Abstract

Jeruk adalah salah satu buah yang konsumsinya tinggi. Hingga saat ini produktivitas jeruk di Indonesia terus menurun karena banyaknya alih fungsi areal pertanaman jeruk ke pertanaman komoditas lain yang lebih menguntungkan.  Alih fungsi ini terjadi karena kurang bersaingnya produksi jeruk local dengan jeruk impor. Kriteria jeruk yang bernilai tinggi di pasar global adalah jeruk dengan rasa manis-segar, warna menarik, mudah dikupas dan tan[a biji. Jeruk siam Indonesia sebenarnya sudah memiliki rasa dan warna yang baik tetapi hingga saat ini belum ada varietas jeruk siam tanpa biji. Salah satu pendekatan pembentukan jeruk tanpa biji adalah dengan mengkulturkan endosperma sehingga dapat beregenerasi membentuk tanaman dengan ploidi triploid. Tanaman dengan ploidi triploid tidak mampu membentuk biji yang fertile. Salah satu penentu keberhasilan kultur endosperma adalah tahapan perkembangan eksplan endosperma yang sudah dan masih memiliki kemampuan untuk berdiferensisasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui tahapan perkembangan endosperma yang berespon baik untuk diinduksi regenerasinya baik secara langsung maupun tidak langsung. Penelitian dilakukan dengan mengkulturkan jaringan endosperma yang diisolasi dari buah muda  pada formulasi media MS+BA3mg/l+Casein hidrolisat/ ekstrak malt dan penambahan biotin untuk memperkaya formulasi vitamin. Biakan dikulturkan dalam kondisi gelap dan terang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa endosperma dari buah 12 dan 13 minggu setelah antesis dapat diinduksi pembentukan kalusnya. Sampai saat ini penambahan ekstrak malt atau biotin lebih baik untuk menginduksi pembentukan kalus, sementara embrio somatic langsung terbentuk pada media dengan penambahan casein hidrolisat. Inkubasi pada kondisi gelap lebih menginduksi pembentukan kalus sementara embrio somatic langsung dapat terbentuk baik pada kondisi terang maupun gelap.

Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to estimate the population characteristics of the Pesisir cattle in Pesisir Selatan district of the West Sumatera province. Purposive sampling procedure was used to collect data from 484 farmers rearing about 1341 Pesisir cattle in Pesisir Selatan. The data were statistically analyzed descriptively. Results of the study showed that ratio of male to female was 1 : 7. The population was dominated by females with the age of more than 3 years (35,72%), while the lowest (0.89%) was the male at more than 3 years of age. The rate of calving, calving percentage, and percent of died were 24.09%, 49.85%, and 1,98%, respectively.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the diversity and correlation of egg production performance in Sikumbang Jonti ducks as a basis for making selection decisions. The materials used were 47 female Sikumbang Jonti ducks. In the production phase, Sikumbang Jonti ducks were intensively reared in individual battery cages for 24 weeks. The observed variables were body weight (g), age at first laying (days), egg production (eggs), and egg weight (g). Data on body weight, age at first laying, total egg production, and egg weight were analyzed descriptively by calculating the mean value, standard deviation, coefficient of variation, minimum value, and maximum value. Furthermore, data on body weight, age at first laying, egg production, and egg weight were also analyzed for correlation to see the direction and relationship between variables. The results of this study were that Sikumbang Jonti ducks have an average body weight of 1299g, age at first egg laying of 170.19 days, average total egg production of 36.62 eggs, and average egg weight of 59.06g. The diversity of body weight, age at first egg laying, and egg weight of Sikumbang Jonti ducks are moderate, while the diversity of egg production is high. The diversity of body weight, age at first laying, and egg weight of Sikumbang Jonti ducks are included in moderate diversity. In contrast, the diversity of egg production is included in high diversity. Based on the correlation of body weight, age at first laying, egg production, and egg weight of Sikumbang Jonti ducks, age at first laying is the selection variable that can be used as a good predictor of egg production performance. In conclusion, the study results show that a longer age of first laying can be used as a selection variable to increase the production and egg weight of Sikumbang Jonti ducks.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the pasteurization method on the microbiologicalquality of goat’s milk stored at different times in the refrigerator. The research was conducted in MarchMay 2020 at the Animal Production Laboratory of the University of Lampung and the Laboratory ofthe Lampung Veterinary Center. The goat milk sample were colleted from Etawah Grade goats fromsmallholder farms in Metro City. Milk samples were taken from 20 goats from Etawah Grade in the 2ndand 3rd lactation periods. The goat milk sample used was 9 liters. Goat milk samples were pasteurizedusing the high temperature short time (HTST) method at a temperature of 72ºC for 15 seconds thencooled and put in a plastic bottle and stored in the refrigerator. This study used a completely randomizeddesign (CRD) with long storage treatment (0 days, 12 days, 24 days, 36 days, 48 days, and 60 days) in therefrigerator. The results showed that pasteurized goat milk with different storage times had no effect onthe microbiological quality, namely TPC, S. aureus, coliform bacteria, E. coli, reductase numbers andpH values. The conclusion of this study is that pasteurized goat’s milk using the HTST method is stillsuitable for consumption until the 60th storage day
