Abstract

Gempuran hoax atau berita bohong menjadi semakin menghawatirkan. Penggunaan sosial media yang menjadi salah satu arena penyebaran hoax harus mendapat perhatian utama khususnya bagi generasi Z yang merupakan konsumen mayoritas dari jejaring tersebut. Pada makalah ini akan dipaparkan mengenai bagaimana peranan literasi media melalui kajian linguistik fungsional menjadi senjata terhadap serangan berita bohong, yang diterapkan dalam ranah pendidikan di Indonesia. Literasi media merupakan sarana untuk menjadikan kita pembaca yang kritis dan tidak langsung terprovokasi oleh isu yang media sajikan (Cope, 2002). Sebagai bagian tak terpisahkan dari esensi Systemic Functional Linguistics atau tata bahasa fungsional, literasi media mengajak kita untuk faham akan bagaimana sebuah teks memiliki multidimensi dalam pengkonstruksian makna (Halliday dan Matthiessen, 2004). Oleh karena itu, sudah saatnya linguistik fungsional digalakan sebagai senjata ampuh anti hoax dalam dunia pendidikan di Indonesia. Kata kunci:

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the elements of suprasegmental sound in English debates consisting of stress and intonation by using the PRAAT computer program and students' perceptions toward the use of PRAAT in learning English debate. The data of this study were taken from the practice of debate in the General English class which is a compulsory course in Universitas Kuningan. A total of 30 students from one class of General English were involved in this study. The method used is a mixed method. Several instruments were used to collect data including observation and documentation for qualitative data, and questionnaires for quantitative data. PRAAT program version 6.0.33 was used to analyze the stress and intonation patterns, while questionnaire was used to determine students’ perceptions toward the use of PRAAT in mastering English debate. The results showed that the use of intonation and stress can affect the meaning of speech, especially in debate. Furthermore, students gave a positive response to the use of the PRAAT application in understanding the correct intonation patterns and pressure in speaking English.Keywords: PRAAT; debate; EFL classroom

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to find out problems in writing argumentative essay faced by Indonesian EFL learners. It is carried out in a qualitative research design as it attempted to describe the problems and their ways out. The data were taken from university students’ writing task and interview. The participants are the second year of university Indonesia students who enrol their study in English Department. Results of the data indicated that Indonesian EFL learners faced the problems in three categories, those are linguistics problems, cognitive problems, and psychological problems. Mostly, students faced problems in linguistics related to the grammatical structure (23.2%), formatting words (30.2%), words classes (16.3%), error in using words (9.3%), and the use of article (21%). Second, cognitive problems are related to organizing paragraph, difficulties in remaining word classes, getting lost the generic structure, making a conclusion, and putting punctuation. Last, psychological problems which included laziness, egoism, bad mood, and difficulties to start writing also faced by Indonesian EFL learners. Data analysis also indicated the problem solving which hopefully will be beneficial for EFL teachers in writing class. It is strongly recommended that the EFL class should strengthen all the language skills in general and writing in particular, motivate the students to use English with the teachers, introduce pair work, peer-correction, and use dictionaries frequently etc.Keywords: argumentative essay, linguistics problems, cognitive problems, psychological problems

Abstract

This study focused on needs analysis and course design of English for accounting in tertiary education in Kuningan, West Java. It aimed to investigate the required learning materials and the suitable learning activities for accounting students of tertiary education. This study employed qualitative method. It was conducted in qualitative design with some data collected quantitatively through questionnaire and some collected qualitatively through interviews and document analysis from students and lecturers. The questionnaire was used for descriptive statistics, whereas interviews and document analysis were used for the collection of more in-depth and emergent data. This study revealed that listening and speaking skills are the priority in teaching English which is closely followed by writing and reading. The highest students’ preferences for classroom learning activities are vocabulary exercising, followed by simulation and grammar exercising. It is also found that most students consider English is important in their future career and they might need English to communicate with colleague and customer. This information target situation should be taken into consideration as the basis of syllabus and material development. The information from target situation analysis is important in ESP course since it is all about eliciting what the learners have to know related to their future career.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to find out the equivalence of directive speech act and its translation techniques in The Lion King movie. The study used the script of The Lion King movie, and its two kinds of subtitles, namely the professional translator version and the fansub version. A qualitative case study is used as research design while documentation is considered as the tool. The results found 6 types of directive speech acts among 143 directive speech acts. All of directive speech act in the movie “The Lion King” are translated equally by professional and fansub translators. There are also 272 translation grouping techniques in this study: 1) 115 (42,3%) total of single group techniques in both professional and fansub translation. 2) 114 (41,9%) total of duplet group technique in both professional and fansub translation. 3) 31 (11,4%) total of triplet group techniques in both professional and fansub translation. 4) 12 (4,4%) total of quadruplet group techniques in both professional and fansub translation. Literal translation is the most found type of translation technique, intended to translate simple texts and dialogues. Abstract

Dewasa ini, pandemi Covid-19 tengah dirasakan oleh seluruh negara, termasuk negara Indonesia. Tentunya, pandemi tersebut telah merubah tatanan kehidupan masyarakat, baik secara sosial, ekonomi, budaya, dan lainnya. Dalam hal ini, Universitas yang merupakan jenjang sekolah paling tinggi tentunya memiliki peranan penting dalam mengatasi masalah tersebut. Salah satu upaya dalam mengembalikan pertumbuhan ekonomi di masa pandemi ini ialah dengan cara menggali potensi suatu desa. Salah satu desa yang dianggap layak untuk digali potensi wisatanya adalah Desa Galaherang, Kecamatan Maleber, Kabupaten Kuningan. Rintisan Kampung Inggris merupakan salah satu kegiatan yang dicanangkan oleh karang taruna Desa Galaherang dalam meningkatkan pertumbukan perekonomian desa tersebut. Sejalan dengan kegiatan itu, maka kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris para tutor RKI melalui pelatihan Bahasa Inggris berbasis TOEFL. Akan tetapi dengan adanya pandemi CoVid 19, maka pelatihan pun tidak dapat dilaksanakan secara tatap muka. Pelatihan TOEFL secara daring merupakan salah satu alternatif memecahkan masalah tersebut. Pelatihan tersebut dilaksanakan selama 6 hari, terbukti mampu meningkatkan keterampilan Berbahasa Inggris para peserta pelatihan sebanyak 12 orang, dimana 10 diantaranya (83%) mencapai skor minimal TOEFL.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk menguatkan literasi Bahasa Inggris siswa SD melalui storytelling di Desa Kalimanggis Wetan, Kecamatan Kalimanggis, Kabupaten Kuningan.  Pelaksanaan kegiatan PKM ini berjalan dengan baik. Hal ini ditunjukkan dengan respon baik dari peserta, serta antusiasme yang tinggi selama kegiatan berlangsung. Terlebih lagi, kesan dan pesan yang mereka berikan kepada tim PKM dimana mereka menginginkan kegiatan ini terus berlangsung. Selain itu, sesuai dengan pesan yang disampaikan oleh Kepala Desa bahwa agar kegiatan ini dapat dilaksanakan secara rutin, sehingga dapat dikatakan, tujuan utama dari kegiatan ini yakni untuk penguatan literasi Bahasa Inggris siswa SD melalui storytelling tercapai. Oleh karena itu, penulis merekomendasikan kegiatan ini untuk menjadi agenda mingguan di setiap Taman Baca agar literasi siswa SD dapat meningkat. Kegiatan ini tidak hanya bisa dilakukan oleh dosen saja, tetapi dapat dilakukan oleh pihak manapun. Seperti mahasiswa, anggota karang taruna, penggiat kegiatan pemberdayaan masyarakat lainnya

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the translation of racist content in the movie subtitles of "Rush Hour 3" by Dhespy fansub (Movieku) and Putra fansub (Lk21). The research uses a qualitative method and a case study design. Document analysis, including transcripts and subtitles, was employed in this research. The data were analysed by using the theory from Molina and Albir (2002). The result shows that 86 data were taken from the 2 fansub translators (43 data for each). Based on findings, there are 14 types of translation techniques are used, namely; Adaptation, Amplification, Borrowing, Calque, Compensation, Description, Establish Equivalent, Generalization, Linguistic Amplification, Linguistic Compression, Literal Translation, Modulation, Particularization, and Reduction. The researchers found that both fansubs used multiple translation techniques, with single (38%), duplet (40%), triplet (20%), and quartet groups (2%). In the Dhespy group, single grouping occurred 16 times (37%), duplet 15 times (35%), triplet 10 times (23%), and quartet 2 times (5%). In the fansub group, single grouping occurred 17 times (40%), duplet 19 times (44%), triplet 7 times (16%), and quartet none. The researchers hope this research can be helpful as a reference for readers who want to add knowledge about language features to their study. Abstract

Psychology is a general concept that every human being possesses. Using Freud's Psychoanalytic Theory, this study investigates the types of Psychological Aspects found in Geralt, the main character in Andrzej Sapkowski's novel "The Witcher: The Last Wish" (Id, Ego, and Superego). The researcher used the qualitative method and a case study design to achieve the research goal. The data is gathered through document analysis in the form of the main character's utterances. The researcher discovered 806 data from Geralt's utterances, with 149 data (18.48%) included the Psychological Aspects. According to the findings, 34 data were assigned to the Id (22.81%), 40 data were assigned to the Ego (26.84%), and 75 data were assigned to the Superego (50.33%). The most noticeable Psychological Aspect of Geralt's character is Superego. The superego is the component of personality acquired from one's parents, and society includes the values and morals of society learned from one's parents and others. According to the story, Geralt has been an orphan since he was a child and has survived to grow up on his own.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh kompetensi aparat desa, efektivitas pengelolaan keuangan desa dan sistem pegendalian internal terhadap akuntabilitas pengelolaan keuangan desa di Kabupaten Kuningan pasca pandemi covid-19. Pengelolaan keuangan desa yang akuntabel merupakan pengelolaan keuangan yang bisa dipertanggungjawakan mulai dari kegiatan perencanaan, pelaksanaan, penatausahaan, hingga pelaporan keuangan desa. Terwujudnya akuntabilitas merupakan tujuan utama dari reformasi sektor publik. Pengendalian internal merupakan sistem atau prosedur yang ada dalam suatu organisasi untuk menjaga proses kegiatan operasi sesuai dengan kebijakan yang telah ditetapkan guna pencapaian tujuan organisasi itu sendiri. Metode penelitian dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif verifikatif. Menurut Sugiyono (2017) metode deskriptif adalah statistik yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data dengan cara mendeskripsikan atau menggambarkan data yang telah  terkumpul sebagaimana adanya tanpa bermaksud membuat kesimpulan yang berlaku untuk umum atau generalisasi. Instrumen pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah kuesioner atau angket wawancara dan observasi. Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 129 responden yang meliputi kepala desa, kaur keuangan/bendahara dan Badan Permusyawaratan Desa (BPD) di setiap desa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pemerintah desa sebagai sampel yang berperan penting dalam pengelolaan keuangan desa di Kecamatan Garawangi, Kecamatan Kramatmulya dan Kecamatan Kadugede di Kabupaten Kuningan. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah sampling jenuh dimana seluruh populasi dijadikan sampel. Uji analisis dalam penelitian ini menggunakan uji instrument, uji asumsi klasik, uji regresi berganda, uji koefisien determinasi, uji hipotesis dengan menggunakan program SPSS 20. Penelitian ini diperuntukkan dapat menambahkan efek moderasi untuk memperoleh model yang lebih lengkap, yakni love of money dan integrity. Hal ini penting untuk membantu bagi kepala desa dalam pengelolaan keuangan desa sehingga dapat mengatasi kemiskinan di desa, terutama pada pemulihan pasca pandemi covid-19
