Abstract

This research is motivated by the lack of worksheets development (LKS) at school based on the Realistic Mathematics Approach (RMA), which has resulted in low student mathematical abilities, especially in solving system of linear equations in two variables. This research aims to produce valid, practical, and effective Student Worksheets (LKS) based on the Realistic Mathematics Approach (RMA) for algebra. The research aimed to improve students' mathematical abilities, which will impact student learning outcomes. The research type is research and development (R&D) using the 4-D model. The target population of this study was 20 students of class VIIIA at Junior High School Neonbat. The instruments used were expert validation sheets, student response questionnaire sheets, and pretest and posttest questions. The results of the study showed that the quality of the student worksheets met the validity criteria, with an average value of 84.78% in the very valid category. The results of the LKS practicality questionnaire showed an average score of 90.6% in the very practical category. While in terms of effectiveness, it met the effective criteria. The average individual score for the pretest results was 24.5. However, it increased after using the student worksheet as indicated by the posttest results with an average value of 79.5. The percentage of classical completion based on the posttest results was 80%, which is included in the effective category. So that, the student worksheet for algebra material through realistic mathematics approach met the criteria of valid, practical, and effective.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of errors and the factors that cause students' errors in solving SPLDV story problems from a visual learning style perspective. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative. The research subjects consisted of Class VIII at SMP Negeri 2 Malaka Barat, who were identified as having a visual learning style. The research instruments were essay tests on SPLDV word problems and interview guidelines. Students' errors were analyzed using Kastelan’s theory, which classifies errors into conceptual, procedural, and technical. The results showed that students with visual learning style still made various errors, including (1) conceptual errors, such as inability to construct mathematical models from word problems and misapplying elimination or substitution methods; (2) procedural errors, such as failing to write systematic solving steps and not completing problems until the final stage; (3) technical errors, such as miscalculations and mistakes in copying numbers or variabels. The causes of errors came from internal factors (lack of conceptual understanding, inaccuracy, and difficulty in translating verbal information into symbolic form) and external factors (teaching methods with minimal visualization, an unconducive learning environment, and limited solving time).

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to reveal the mathematical concepts embedded in the weaving activities of Buna woven-cloth artisans in Letmafo Village, Central Insana District, North Central Timor Regency. This research employed a qualitative ethnographic approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation with three main informants: a traditional leader and two experienced weavers. Data analysis used domain, taxonomy, componential, and cultural-theme stages. The findings show that weaving activities contain mathematical elements such as counting (the number of threads and repeated patterns), measuring (length and width of the cloth using non-standard units such as hand-span), and designing (forming geometric patterns such as squares, triangles, rhombuses, and lines of symmetry). Ethnomathematics in the Buna motif reflects an integration between local culture and mathematical concepts of geometry and number patterns that can be used as contextual learning resources.
