Abstract

This study examines the role of transformational leadership in enhancing productivity and retention among freelance manufacturing workers, addressing the challenges of job instability and low engagement in gig-based employment systems. The research problem focuses on how transformational leadership can mitigate these issues by fostering intrinsic motivation, work engagement, and organizational commitment. The objectives include analyzing the impact of transformational leadership on worker performance, identifying mediating factors like work-life balance, and providing actionable strategies for leaders in the manufacturing sector. A systematic literature review was conducted using the PRISMA method, analyzing six peer-reviewed articles from databases such as Scopus and Web of Science (2019–2023). Key findings reveal that transformational leadership significantly boosts productivity by inspiring workers, providing clear vision, and offering individualized support. Mediating factors like intrinsic motivation and work-life balance were critical in improving retention, while organizational commitment further strengthened performance outcomes. The study highlights the importance of adaptive leadership styles, digital tools for engagement, and inclusive recognition programs to sustain freelance worker loyalty. Practical implications include recommendations for leadership training programs and the integration of technology to enhance communication and feedback. Theoretically, the study contributes to understanding how transformational leadership can be tailored to non-traditional work arrangements. By addressing the unique needs of freelance workers, this research offers a framework for manufacturing firms to improve productivity and reduce turnover in an evolving labor market.

Abstract

Leader narcissism is a multifaceted personality construct characterized by grandiosity and a need for admiration, which may interact with other traits within the "Dark Triad." In the context of leadership, narcissism exhibits paradoxical characteristics: on one hand, it can foster charisma and ambitious vision, even promoting positive ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) behaviors; on the other hand, excessive need for validation can lead to exploitative actions and significant negative outcomes. This literature review examines the multilevel impact of leader narcissism at the individual, team, and organizational levels—drawing upon Trait Activation Theory and Socioanalytic Theory. The findings indicate that leader narcissism can trigger counterproductive subordinate behaviors, increase team turnover, and affect organizational quality. However, political skill may serve as a moderating factor that enhances the functional expression of narcissism. This review identifies conceptual, methodological, and empirical gaps, and proposes future research directions to further elucidate the complexity of this phenomenon.

Abstract

The development of culture-based entrepreneurship, such as traditional batik businesses, presents both challenges and opportunities for enhancing innovation and entrepreneurial productivity. This study aims to systematically review literature related to the key factors influencing entrepreneurial performance within the context of artisan entrepreneurship, particularly among batik enterprise managers. By analyzing over 50 selected scholarly articles published within the past two decades, this review identifies the interrelation between technological opportunities, creativity, and social capital as internal resources that drive the formation of innovation capability, which in turn contributes to increased entrepreneurial productivity. The findings reveal that innovation capability functions as a crucial bridge linking technology and creativity to business performance in cultural enterprises. Furthermore, social capital plays a moderating role by strengthening the innovation process through solid community networks and the preservation of living cultural values. This study offers an integrative conceptual framework that can inform the design of empowerment strategies for batik-based UMKM and serve as a reference for future research grounded in the Resource-Based View, particularly in the development of microenterprises rooted in local wisdom.
