Abstract

The Qur'an Education Park (TPQ) and Tahzhul Qur'an House (RTQ) of the Raudhatul Adzkia Jorong Dalam Koto Nagari Koto Tangah, Tilatang Kamang, and District of Agam have been launched since 2015. The students who study here are free of charge. The operational costs of education and the honorarium for educators come from donations from their community and some nomads. However, this contribution is not sufficient for operational costs. The Department of Chemistry's community service team, Andalas University, collaborated with partners to start a business to solve this problem. The business was carried out using vacant land owned by partners for catfish cultivation. Surveys, program socialization and assisting activities were carried out online using virtual media, while Partners carried out the implementation in the field. Activities carried out were pond preparation, the release of catfish seeds, feeding, sorting, maintenance, harvesting, and marketing cultivated catfish. Based on the evaluation, 5000 seedlings from the released catfish developed well. About 99% of catfish typically growth to a large and even size, while the other 1% growth relatively slowly. Harvested catfish were sold for IDR 18,000/kg for wet fish and IDR 100,000/kg for dried fish. This business has been carried out sustainably by partners, and the profits have been used to support the operational costs of TPQ and RTQ Raudhatul Adzkia.

Abstract

Chemistry is one of the subjects taught in State Senior High Schools (SMAN), especially in Natural Sciences (IPA). The problem with chemistry subjects is that it is difficult to practice in the laboratory because laboratory facilities such as space, equipment and chemicals are expensive. As a result, chemical laboratory practices were only sometimes carried out. Several lecturers and students from the Department of Chemistry, FMIPA Unand Kimia Unand, carried out service activities at SMAN 16 Padang through laboratory practice using materials and equipment that were cheap and readily available in the surrounding environment. This community service aims to train teachers and students to carry out chemistry practicums using simple materials and equipment available around them. The training was given to chemistry subject teachers and students in the science laboratory at SMAN 16 on 17 and 21 November 2022. The material was practised in oxidation and reduction (redox) and electrolysis reactions. The activity went smoothly; the students enthusiastically carried out the practicum. Through the results of this simple chemistry practicum, students can design and carry out chemical experiments using simple tools and materials, conduct direct observations of chemical processes, practice scientific thinking, attitude and work skills and analyze and solve various scientific processes using scientific methods. SMAN 16 hopes that this activity will continue with different topics.

Abstract

Red guava fruit is one type of fruit that quickly changes colour, texture and spoilage. This is of course a problem for farmers. At harvest time, not all of the fruit is marketable. So sometimes farmers just leave the fruit on the tree, because if harvested it will only increase operational costs. The KWT Jambu Biji Bengke Sakato, VII Koto Sungai Sariak, Pariaman is a group of red guava farmers. They tried to find a solution to this problem by discussing with TIM PPM KIMIA UNAND of the Department of Chemistry, FMIPA, Universitas Andalas. Finally it was agreed that the solution was to make products from red guava. The products made in this program are dodol and red guava ice cream. The KWT members and the Tim PPM KIMIA UNAND together made these two types of products. The results obtained, dodol and ice cream made are quite delicious and have an attractive appearance. This product can be an alternative to red guava processing that has economic value.

Abstract

The removal of diazo red B dye was studied in water using the electrocoagulation method with an aluminum electrode. The study aimed to reduce the presence of harmful diazo red B dyes in the environment and their impact on living organisms. This study was conducted by testing various parameters with specified values. The initial dye concentrations were set at 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 mg/L, while the electrocoagulation times were varied at 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, and 180 minutes. The initial pH levels were adjusted to 5, 6, 7, and 8. The applied voltages were 2.5, 5, 7.5, 12.5 V, and the distances between electrodes varied at 1, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, and 2 cm. The study also examined the effects of initial dye concentration on electrocoagulation time, its interaction with pH, and the influence of pH on electrocoagulation time. These parameters aim to determine the optimum conditions for diazo red B removal, as measured by a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 420 nm. The optimum removal efficiency of diazo red B was achieved with 94.32% for an initial dye concentration of 30 mg/L, 94.13% for an electrocoagulation time of 180 minutes, 96.00% at a pH of 6, 95.32% for a voltage of 7.5 V, and 95,75% for an electrode distance of 1.5 cm. Additionally, the efficiencies were 99.5% for concentration relative to time was 99.5%, for concentration relative to pH was 97.85%, and for pH relative to time was 96.00%. Additionally, the coagulant analysis of the electrocoagulation results was carried out using FTIR and morphological analysis of the surface of the damaged aluminum anode using an optical microscope.

Abstract

The 210Po activity of seven samples, as filum 3 crustacean samples from Sukabumi and 4 mollusc samples from Lamongan, was analyzed using an alpha spectrometer with an energy of 5.305 MeV for 48 hours. The highest 210Po activity was found in Crustacea in Fan shrimp (23.28 ± 3.33 Bq/Kg) and the lowest in Crab Crab (1.46±0.34 Bq/Kg). The highest 210Po activity in Molluscs was found in Squid (25.71±3.66 Bq / Kg) and the lowest was in Green mussel (6.00±1.00 Bq/Kg). The highest annual effective dose from Lamongan in infants with fan shrimp consumption (34.22 μSv/year), in children (10.11 μSv/year) and adults (4.67 μSv/year). The highest annual effective dose from Sukabumi in infants with squid consumption (19.27 μSvyear), in children (5.69 μSv/year) and adults (2.63 μSv/year). This annual effective dose is much lower than the dose range set by The United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR), indicating that Indonesia is safe from the radioactive element 210Po. The annual effective consumption dose depends on seafood intake through food plus the community’s habit of always cooking before consuming seafood. This fact must be considered when comparing the annual effective dose between regions or countries and in calculating 210Po contamination in several species of crustaceans and molluscs that are distributed and consumed.
