Abstract

Abstract

Rice bran is a common poultry feed ingredients. However, its use is limited due to its high fiber content and low phosphorus content. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of feeding a fermented mixture of rice bran and PSW (RPSW) on the growth performances and carcass of KUB chicken. A mixture of two parts of rice bran and one part of PSH was fermented using rumen liquor for 5 days. Two hundred two-week-old KUB chickens were randomly allocated into four dietary treatments with different levels of fermented RPSW i.e.; 0, 10, 20, and 30% for treatments 1, 2, 3, and 4 respectively. Feed was provided ad libitum for ten-week observation period, and drinking water was always available. At the end of the feeding trial, chickens were slaughtered to measure carcasses and their components. The results showed that there were no significant differences in feed consumption and carcass percentage between treatments, but the final body weight, body weight gain, carcass weight, and organ weight of chickens fed rations containing 20 and 30% fermented RPSH were lower than those fed rations containing 20 and 30% fermented RPSH. 30% fermented RPSH. The control or ration was fed a ration containing 10% fermented RPSH. The results indicate that a fermented blend of rice bran and protein from slaughtered house waste incubated with rumen liquor for 5 days can be included in the KUB chicken diet up to 10%.

Abstract

This research aims to reveal information about the nutritional content of maggots cultivated using hatching egg waste as a feed medium. Carried out in two stages, the first stage involves rearing maggots using hatching egg waste and tofu dregs, while the second stage focuses on analyzing the nutritional content of maggots. The research involved five treatments and four replications, with controls P0 (100% tofu dregs), P1 (75% tofu dregs + 25% egg hatching waste), P2 (50% tofu dregs + 50% egg hatching waste), P3 (tofu dregs 25% + 75% egg hatching waste, and P4 (100% egg hatching waste). Each replication used one gram of BSF fly eggs, with tofu dregs and egg hatching waste being fed as much as 20 kg/biopond during rearing. The variables observed involved dry matter, ash content, crude fat, crude fiber, and crude protein. The results showed that P4 treatment produced maggots with the highest nutritional content, especially in terms of crude protein. In conclusion, the best food media was found in treatment P4, providing the potential to improve the nutritional quality of maggots as an alternative food source.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine the type and nutritional quality of feed and its effect on the productivity of super kampung chickens in The East Lombok Regency. This research was conducted by collecting data from ten farmers with a minimum population of a thousand super kampung chickens in East Lombok. Parameters observed were the type of feed used, the nutritional content of the feed, feed consumption, harvest weight, and feed conversion. The data obtained are tabulated and then discussed descriptively by comparing the nutritional content, feed consumption, harvest weight, and feed conversion obtained with the Indonesian Nasional Standard (SNI). Based on the results of the research conducted all breeders who were the target of the study used complete feed. There are 6 types of complete feed that are used and come from 4 different companies, namely GM-PS, GM-1EJ, SB11, HDBR1-168LCR, 811K NEWHOPE, HDBR 161 A. The feed consumption obtained ranges from 1.5-3.15 kg with an average of 2.26 kg/head/period. Harvested weight ranged from 0.84-0.91 kg/head with an average of 0.87 kg/head with an FCR value of 2.68. The conclusion of this study is that in general the nutritional content and quality of the feed used have met the standards based on SNI, but not followed by productivity that meets the standards.

Abstract

Farmers’ lack of awareness about the various plant and animal based alternative feed ingredients for poultry is the basis and objective of community service activities in the Teruwai poultry. The activities were carried out in three stages: Stage I, which consisted of preparation through discussions and communication with the livestock group leader and several farmers; stage II, which consisted of distributing materials on various plant and animal based alternative feeds, their advantages and uses for poultry farming, as well as providing materials on one of the animal based ingredients, specifically BSF larvae, which farmers could request; and Stage III, which consisted of mentoring farmers in the cultivation of BSF larvae. The community service participants were groups of male and female poultry farmers and young men and women from the Teruwai poultry community, a total of 20 people. The community service activities were successfully implemented and managed, with the participation of 30 people, including farmers, poultry group, and young men and women from Teruwai poultry community service participants, as evidenced by the attendance rate, with exceed the target, discussion, and a desire to learn more, especially about BSF larvae. The activity continued with concrete actions to cultivate BSF larvae in group cages. The conclusion is that this community service activity generated increased knowledge, enthusiasm, and concrete actions on the part of leader and members of the poultry group in Teruwai Village

Abstract

The study aimed to obtain data on the fatty acid profile of BSF maggot cultived using animal and plant-based media. The study was conducted through experimental stages and laboratory analysis. The experimental stage was carried out through BSF maggot cultivation using two media treatments, namely animal and plant-based media. The laboratory analysis stage began with the preparation of maggot samples to become mash. Next, a fatty acid profile analysis was conducted at PT. Saraswanti Indo Genetech Surabaya using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) to determine the type of fatty acids based on differences in volatility and molecular mass. The GC-MS results will provide quantitative data on the type and proportion of fatty acids continued in maggots. The parameters observed were water content, crude fat, and the fatty acid profile of maggots. The collected data were tabulated and discussed descriptively. Based on the results of laboratory analysis, it was found that maggots cultivated using animal media contained and average water content of 61.64% and crude fat of 55.48% (DM basis). Maggots cultivated using animal-source media contained higher unsaturated fatty acids than plant-source media. The highest laurate content was found in maggots cultivated using plant media (13.55%) compared to animal media (4.27%). The conclusion of this study is that the fatty acid profile is influenced by the growth media used, animal media will produce maggots with higher unsaturated fatty acids plant media will produce maggots with higher saturated fatty acids, especially lauric acid
