Abstract

This study is motivated by the frequent errors in the use of affixation in students’ daily conversations that do not conform to the rules of the Indonesian language. This study aims to analyze the forms of affixation errors in the daily conversations of students at STAI Ali bin Abi Thalib. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a morphological analysis approach. The data were obtained from students’ informal speech through observation and note-taking techniques. The results show that there are errors in the use of prefixes and suffixes, such as the use of non-standard forms influenced by regional dialects, for example “ambek” which should be “mengambil”. These errors are influenced by the students’ regional language background and their lack of understanding of Indonesian morphological rules. This indicates that the use of language that does not conform to standard rules can affect the quality of communication, especially in academic and formal contexts. Therefore, it is necessary to improve students’ understanding of proper affix usage in daily communication.

Abstract

The use of abbreviations and acronyms is a form of language development that emerged in response to the need for fast and efficient communication in the modern era. This study aims to examine the use of abbreviations and acronyms in Indonesian, including their definitions, types, writing rules, and roles in various communication contexts. The method used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive type of research through literature study, with data collection techniques including reading, recording, and classifying relevant sources. The results of the study indicate that abbreviations and acronyms are widely used in both formal and informal contexts, with the main function of shortening the delivery of information without losing meaning. However, there are also discrepancies found in their use with language rules, especially in digital media, such as ignoring punctuation and forming non-standard forms. The discussion emphasizes that abbreviations and acronyms play an important role in efficient communication, but their use must be adapted to the context and follow applicable language rules. Thus, a good understanding is needed so that the use of abbreviations and acronyms remains effective, clear, and in accordance with good and correct Indonesian language standards.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze punctuation errors in students' academic writing. Proper use of punctuation is essential in conveying clear and precise meaning in academic texts. However, many students still make errors in applying punctuation marks according to standardized Indonesian language rules. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected from students' academic papers, including essays and reports, using documentation and note-taking techniques. The analysis focused on identifying, classifying, and interpreting punctuation errors based on linguistic error analysis theory. The results showed that the most frequent errors occurred in the use of commas, periods, and hyphens. These errors were caused by a lack of understanding of punctuation rules, interference from spoken language, and limited writing practice. The findings indicate that improving students’ writing skills requires more emphasis on teaching punctuation rules and providing consistent writing exercises. In conclusion, punctuation errors remain a significant issue in students' academic writing and need systematic attention in language learning.

Abstract

This study examines the structure and mechanisms of word formation in Indonesian, emphasizing morphological phenomena such as affixation, reduplication, and composition. The background is rooted in the complexity of word formation processes in Indonesian that require structured academic study. The aim of this study is to describe the types of word structures and productive word formation processes in Indonesian. The method applied is descriptive qualitative with data collection through literature study and document analysis of primary linguistic sources. The findings show that words in Indonesian are divided into basic words and derived words, and the word formation process is dominated by affixation, including prefixes (me-, ber-, di-, pe-, ter-, ke-), suffixes (-kan, -an, -i), and confixes (me-…-kan, me-…-i, ber-…-an). Reduplication and composition also play an important role in expanding vocabulary. The research findings confirm that morphological processes in Indonesian are productive and regular, in line with the theoretical frameworks of Chaer (2008) and Kridalaksana (2009). This research deepens our understanding of Indonesian morphology and provides pedagogical implications for language teaching and learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the variation of predicate functions in Indonesian simple sentences found in students’ academic texts. The study is based on the importance of predicate functions in constructing clear, logical, and systematic academic sentences. However, students’ academic writing still tends to use limited and less varied predicate structures, resulting in monotonous sentence patterns. This research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive analysis method. The data consisted of simple sentences collected from academic texts, scientific journals, and relevant books. The analysis focused on identifying and classifying predicate functions, including verbal, nominal, adjectival, and prepositional predicates. The findings reveal that verbal predicates are the most dominant form used by students because they effectively convey actions and processes in academic writing. In addition, nominal and adjectival predicates were found to function in expressing identity and conditions, while prepositional predicates indicate structural variation in sentence construction. These findings demonstrate that predicate variation is not only related to grammatical aspects but also reflects students’ academic thinking patterns. Therefore, understanding predicate functions is essential to improve students’ academic writing skills and sentence effectiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to identify, classify, and explain various deviations in Indonesian basic sentence patterns based on syntactic theory and error analysis. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data consisting of 50 sentences containing deviations from basic sentence patterns. The data were purposively collected from students’ compositions, students’ scientific articles, and online media texts. Data collection was conducted through observation and note-taking techniques, while data analysis involved identification, classification, interpretation, and explanation of errors based on Indonesian syntactic theory. The findings reveal five major types of deviations: subject omission (24%), predicate omission (16%), misplacement of sentence elements (30%), syntactic function mismatch (20%), and redundancy (10%). Misplacement of sentence elements was found to be the most dominant type of deviation. These findings indicate a gap between the theoretical understanding of syntax and the practical use of Indonesian sentence structures in various contexts. This study contributes to the fields of syntax and error analysis and may serve as a reference for improving Indonesian language teaching and learning.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to critically examine the ethics and theological significance of animal slaughter in Islam through a library research approach. The study is motivated by the growing tendency of legalistic reductionism in both academic discourse and industrial practice, where formal compliance is prioritized over ethical and spiritual dimensions. By employing qualitative analysis of primary sources such as the Al-Qur'an, Prophetic traditions (hadith), as well as classical works of tafsir and fiqh, and supported by contemporary literature, this research seeks to reconstruct an integrative framework of Islamic slaughter. The findings reveal that animal slaughter in Islam encompasses three fundamental dimensions: theological (tawhid), ethical (ihsan), and legal-practical (fiqh regulations). However, in modern industrial contexts, these dimensions are often fragmented, resulting in a gap between formal halal certification and ethical quality (tayyib). This study argues that slaughter cannot be reduced to a mere technical procedure but must be understood as an act of worship that reflects obedience to God and moral responsibility toward living beings. Therefore, a paradigm shift from legal compliance to ethical compliance is necessary to ensure that halal principles align with ihsan, animal welfare standards, and global demands for sustainable food systems.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the semantic roles of iḍāfah constructions in the first 20 verses of Surah Az-Zumar and their theological implications based on the perspective of Tafsir As-Sa’di. The central problem addressed is the tendency of Quranic linguistic analysis to focus heavily on grammatical formalities (i’rāb), thereby neglecting its functional-semantic dimensions. This structural-formal reductionism risks obscuring the depth of the Quran's transcendental message, particularly in constructing the concept of monotheism (Tawhid). Employing a descriptive-analytical method within a qualitative library research framework, this study examines iḍāfah lingual units by synergizing Ibn ‘Aqil’s classical syntactic theory with functional semantics. Data were purposively collected using the note-taking technique, then textually analyzed and verified through literature data triangulation to ensure objectivity and interpretive accuracy. The results reveal 15 iḍāfah fragments, which are predominantly categorized as iḍāfah ma’nawiyyah, while iḍāfah lafẓiyyah is found in only one fragment. The findings identify several semantic roles grouped into three major thematic clusters: 1) Origin/Source roles that consolidate the authority of revelation, 2) Ownership and Relational/Honorific roles that define the proximity of the God-servant relationship, and 3) Agency and Legal Decree roles that establish human moral responsibility. The study concludes that the iḍāfah structure in the Quran is not merely a technical element but a theological instrument that transforms lexical meanings into profound and systematic concepts of monotheism.
