Abstract

Insertion of an IV is a medical procedure that is often performed on children in hospitals. This procedure often causes anxiety and pain which can affect the child's comfort and healing process. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between anxiety levels and the intensity of pain felt by children when installing an IV. Methods: The research method used is quantitative with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling by paying attention to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The total number of respondents in this study was 60 people. Data was collected through an anxiety questionnaire using the facial image scale (FIS) and a pain scale using the Wong Baker Face questionnaire. These two questionnaires were filled out by the child before and after the infusion procedure. Results: The results of data analysis showed that there was a significant positive correlation between the level of anxiety and the intensity of pain felt by children (r=0.49, p<0.05). Conclusions: The results of this study show that the higher the child's anxiety before the infusion procedure, the higher the pain intensity felt. This research suggests the importance of psychological intervention to reduce anxiety in children before the infusion procedure in order to reduce pain and increase the child's comfort during hospital treatment.

Abstract

Background: Elderly individuals residing in care facilities possess the potential for low physical activity, frequent illness, a hostile environment, and a lack of self-confidence, causing older people to become anxious, stressed, and even depressed. Unfortunately, no intervention can overcome this problem. Occupational art therapy involves using artistic mediums as a form of treatment and creative processes to help express oneself, improve individual physical and coping skills, manage stress, and strengthen self-confidence. Methods: This research aims to explain the effect of occupational art therapy on depression, stress, and anxiety in older adults in nursing homes. This research uses a quasi-experimental pre and post-test design. The total sample used was 60 respondents, who were divided into intervention and control groups using a sampling technique, namely purposive sampling. Data were collected using the short version of the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (21 items). Descriptive statistics, frequency distribution, and Paired and Unpaired T-tests were applied for data analysis. Results: The findings of the research indicated that occupational arts therapy could reduce depression scores with an average difference of 8.63, namely an anxiety score of 5.54 and a stress score of 3.59. Data analysis showed that occupational art therapy significantly reduced anxiety, depression, and stress scores (p-value 0.000). Conclusion: Occupational art therapy can be used as a complementary therapy in nursing homes to reduce depression, anxiety, and stress in older people. The findings of this study are expected to help improve services in nursing homes, especially for reducing depression, anxiety, and stress in older people.

Abstract

Background: Stroke management requires speed in identification and action to improve stroke outcomes. Unfortunately, the identification of strokes is still slow. This study aims to determine the factors that influence the development of stroke patients. Methods: This study used a case-control design with a retrospective approach. This case-control study adheres to the STROBE reporting guidelines. Purposive sampling was applied with a sample size of 37 respondents. The variables studied were the type of stroke, the Early Warning Score (EWS), the time to seek health services, and the outcome of stroke patients. The Glasgow Outcome Scale Extended (GOSE) measures the effects on stroke patients. Spearman and Sommers's test analyzed data to determine the relationship between two variables, and the multiple regression test was used for multivariate analysis. Results: The results showed that the majority of stroke types were Non-Hemorrhagic Strokes (86.5%), the majority of EWS scores fell into the deficient category (51.4%), and the majority of the time spent seeking health services was less than 2 hours (94.6%). There is a significant relationship between the type of stroke (p-value 0.02), EWS score (p-value 0.01), and the time to seek health services and stroke outcome (p-value 0.03). Multivariate analysis revealed that the type of stroke, time to seek health services, and EWS scores were simultaneously or collectively associated with stroke patient outcomes (F count = 5.269 > F table = 2.88, with a coefficient of determination of 32.4%). This research showed that the type of stroke, time to seek health services, and the EWS score can be used as predictors of the outcome level of stroke patients. Conclusion: These findings highlight the importance of integrating Early Warning Score (EWS) into hospital protocols to support early recognition and timely response for stroke patients, potentially improving patient outcomes
