to measure MDA levels and nasopharyngeal tissue to assess the degree of dysplasia. The results of this study showed that there was a statistically significant difference (p <0.05) between the degrees of nasopharyngeal dysplasia (p=0.003) and MDA levels (p=0.003) in Wistar rats in small cages and large cages. In this study the effectiveness of small cages was greater than large cages in causing dysplasia in the nasopharyngeal tissue of Wistar rats.
