Abstract

In electric business, costs that support production called with allowable electric cost or basic cost of electricity. Therefore, the basic cost of electricity has to get more attention seriously from the electric company in order to be trusted by consumers. In determining of the costs must be transparence and do the optimizing in calculating process because of revenues from customers have to be able to cover the basic cost of electricity so that the electric company does not go bankrupt. This paper will create concept and formulations for determining the basic cost of electricity in a region. There are a few different characteristics of each region will influence the costs. The basic cost of electricity can be different among regions that were caused by generating, investment and losses in the region. Later has been done a numerical simulation to simple power system and the results are matching with desired expectations.

Abstract

Economic dispatch problem has grown along with the development of electric power business, for example in a competitive electric power business that offers electrical energy in the form of the step function, non-differentiable function. This is not a continuous function so there is no guarantee that those methods can execute the optimization problem well, especially the Lagrange and Direct methods. There are the non-differentiable functions within the optimization will become a challenge that should be solved. This paper proposes Coarse to Fine Search method development to solve the problem. The Coarse to Fine Search is able to work for differentiable or non-differentiable functions, but is only limited maximum three dimensions. The development is done to multi dimension so that it can solve the economic dispatch problem. We named it Multi Dimension of Coarse to Fine Search. The simulation results of eight power plants show the developed method can work well, it is always convergent and fast with the execution time of 2.63 - 38.30 seconds for 25 - 200 population and 50 - 200 delta search.

Abstract

Technically, electricity business under competition structure is more complex than that of vertically integrated one. The main prolems here are how to create an applicable competition framework and to solve electric calculations very quickly to obtain an optimal energi pricing, cost of losses, congestion and transportation costs by less than 15 minutes. This paper proposes a competition framework with the electric calculations, where  a bilateral contract has been accommodated. Optimal energy price in the paper is calculated based on direct method of economic dispatch to obtain the result very quickly. The proposed method has been simulated to a 4-bus system. The simulation results show that the method works well and complies with the expectation. Therefore, electric power business under competition structure can be well realized by the proposed method. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i4.849

Abstract

The energy crisis has got the serious attention of experts since the middle19th century. Many efforts with significant progresses has been yielded to obtain its solution, such as technology development and diversification of primary energy sources, but the threat of the energy crisis has not been able to be avoided. Early tahun 1990, attention of experts are focused on energy savings, operating efficiencies and transparency. As a result, they have recommended changing the electric power business of the monopoly system to the market system, competition. In a competitive system, the problems will be more complex, especially in the energy price through optimization. One of the popular energy pricing methods today is LBMP, Locational Based Marginal Price, which has been successfully applied by New York, US. Generally, it is determined through ED, Economic Dispatch, calculations. In this case, Operator must do the complicated adjustments, especially for congestion conditions, so that thier results can be applied to the network. The simulation results, both heavy and light loads, showed that the OPF with step reduction can work well. Comparing with ED has to done some adjustments because a few contraints were out of their limits.
