Abstract

Back in 2020, there was a civil war between the Federal government of Ethiopia and the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) that led to a six-month state of emergency. The crux of the conflict lies in different political ideologies. UNHCR provides humanitarian assistance, protection, and coordination with the main target of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ethiopia. The author uses qualitative research methods and employs Clive Archer's theory of the role of international organisations to assess how the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) handled the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Ethiopia-Tigray conflict. The findings of this study show that UNHCR actively carries out its role as an international organisation in handling internally displaced persons affected by the Ethiopia-Tigray conflict as actors. UNHCR directly uses its implementation on most of the aid activities for IDPs. UNHCR not only serves as an ally to UN states, but also develops and implements prevention strategies and solutions to internal crises, addressing challenges such as unstable food conditions and limited resources. UNHCR prioritises meeting the needs of internally displaced Ethiopians by moving shelters, delivering Core Relief Items (CRIs), and providing humanitarian assistance, which includes daily living needs such as non-food items. UNHCR has final responsibility in its role as an operational actor, directly utilising its implementation on most relief activities for IDPs in the Ethiopia-Tigray conflict. Abstract

China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a collaboration officially agreed by Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chinese President Xi Jinping on April 20, 2015. For Pakistan, this collaboration is an opportunity to resolve existing challenges, such as the energy crisis, but also a golden opportunity to become a regional economic center. However, behind the expected benefits of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), this project has also caused serious social problems, namely cases of bride trafficking, where human trafficking involves Pakistani women who are forced to marry Chinese men and experience difficult living conditions, become victims of abuse, forced prostitution, and some are victims of organ sales in China. In this case, the study wants to find out why the Pakistani government took action to cover up the bride trafficking cases that occurred. This study uses a qualitative research method, with library research data collection techniques. Documents are sourced from books, international and national journals, official government and non-government documents, as well as news and press releases of activities. Data is also enriched with journals and official websites of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and websites that are directly related to the research object. The study showed that the reason the Pakistani government covered up the bride trafficking case in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project was not only an effort to protect diplomatic relations with China, but also driven by broader economic and social interests. Where these interests have a very positive impact on the country and society of Pakistan. This decision reflects the priority of the Pakistani government in pursuing economic development and social welfare, despite having to face criticism and challenges related to human rights issues. Abstract

This article will analyze the three pillars of food security in Riau Province and the factors that influence the fulfillment or non-fulfillment of these pillars. It will also outline the impact on vulnerable groups such as women and children if food security is not met. This research employs a qualitative method with data collection through literature analysis and selected documents such as journals, annual reports, and official documents released by governmental or non-governmental agencies. Speaking of factors influencing food security, there are four determining factors: government, economic access, environment, and global/international conditions. However, for food security in Riau, poverty and the environment are the two determining factors and are the main priorities for analysis in this article, including how the Riau Provincial Government responds to these conditions. The article demonstrates that in the pillar of food availability, the quantity and consumption of food are determining factors that impact the occurrence of malnutrition, undernutrition, and even stunting in children. Poverty and the environment are the main determinants of unmet food security in the pillar of food access, with the environmental factors being influenced by deforestation and population growth. Meanwhile, in the pillar of food utilization, the amount of energy consumption is the determining element.

Abstract

This research discusses how Greenpeace's efforts to deal with the damage to the Amazon tropical forest due to Brazilian deforestation during the leadership of Jair Messias Bolsonaro during the 2019-2022 period. The average concentration of deforestation during the reign of Jair Bolsonaro increased sharply, this is in line with the report of the Global Crime Index organization in 2022, if deforestation of the Brazilian Amazon tropical forest becomes an important highlight and shapes global dynamics. Greenpeace as an environmental INGO (International Non Governmental Organization) has made a series of efforts to minimize deforestation and its impacts, especially for indigenous peoples. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive research method with a literature study approach. Data and information were collected and analyzed to understand the phenomenon studied. The results showed that Greenpeace Brasil has not succeeded in influencing the Brazilian government's policy towards deforestation control through a series of campaigns and advocacy. Greenpeace Brasil's position as a non-governmental organization has limitations as an initiator, facilitator, mediator and reconciler actor. Therefore, Greenpeace cannot directly change every anti-environmental regulation of the Bolsonaro government. By presenting scientific evidence through various reports, the organization has succeeded in shaping public opinion in favor of deforestation control measures and providing valuable input for policy change. Greenpeace. Greenpeace Brazil strives for a better life through the socialization of preventive and repressive actions for indigenous communities around the Amazon Forest region of Brazil. Abstract

Education is a fundamental right of every child, including the children of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in Malaysia. However, various challenges such as immigration status, financial constraints, and Malaysian education policies that limit access for non-citizen children pose significant obstacles to their access to formal education. This study aims to analyze the role of Sekolah Indonesia Johor Bahru (SIJB) in providing educational services for PMI children in Malaysia. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach to illustrate the educational phenomenon of PMI children in Johor Bahru. Data were collected through literature studies, interviews, and direct observations of SIJB activities. The findings indicate that SIJB serves as an alternative educational institution that provides access for PMI children who are unable to attend Malaysian public schools. SIJB offers an education program based on the Indonesian curriculum with various adjustments to meet the needs of migrant children. Additionally, SIJB collaborates with the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Johor Bahru to assist students in obtaining legal documents, enabling them to pursue higher education. The existence of SIJB demonstrates the commitment of the Indonesian government, through KJRI Johor Bahru, to ensuring the right to education for PMI children while also serving as a form of educational diplomacy in Malaysia. With various programs and support provided, SIJB plays a crucial role in bridging the educational access gap for PMI children. Abstract

This study examines Pertamina Hulu Rokan's efforts in supporting the achievement of Indonesia's 2060 Net Zero Emission (NZE) target. The research background is based on the increasing greenhouse gas emissions caused by human activities. Leading to global climate change and significant environmental impacts. It considers both global and national contexts, including commitments to the Paris Agreement and Indonesia's NZE 2060 program. Using a qualitative approach, data was collected through literature studies, policy document analysis, and interviews with experts and relevant stakeholders. The theoretical framework integrates the Neo-liberal Institutional perspective and International Regime Theory, providing a foundation for understanding the interaction between international norms and national policies, the role of non-state actors, and the contribution of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in the clean energy transition. NZE norms, previously limited to the international level, will influence national and corporate policies once ratified. Keywords: Pertamina Hulu Rokan, Net Zero Emission, International Regime

Abstract

Human trafficking through online scam schemes has emerged as a new form of transnational crime that is increasingly prevalent in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. Thousands of Indonesian citizens have fallen victim to fake job offers spread through social media, lured by promises of high salaries and simple recruitment processes. However, upon arrival abroad, these individuals are instead subjected to exploitative working conditions in companies operating online scam activities. This research aims to analyze the role of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in addressing human trafficking in online scam cases in Indonesia. This research uses qualitative method with primary data collected through interviews and secondary data through literature review. The researcher further utilizes group behavior level of analysis, the pluralist perspective, and Clive Archer’s theory of International Organizations. The result of this study indicate that IOM carries out its role through the 3P + Partnership approach: Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, and Partnership. This framework comprehensively illustrates IOM’s efforts in responding to the increasingly complex issue of human trafficking, which has evolved in line with advances in digital technology, particularly in the form of online scams. Abstract

This study examines the role of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as an international organization in addressing the water and sanitation crisis in Haiti through the WATSAN program. Haiti, one of the poorest and most disaster-prone countries in the Caribbean, suffers from multidimensional challenges, including weak infrastructure, political instability, and limited access to clean water. These structural conditions prompted USAID to intervene with a development program focused on improving water governance, infrastructure, and community behavior. Using Clive Archer's theory of international organizations, this research analyzes USAID's function as an instrument of U.S. foreign policy, a forum for collaboration with local institutions, and an independent actor in operational development. The study employs a qualitative-descriptive approach through document analysis, including evaluation reports and government data. Findings show that USAID played a multifaceted role in the WATSAN program: building fecal sludge management facilities, supporting digital monitoring systems, and strengthening the capacity of Haitian institutions such as DINEPA and OREPA. Despite these achievements, the program faced significant challenges related to land tenure, community engagement, inter-donor coordination, and political instability. Overall, the study concludes that USAID’s involvement in Haiti illustrates the complex realities of international development organizations balancing operational goals with sustainable, locally owned outcomes.
