Abstract

One of the countries with high biodiversity is Indonesia. The potential of existing plants has not been maximally empowered by the community, especially in the Liwa Botanical Gardens. The involvement of the staff in the KRL is very necessary to be able to directly collect the observed plants and make a herbarium. Constraint faced in making herbarium is in the drying process. So far, the herbarium drying process is still being carried out in Department of Biology, University of Lampung. This PKM activity will begin with a pre-test to determine the initial ability of KRL staff on the importance of the drying process and the practice of making simple herbarium dryers instead of ovens. At the end of the activity, KRL staff were given a post-test to determine the increase in knowledge about the importance of drying herbariums. With this PKM activity, KRL staff increase their knowledge and skills in using simple tools for drying plant samples and in the long term the availability of more diverse herbariums in an effort to conserve potential plants in KRL. The result of this activity was an increase in score points by 28.08 and a percentage increase in knowledge of 51.63%.

Abstract

Learning media is one of the methods used in the learning process and is highly needed in facilitating material delivery. In presenting biology materials, such as biodiversity, attractive media is crucial in helping students understand without excessive memorization. Preserved specimen is an example of learning media in this situation. Wet and dry herbariums are one of the preserved specimens commonly used by teachers. Meanwhile, bioplastic creation using resin has not been a common practice. Some advantages of bioplastic creation include more beautiful and durable results while also can be created as keychains. The aim of this community service is to train teachers in SMA 15 Bandar Lampung in making animal and plant preserved specimens through various procedures. After the training, there was an increase in knowledge and skill in making preserved specimens. The average pre-test score was 56.25, while the average post-test was 90,63. The average score escalated by 34,38 points.

Abstract

Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is one of the horticultural crops with strong potential as an alternative carbohydrate source. As the human population increases, the demand for potatoes continues to rise; however, its growth and productivity are often constrained by unfavorable environmental conditions, particularly drought stress. Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) is an osmotic agent commonly used to simulate drought stress in plants under in vitro conditions. This study aimed to determine the effects of PEG 6000 and to identify the PEG concentration that remains tolerable for potato plantlet growth under in vitro drought stress. The experiment was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a single factor, consisting of PEG concentrations of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%, each with five replications. The observed parameters included plantlet survival, plantlet height, and stomatal index. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at a 5% significance level, followed by the Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) test at 5%. The results showed that PEG 6000 significantly reduced plantlet height and stomatal index. The tolerable concentration of PEG 6000 for potato plantlets was determined to be 15%.

Abstract

Corn (Zea mays L.) is an important agricultural commodity. One of the limiting factors in corn cultivation is the presence of weeds such as Euphorbia hirta L. (Patikan kebo). The leaf extract of Euphorbia hirta contains allelochemical compounds such as phenols, alkaloids, saponins, and flavonoids that may inhibit seed germination. This study aimed to determine the effect of Euphorbia hirta leaf extract on the germination of corn seeds (Zea mays L.). The research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five concentration treatments (0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%) and five replications. The observed parameters included germination percentage, germination rate, plumule length, radicle length, and vigor index. Data were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA followed by the LSD test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that Euphorbia hirta leaf extract significantly affected radicle length and vigor index, with the highest inhibitory effect observed at a concentration of 20%.

Abstract

Oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus spp.) are types of mushrooms that can be consumed by humans. People generally cultivate mushrooms with white fruiting bodies, so they are called white oyster mushrooms. The cultivation of oyster mushrooms is the same as the cultivation of other edible mushrooms. White oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) is often found in traditional markets and supermarkets. The market demand for white oyster mushrooms is still very large, but the production of white oyster mushrooms is still very low. Along with the increasing popularity of oyster mushrooms in the community, causing consumer demand and the market for oyster mushrooms to continue to increase, therefore to meet these needs it is necessary to cultivate white oyster mushrooms more optimally. Based on observations in Bandar Sari Village, Central Lampung, the community has not done much white oyster mushroom cultivation, so this community service activity needs to be carried out by conducting training on oyster mushroom cultivation for the local community, it is hoped that this training can serve as an economic source for the community in the future. This training activity was held on September 17, 2021 in Bandar Sari Village, Central Lampung, aiming to provide knowledge about the types of oyster mushrooms and their benefits, oyster mushroom cultivation, and oyster mushroom processing. This activity is expected to provide skills in oyster mushroom cultivation and processing for the people of Bandar Sari Village. The results of the activity showed that people who participated in the training had increased knowledge about the types of oyster mushrooms and their benefits, oyster mushroom cultivation, and oyster mushroom processing. Abstract

Srimenganten Village, located in Pulau Panggung Sub-district, Tanggamus Regency, Lampung Province, is an agrarian area with vanilla as one of its main commodities. However, vanilla productivity in this village has declined due to the outbreak of Vanilla Stem Rot Disease (BBV), caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. vanillae. To address this issue, a community service program was conducted through training on BBV disease management for vanilla farmers in Srimenganten Village. The training covered topics such as disease symptom identification, prevention methods, and environmentally friendly control techniques. The effectiveness of the training was evaluated by comparing participants' pre-test and post-test results. The evaluation showed an average increase in participants' knowledge scores by 33.3 points, with a percentage increase of 61.3%. This indicates that the training effectively enhanced farmers' understanding of BBV disease management. It is expected that this increased knowledge will be applied in vanilla cultivation practices, thereby improving productivity and the quality of harvests.
