Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or often abbreviated as COPD is a term used for a number of diseases that attack the lungs for the long term. This disease blocks the flow of air from the lungs so that sufferers will have difficulty breathing. The purpose of this study was to examine and implement nursing care for patients with COPD in the Pejuang room of Bangkinang Hospital in 2024. This research method uses a descriptive research design in the form of a case study. The subject in the case report is Mr. M who is 47 years old with COPD in the Pejuang room of Bangkinang Hospital which was carried out for 3 days on June 26 to 28, 2024. Data obtained through interviews, physical examinations and supporting examinations. During the assessment, the client felt shortness of breath, felt weak, and had decreased appetite. Therefore, the researcher established 3 (three) main problems with the nursing diagnosis of ineffective airway clearance related to airway spasm, ineffective breathing pattern related to respiratory effort obstruction, activity intolerance related to imbalance between oxygen supply and demand. Three-day nursing evaluation of the client, namely the problem resolved. The report of the results of this case study is expected to be a guideline for researchers in providing nursing care to patients with COPD, as a reference in learning on campus, and as a reference in providing nursing care to patients by nurses in hospitals.

Abstract

Pneumonia is an infectious disease that affects the lower respiratory tract with signs and symptoms such as coughing and shortness of breath. Pneumonia, or inflammation of the lungs, can cause various serious impacts, including complications such as lung abscess, empyema, pleural effusion, respiratory failure, and even death. In addition, pneumonia can also cause pulmonary fibrosis and bronchiectasis, and increase the risk of kidney failure if complications such as sepsis occur. In An.M, the main complaint felt was that the mother said that 3 days ago before entering the hospital she had a cough with phlegm, shortness of breath and difficulty in expelling phlegm. The purpose of this scientific paper is to obtain an overview of nursing care by providing pursed lips breathing exercises. This study uses a direct observation method in assessing, analyzing data, and diagnosing patients with Pneumonia with one respondent, carried out at HCU Anggrek. The results of this nursing care showed that breathing began to return to normal. This shows that pursed lips breathing exercises can provide changes to breathing in Pneumonia patients. It is hoped that patients can apply pursed lips breathing exercises routinely with the hope that breathing in patients will return to normal.

Abstract

Thermotherapy is the application ofheat to the body to reduce pain intensity. This therapy is effectivein reducing both acute and chronic pain, as it can increase blood flowby dilating blood vessels and improve muscle elasticity, thereby reducing muscle stiffness. Thermotherapy is one of the non-pharmacological therapies used toreduce pain in patients with ST ElevationMyocardial Infarction (STEMI) patients. Optimal pain managementis crucial to prevent complications and improve patient comfort. This study used a case study design with a nursing care approachon Mr. N, a 62-year-old man diagnosed with STEMI. The studywas conducted from April 12-14, 2025, in the CVCU RoomArifin Achmad General Hospital, Riau Province. The assessment revealed that the patientexperienced stabbing chest pain radiating to the back, with a pain scale of7. The ECG showed ST elevation. The diagnosis wasacute painrelated to myocardial ischemia due to coronary artery obstruction. The interventions included the administration of thermotherapy.Thermotherapy was applied usinga hot water bottle filled with water at a temperature of 40-43°C and placed on thechest area for 15-20 minutes when the patient felt chest pain and was carried out for 3consecutive days. The pain scale was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). After the application of thermotherapy, the pain scale became a 3. It is hoped that thermotherapy can be used as an independent intervention by patients and families if they experience recurrent chest pain due to STEMI.
