Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesian automotive industry recorded some progress as indicated by its growth. During peroid of 1999-2006, this sector experienced 8 percent growth rate on average. Production of automotive in 2005 reached 533.910 units motor vehicles and 5.074.204 motor cycles. Although the production volume in Indonesia is still much smaller than in order ASEAN countries like Thailand and Malaysia, the fact that Indonesia lies in emerging market with domestic rapidly expanding implies that there is still an opportunity for developing the industry. This paper explore development literature that related to structur, conduct and performance and investigate recent trend of the automotive industry performance. Beside of this, this paper examine influence of the market share, capital intensity, import intensity and labor productivity on automotive industry performance. Price-cost margin indicator is applied in measuring this performance. Base on the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC) 34100 (motor vehicles); 34200 (motor vehicles bodies); 34300 (component of motor vehicles), 35911 (motor cycles); 35912 (motorcycles component), the result shows that automotive industry performance in Indonesia relatively low (i.e. PCM above 50 percent on average). Keywords: industry performance, price-cost margin, automotive industry.

Abstract

This paper investigates whether public transfers crowd-out inter-household transfers in Indonesia. Using household data from Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS-3 & IFLS-4), this study evaluates the impact of direct cash transfer programs (Bantuan Langsung Tunai, BLT) on inter-family transfer (i.e., monetary transfer from parents, siblings, child, and other family members who do not live co-residently). The results indicate that, in general, the crowding-out effect is relatively small. This effect is statistically significant only in urban households but not rural ones. This finding suggests that expanding public transfer under formal social security programs to cover poor households does not significantly reduce the existence of informal transfers. Further, public transfers potentially improve the distribution of household income.

Abstract

This study investigates the nonlinear relationship between inflation and economic growth in ASEAN-5 countries, with a focus on identifying country-specific inflation thresholds and analyzing macroeconomic resilience before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The study aims to evaluate how inflation shocks above certain thresholds influence economic stability under dynamic global conditions. Quarterly data from 2000 to 2023 including inflation rates, real GDP growth, and lending interest rates were analyzed using Threshold Autoregressive (TAR), Panel Threshold Regression (PTR), and Vector Autoregression (VAR) models. Impulse Response Functions (IRF) and Chow tests were employed to assess dynamic interactions and structural shifts across time. Results reveal heterogeneous inflation thresholds: 0.13% (Singapore), 2.11% (Malaysia), 2.39% (Philippines), and 3.25% (Thailand), while Indonesia exhibits a volatile threshold of –1.11%, reflecting structural instability. When inflation exceeds these thresholds, real GDP declines significantly, with Indonesia showing a contraction of up to 1.2% over four quarters. Post-pandemic impacts are notably stronger, indicating reduced economic resilience. The study highlights the need for adaptive, threshold-based monetary policy tailored to each country’s structural profile. Regional policy harmonization should be reconsidered in favor of context-specific responses, including inflation-targeting frameworks, commodity price stabilization, and economic diversification to strengthen resilience amid global uncertainty.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of social capital on household welfare in Indonesia. Social capital is considered an important asset that contributes to improving the economic and social welfare of households, but access to and utilization of social capital is not always evenly distributed among different groups in society. This study uses the Propensity Score Matching (PSM) method with the Average Treatment Effect on the Treated (ATT) approach and stratification techniques to estimate the influence of various social capital indicators on household welfare. The estimation results show that social capital has a positive and significant effect on household welfare, particularly through participation in social gatherings, membership in cooperatives, religious activities, neighbourhood security, social gatherings, women's activities, and childcare. However, some forms of social capital that are communal in nature and related to basic services do not show a significant difference in household welfare. These findings confirm that strengthening social capital plays an important role in improving household welfare in Indonesia
