Abstract

The elderly are one of the most vulnerable groups during a disaster. The vulnerability of this group is caused by physical and mental changes in the elderly. These changes can cause the elderly to become victims of a disaster. To reduce the impact for disaster of elderly fatalities, it is necessary to educate them on how to save themselves when a disaster occurs. The purpose of this nursing care is to increase the knowledge of the elderly in self-rescue during an earthquake. Nursing care was carried out with a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest on 15 elderly people in RW 17 Parupuak Tabing Village. Nursing care will be carried out from November to December 2022 by providing earthquake preparedness education using pamphlets. The result of providing nursing care was an increase in the knowledge of the elderly after being given education about disaster preparedness, with an average pre-test score of 2.27 and a post-test average score of 7.13. The increase in the average pre-test and post-test was 4.86 with a value (p value = 0,000). This means that there is an educational influence on the knowledge of the elderly about how to save themselves when an earthquake occurs. It is hoped that the BPBD will develop plans and activities focused on increasing knowledge to respond to disaster risks by providing education and training for the elderly.

Abstract

Hypertension is often referred to as "the silent killer" because it often goes without complaints, so sufferers do not know that they have hypertension but then find that they already have a disease or complications from hypertension. Hypertension treatment or prevention can be done traditionally using Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA). TOGA is increasingly preferred because of its low side effects and is more suitable for various metabolic and degenerative diseases. An area with a high incidence of hypertension is the Dadok Tunggul Hitam Padang Community Health Center. The high incidence of hypertension in this area is because people do not comply with the diet of hypertensive patients and do not know the correct treatment methods. Thus, it is essential to educate people in the area about the treatment of hypertension using family medicinal plants. The activity was carried out on 28 July 2023 by conducting a pretest first to determine the community's understanding before providing intervention, then continuing with providing education and handing over Family Medicinal Plant (TOGA) seeds to hypertension patients and at the end of the session a posttest was carried out again. The results were that public knowledge before education was 65% and after education was 100%. There was increasing in knowledge scores because people were enthusiastic about participating in education. The suggestion for the community health center is to monitor the results of this education.

Abstract

The study aimed to examine the correlation of determinant factors of quality of life in coronary arterial disease (CAD) patients, including knowledge of disease, smoking cessation, physical activity, and dietary regulation. A quantitative, cross-sectional study using convenience was conducted among 216 CAD patients from the West Sumatra, Indonesia, outpatient cardiovascular center. Data were collected using the cardiovascular disease knowledge assessment questionnaire, smoking cessation, physical activity, diet questionnaire, and self-assessment questionnaire to measure knowledge of the disease, smoking cessation, physical activity, diet, and quality of life, respectively data analysis using Chi-square, Pearson correlation, and multivariate linear regression test. The result showed that dietary regulation was the most influential variable on the quality of life of CAD patients (B=1.670, SE=0.341), followed by smoking cessation, physical activity, and knowledge about the disease. Our data suggest that dietary regulation, smoking cessation, and regular physical activity as modifiable CAD risk factors and disease knowledge improve the quality of life of CAD patients. Future research and clinician intervention for CAD awareness of lifestyle modification should be expanded to focus on barriers and their challenges during cardiac rehabilitation.
