Abstract

The knowledge and understanding of the community about antibiotic usage are crucial to avoid inaccuracies in drug utilization. Negative impacts that can arise include the occurrence of resistance and the reduction in antibiotic effectiveness. Students with non-health related educational backgrounds are among the parts of the community that have a limited grasp of issues related to antibiotic usage. The aim of this research is to assess the level of knowledge and attitudes of non-health related major students towards antibiotic usage. This study utilized a cross-sectional method with validated questionnaires. Inclusion criteria for this research were non-health undergraduate students at Andalas University who were willing to complete the questionnaire comprehensively. The obtained data were statistically analyzed using SPSS version 26. The research findings indicate that non-health related major students at Andalas University possess moderate knowledge (54.7%) while their attitudes tend to be positive (71.1%) towards antibiotic usage. A significant correlation between students' knowledge and attitudes towards antibiotic usage was found, with a p-value 0.05. There was no significant correlation found between students' sociodemographic characteristics (faculty, age, gender, presence of family members working in the healthcare field) and their knowledge level. However, concerning attitudes, factors that influence include gender and the presence of family members working in the healthcare field.

Abstract

Prediabetes is a preclinical condition with a high risk of progressing to type 2 diabetes. This study evaluated an eight-week self-care training program among UIN Jakarta employees, facilitated by Public Health Pharmacy and integrating Avicenna’s classical health principles with WhatsApp-based digital education. A quasi-experimental pre–post design without a control group was applied to 39 participants meeting prediabetes criteria. Clinical parameters assessed included random blood glucose (RBG), systolic blood pressure (SBP), body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference (WC), along with self-care practices using the Indonesian version of the Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire (DSMQ). Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon signed-rank test and Cohen’s dz effect size. Significant improvements were observed in SBP (dz = -0.530), BMI (dz = -0.253), WC (dz = -0.320), and DSMQ score (dz = +0.793), while RBG showed no significant change. These findings support a culturally relevant, cost-effective model for workplace-based prediabetes prevention. In line with American Diabetes Association (ADA) 2025 Standards of Care, the approach emphasizes person-centered Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) and team-based support; European Society of Cardiology (ESC) 2024 guidelines align the observed SBP reduction with recommended targets after lifestyle intervention. Future programs should extend duration and adopt hybrid delivery for optimal glycemic control.

Abstract

Introduction: Ischemic stroke is a major cause of global morbidity and mortality, with anticoagulant therapy being the primary choice for secondary prevention in specific cases. However, scientific evidence regarding the effectiveness of anticoagulant therapy in the Indonesian population remains limited. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of anticoagulant therapy based on changes in coagulation parameters (PT, APTT, INR) and their association with clinical outcomes in ischemic stroke patients at Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital, Padang. Methods: This retrospective analytical observational study included 68 ischemic stroke patients who received anticoagulant therapy (January–December 2024). Effectiveness was assessed by changes in PT, APTT, and INR before and after treatment using Wilcoxon and Kruskal-Wallis tests. Results: Anticoagulant therapy significantly increased PT, APTT, and INR values in most treatment groups (p<0.05), with no significant differences among anticoagulant types (p>0.05). Patients with mortality outcomes showed higher increases in coagulation parameters, but a significant association was only found for changes in APTT (p=0.033). Conclusion: Anticoagulant therapy effectively affects coagulation parameters in ischemic stroke patients, and increased APTT after therapy is associated with mortality. Further prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings.
