Abstract

With the high demand for sea lobster as the industry has developed, Indonesia has an opportunity to establish the world's largest lobster aquaculture production. Therefore, a study related to the growing-out of lobster and also the development of engineering technology of lobster enlargement is needed. This study aims to determine the growth performance of Panulirus homarus reared in a bottom cage method. Lobsters with an average size of 116,25 g were reared for 150 days and fed with trash fish of 3%-4% of the biomass daily. The results showed that the use of the bottom cage method had positive effects on the survival rate, average body weight, specific growth rate dan food conversion ratio was 85%, 170 g, 0.25 g per day and11.16 respectively. The water quality is also was still within the suitable range for lobster rearing.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the optimal stocking densities of eel (Anguilla bicolor) with a running water system in the grower stage. The test fish used were eels with a weight of ±59 g and size homogeneity of ±80% obtained from natural catches in the Cilacap area. The test method used was field-scale experimental with stocking densities used as B1 (3,41 g L-1 or 34 fish m-2) and B2 (3,62 g L-1 or 36 fish m-2). The rearing was conducted for six months in rectangular fiber tanks measuring 5,8 m × 0,85 m × 1,12 m. Responses observed included specific growth rate, survival rate, and feed conversion ratio. The results showed that treatment B2 (3,62 g L-1) with higher stocking density produced higher SGR and FCR than treatment B1 (3,41 g L-1) at 0,42% day-1; 4,64 and 0,37% day-1; 5,84, respectively. Differences in stocking density in this study are also known to have no effect on eel survival, in which SR values during the rearing of all treatments reached 100%.
