Abstract

Many psychological problems arise when facing retirement due to unpreparedness during this period. Unpreparedness is commonly triggered by their fears of being unable to meet primary and secondary needs. Physical issues such as retirement health are essential, but paying attention to psychological problems is also necessary. Research on the well-being of retirees needs to be done to see what factors influence both internally and externally. This study aims to test the retirement well-being model in terms of such aspects as gratitude, forgiveness, and social support mediated by self-efficacy. This study used the structure equation model (SEM) approach with a sample of 220 retirees aged at least 55 through a convenience sampling technique. The data was collected in Bandung and its surroundings for six months, from August 2019 to March 2020, through well-being, gratitude, forgiveness, social support, and self-efficacy scales. The results of the research model tested have a good fit with empirical data and meet the goodness of fit requirements. There is a direct influence of gratitude, social support, and self-efficacy on well-being. There is an indirect effect of social support on well-being through self-efficacy. The value of the indirect effect is smaller than the direct effect, meaning that self-efficacy is not a good mediator variable for social support for well-being. In conclusion, most retirees experience well-being due to social support from their environment and their gratitude and self-efficacy. The well-being of retirees can be increased by appreciation, having social support from the environment, and having confidence in one's ability to deal with problems.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of job satisfaction on psychological well-being among Indonesian Special Needs School (SLB) teachers, a group facing unique professional demands. Despite prior research linking job satisfaction and well-being in general populations (e.g., Tenggara et al., 2008), SLB teachers remain understudied despite their critical role and challenges (Firmansyah & Widuri, 2014). Using purposive sampling, data from 116 SLB teachers were collected via Ryff’s Psychological Well-Being Scales and Job Satisfaction Survey, and analyzed through simple linear regression. Results confirmed a significant positive effect (p=0.000), with job satisfaction explaining 27.9% of well-being variance, while demographic factors (e.g., education level, marital status) further influenced outcomes. Psychological well-being was high overall, but job satisfaction averaged medium, highlighting gaps in institutional support. The study contributes to industrial-organizational and positive psychology literature by empirically validating this relationship in SLB teachers and suggesting targeted interventions (e.g., improved salaries, social support) to enhance their welfare.

Abstract

Dental students are expected to become professional dentists. For this reason, the learning process that is carried out can be said to be not easy with many courses, tasks that must be completed immediately, and laboratory practices that must be followed. Coupled with the current pandemic situation, dental students must be able to adapt to new learning methods. The purpose of this study was to empirically examine the effect of peer social support on academic stress of dental students during a pandemic. The method used is quantitative. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling. The characteristics of the samples taken were active dentistry students who followed online or hybrid learning methods and took courses supported by laboratory practices. Respondents of this study found 71 people. The measuring instrument of this study used symptoms of academic stress and aspects of peer social support. The data analysis technique used is simple regression. The results of the hypothesis test showed a significance value of 0.023 (p 0.050) and an R Square value of 0.072 was obtained. This shows the accepted hypothesis, namely the influence of peer social support on academic stress of dental students during a pandemic, where peer social support has an effect of 7.2% on academic stress, while the remaining 92.8% is influenced by other factors. outside of research.

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical period of development marked by significant physical, cognitive, and emotional changes. However, with the rise of smartphone use, adolescents face challenges related to their sleep quality. Excessive smartphone use, especially at night, has been linked to disrupted sleep patterns, which can negatively affect their health and well-being. Objective: This study aims to explore the relationship between smartphone addiction and sleep quality in adolescents. The primary goal is to understand how smartphone addiction influences sleep duration, sleep disturbances, and overall sleep quality, which is crucial for the health and functioning of adolescents. Methodology: A quantitative approach was used in this research, employing two standardized scales: one for measuring sleep quality and another for assessing smartphone addiction. Data were collected from adolescents aged 12 to 20 years who met the inclusion criteria of owning a smartphone, using it for at least five hours daily, and engaging in nighttime smartphone use. Simple regression analysis was used to examine the correlation between smartphone addiction and sleep quality. Findings: The results revealed a significant negative correlation between smartphone addiction and sleep quality. Adolescents with higher levels of smartphone addiction exhibited poorer sleep quality, characterized by shorter sleep duration, more frequent awakenings, and reduced feelings of refreshment upon waking. These findings highlight the detrimental impact of excessive smartphone use on adolescent sleep. Implications: This research contributes to the understanding of how smartphone addiction affects sleep quality among adolescents. The findings suggest that managing smartphone use could be a vital factor in improving sleep quality, which in turn may enhance overall adolescent health and well-being. This study offers a foundation for future interventions aimed at promoting healthier smartphone usage patterns among adolescents. Originality: This study provides new insights into the specific impact of smartphone addiction on sleep quality in adolescents, particularly in the Indonesian context. The research offers a unique perspective compared to previous studies and adds valuable data to the broader field of digital health and adolescent well-being.
