Abstract

Iridescent is one of the traditional fish fermentation products that has a sour taste and is widely known in various regions of Indonesia. In its metabolism LAB produces organic acids, hydrogen peroxide, diacetyl, CO2 and bacteriocin. These compounds are antimicrobial compounds that inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria and bacterial decomposition. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity produced by lactic acid bacteria isolates from catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus) inhibiting the growth of Escherecia coli. From iridescent obtained 9 isolates that have different characteristics from each other by the morphology of LAB isolate colonies which include colony color, colony shape, colony elevation and colony margin. After production of antibacterial, all isolates showed positive result when antibacterial tested againts Escherecia coli either in acidic condition or neutralized.

Abstract

One type of household waste that is commonly discarded and rarely reused is banana peel waste. If left unmanaged, it can cause environmental problems in both rural and urban areas. An alternative solution is to utilize banana peel waste, such as Ambon banana peels, as a source of local microorganisms for producing liquid organic fertilizer (POC). POC is relatively easy to produce and environmentally friendly. This community service program aimed to empower residents of Dasawisma Dahlia RT 004, Labuhan Ratu, Bandar Lampung, through training on the production of liquid fertilizer concentrate (LFC) from Ambon banana peels. The results showed an increase in participants’ knowledge and skills, as reflected in the average pre-test score of 60.51, which increased to 86.67 after the post-test. This represents an improvement of 26.15 points, or a 43.22% increase. The sustainability of this initiative lies in the potential for large-scale POC production, which can be further utilized for environmental and economic benefits.

Abstract

Averrhoa bilimbi L. is a type of plant that grows in yards or home gardens. This species belongs to the order Oxalidales and the family Oxalidaceae. This species belongs to the Oxalidales order and Oxalidaceae family. This plant has many benefits, including its stems, leaves, flowers, and fruit. The women of PKK RT 004 generally use the fresh flowers and fruit. The fresh fruit is used as an addition in making fish pindang as a substitute for tamarind and candis acid. However, the women of PKK have never used preserved fruit as sweets and asam sunti.  Therefore, it is necessary to optimize the use of fruit  by preserving it, such asam sunti.  Asam sunti is commonly used by the people of Aceh. Asam sunti is made from dried fruit, which is salted and dried in the sun repeatedly until the  fruit is dry and brown in color. The results of this community service activity showed good pre-test and post-test scores. The average pre-test score was 92.87 and the average post-test score was 98. There was an increase of 5.33 points. The sustainability of this community service activity is that the PKK mothers of RT 004 can disseminate the information obtained from this activity to other communities.
