Abstract

The aim of this research was to know the diversity of amphibians in Lore Lindu National Park. The research was used survey methods which was located at the conservation area of Kulawi section in the Lore Lindu National Park Central Sulawesi. The result of the research showed that there were five (5) species of amphibians collected which were found and belonged order Anura. These species were Bufo melanostictus, Bufo celebensis, Fejervarya cancrivora, Rana (Hylarana) erythraea, and Kaloula baleata Muller.

Abstract

Sulawesi is an island that has high biodiversity. However, utilization of natural resources has been harming habitat of animals. The destructions of their habitat cause some animals become extinct from earth. Tarsius wallacei is one of the primate species from Tarsidae family and is an endemic species of Central Sulawesi region.  This research was done because the status of Tarsius becomes an endangered species. The purpose of this research was to estimate the population of T. wallacei at Lebanu village. This research was conducted during 3 months using Point Count method. The result of this research showed that populations of T. wallacei at Lebanu village are 11 groups and their densities are 0.19 groups/ha.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to determine the diversity of the soil macrofauna in Biopore Absoption Holes filled with cocoa pod waste (Theobroma cacaoL.). The study was conducted from April to August 2015 in the cocoa plantations Sibonu Village, Sigi District, Central Sulawesi. Sample identification executed in laboratory of Biology, Faculty of Basic Sciences,Tadulako University. The method used in this study are handsorting. There are six species identified from the field i.e: scorpion (Mastigoproctus giganteus), spiders (FamilyLycosidae), red small-millipedes (Order Spirobolida) and black small-millipedes (Order Pselaphognatha), legthousand yellow (ClassDiplopoda) and earthworms (class Oligochaeta). Diversity and even ness indexes are low.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the earthworm and how population earthworm in Biopore Absortion Holesfilled with cocoa pod waste. The study was conducted from April to August 2015 in the Sibonu Village, Sigi District Central Sulawesi province. Samples are preserved into alcohol series i.e 30%, 50%, and 70% before stored into alcohol 70 % for the pickling and identification process. Sample identification was executed at Laboratory of Biology, Faculty of Basic Sciences, Tadulako  University, Palu using identification key by Sims and Easton (1972) and Easton (1979). There are only one species found in the field namely Planapheretima sp. and earthworm juvenile which is belongs to family Megascolecidae. The result showed that there was one species is Planapheretima sp. and other individual are still in the juvenile phase of the family Megascolecidae of subgenus Planaheretima. The highest population density of earthworm is the biopore absortion holes 3 (cocoa pod waste), compared to the biopore absortion holes 1-2 (cocoa pod waste), K+ (without cocoa pod waste) and K- (without biopore absortion holes).

Abstract

Tarsius wallacei is an endemic mammal of Sulawesi published by Merker, et al on 2010. Even though the distributions, vocalizations and morphometric have been studied well, the ecological aspect especially type of feed was not studied whereas the diet information is an important data for conservation of this endemic species. The objective of the study was collect the variety of tarsius’s prey in the wild. A collection of samples has been conducted from February to October 2015 using sweep net, light trap, and hand capture methods. The results of prey collection show that Tarsius wallacei feed on insects. Thirteenspecies were found as a prey of Tarsius wallacei which consists of 10 order, i.e. Orthoptera, Blattodea, Coleoptera, Araneae, Lepidoptera, Hemiptera, Odonata, Isoptera, Hymenoptera and Homoptera. Proximate analysis of the three orders that belong to the group Insecta indicated the Tarsius wallacei probably consume mainly on Orthoptera with the highest protein content, 69.32%, followed by Lepidoptera (66.51%), and Coleoptera (41,98%)

Abstract

The Black Ant, Dolichoderus thoracicus Smith have long been recognized as a potential biological control agent in Cocoa plantation. The aims of this study were to determine how long D. thoracicus can survive on artificial nests in cacao plantation and to identify the ant competitor of D. thoracicus. The research conducted in three cocoa plantation i.e. Desa Labuan Panimba, Desa Langaleso, and Desa Pantoloan in Donggala District, Sulawesi Tengah. Artificial nest of D. thoracicus made from bamboo and palm leaves smeared with palm sugar solution and then hung in cocoa trees. The black ant, D. thoracicus can be survived for thirty days in the cacao plantation in Desa Labuan but only one day in Desa Langaleso. The weaver ant (Oecophylla smaragdina) and Philidris sp. were identified as the competitors of D. thoracicus ants inside the artificial nests. Keywords: Dolichoderus thoracicus, artificial nests and ant competitors.

Abstract

Association of bird species in Wera Nature Park, had been done from March to April 2016. This research aimed to discover the association among bird species existing in  Wera Nature Park of West Dolo Sub-District of Sigi Regency of Central Sulawesi. The method used was transect method, which was by making plots measuring 20x20 m totaling 15 plots and were placed along the transect line with a length of 50 m. To find the relationship among the species, the researcher used association analysis which were counted based on the 2x2 contingency table. The result was then confirmed by using X² Chi-square table. Based on the analysis result, it can be found that there are seven associations formed, namely tricoloured munia (Lonchura malacca) and the lemon-bellied white-eye (Zosterops chloris) bird species, collared kingfisher (Halcyon chloris) and yellow-billed malkoha (Phaenicophaeus calyorhinchus), sooty-headed bulbul (Pynonotus aurigaster) and lemon-bellied white-eye (Zosterop schloris), lemon-bellied white-eye (Zosterops chloris) and rusty-breasted cuckoo (Cacomantis sepulclaris), yellow-billed malkoha (Phaenicophaeus calyorhinchus) and uniform Swiftlet (Colacalia vanikorensis), white-necked myna (Streptocitta albicollis) and brahminy kite (Haliastur indus), tricoloured munia (Lonchura malacca) and rusty-breasted cuckoo (Cacomantis sepulclaris).

Abstract

Ecological studies of small mammals often use several methods with various traps. Effective use of traps can increase the number of catches in this study. Small mammal samples were taken using the method of removal sampling for species diversity and set the traps using random purposive sampling method. In this case we use three types of traps, i.e. snap traps with roasted coconut bait smeared with peanut butter, pitfall traps with drift fence and rat snare with fruit as bait. Collection and installation of bait done at 07.00 WITA in the morning. From this study it is known that the use of traps falls very effectively in the study of small mammals, especially those living in terrestrial. This report provides information on common methods and effective traps are used in studying the diversity of small mammals.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to determine the species composition, attendance level, species diversity and evenness of birds in Wera Nature Park, Sigi, Central Sulawesi. Data of birds was collected during February - March 2016 using point count method or IPA (Index Point of Abundance) by placing an observer at a systematically and predetermined point, then record and identify the birds directly by visually encountered or indirectly by voice. T-test was used to determine differences in bird species diversity between morning and afternoon at the 95% confidence level. During the study period, 35 avian species belonging to 21 families were identified. The families with most members were Colubridae and Cuculidae, each of the families have 6 species member. In addition, 6 endemic species to Sulawesi were also recorded. Based on the guild, 10 species of birds were 100% in the occurance. Results of evenness of birds and bird species diversity in Wera Nature Park did not differ significantly between morning and afternoon. It seems to be influenced by the availability of food in the Wera Nature Park both in the morning and afternoon. So TWA Wera is still a appropriate habitat for the bird life.

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the abudance crown of thorn starfish (Acanthaster planci L.) in the Gulf of Tomini, Central Sulawesi. The study was conducted in February─April 2019 preliminary method used a purposive sampling (determining the sampling point for transect sampling) and the belt transect method which is 20 x 2 m. Sampling of A. planci was carried out at 4 stations. Data collected were the number of individuals, measurement of environmental parameters including Temperature, pH, Salinity, DO and Substrate observations on habitat. Based on the results of the study, 48 individuals at all stations and the abundance of A. planci in the Gulf of Tomini, Central Sulawesi were in the natural/normal category with a value of 0.01 ind/m2─0.25 ind/m2.
