Abstract

The right to a good and healthy environment is part of human rights. Where the right to the environment as a human right to live in an environment with a minimum quality that allows the realization of a dignified and prosperous life. As part of human rights, the state must respect, fulfill, and protect the right to a good and healthy environment. To fulfill the right to a good and healthy environment, everyone is given the right to obtain environmental education, access to information, access to participation, and access to justice. In other words, without access to information, participation, and justice, the right to a good and healthy environment will be difficult to fulfill. The government needs a mechanism or instrument for these three accesses to fulfill the right to a good and proper environment for its citizens. In the next section, we will review mechanisms or instruments for access to information, as an effort to fulfill the right to a good and healthy environment, especially in the context of controlling air pollution, as well as the shortcomings and alternatives of these mechanisms or instruments. This study aims to analyze the discourse on the right to a good and healthy environment in Indonesia in the study of human rights and environmental law in Indonesia.

Abstract

Numerous methodologies have been employed to enhance competencies in climate change education. However, applying and systematically evaluating field trips as a pedagogical approach in climate change education must be explored. It is essential to explore pre-service teachers' perceptions regarding the impacts of their participation in field trips. This study evaluated the significant changes observed in pre-service teachers following field-trip-based learning. The field trip program was evaluated using the Most Significant Change (MSC) evaluation model. The results identified several themes of substantial changes in pre-service teachers. This study concludes that field trip-based learning facilitates positive transformations in pre-service teachers, as evidenced by their favorable responses following the field trip and their reflective insights on the conceptual understanding of climate change. This research contributes to scientific understanding by demonstrating that sea level rise, which has led to the submergence of villages along the northern coast of Java, serves as a valuable contextual framework for field trips to study the impacts of climate change. In recognition of the limitations, future research should broaden its scope to include field trip activities in diverse geographical settings.

Abstract

Indonesia is a tropical country that is vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Climate change causes an effect on the level of comfort (heat stress) that can affect the level of human immunity, one of the indices to calculate the level of human comfort (heat stress) is the Thermal Humidity Index (THI). Climate change scenarios modeled in Earth System Models (ESMs). ESM has a coarse resolution and is subject to considerable bias. This research is using secondary data. The data source used in this study comes from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5). This research will focus on projected heat stress which is calculated based on THI with the temperature and humidity variables. Therefore, in this research to reduce the bias correction method used Statistical Downscaling (SD) and nonparametric regression. The results of the bias correction using the Statistical Downscaling (SD) method and Nonparametric Regression Fourier-Polynomial Local Series in this study the R-square value for Relative Humidity yields 95% and for Temperature yields 94%. The projection of climate change based on the value of the Temperature Humidity Index (THI) in Indonesia in the category of 50% of the population of Indonesians feeling comfortable conditions occurred in 2006-2059. Then the population of citizens in Indonesia felt uncomfortable conditions occurred in 2060 to 2100 with a THI value of 27.0730°C - 27.7800°C.

Abstract

The last decade was recorded as a decade with a bad record on the issue of disasters in the world due to climate change. Measuring public opinion is one of the steps to mitigate the impact of climate change. Twitter is a popular social media for channeling opinions. Twitter provides a great source of data for understanding public opinion and the perceived risk of an issue. In recent decades, when discussing climate change, there are those who agree and those who oppose it. Sentiment analysis is a branch of learning in the realm of text mining that is used as a solution to see opinions on a problem, one of which is climate change. In this study, we will try to analyze opinions on climate change issues using the Random Forest and Naïve Bayes classifier methods. Data were obtained from Twitter for the period January 2022-June 2022. The training data used in this research is 80%:20%. There are slightly more positive statements than negative ones. The results obtained with the Naïve Bayes classifier method are an accuracy of 76.25%, an F-1 score of 78%, and a recall of 80%. While the results of the random forest method are 70.6% accuracy, 69% F-1 score, and 63% recall. The Nive Bayes method is better than the Random Forest method for classifying climate change opinions with an accuracy of 76.25%.

Abstract

The development of biodegradable foam, or Biofoam, utilizing water hyacinth cellulose and arrowroot starch, presents a promising alternative to the environmentally detrimental use of polystyrene foam. Water hyacinth, which proliferates extensively in the Semarang region and is often regarded as a parasitic species, boasts a significant cellulose and fiber content, quantified at 72.63%. This high cellulose content renders it a viable resource for the production of sustainable packaging materials, thereby addressing both environmental pollution and associated health risks posed by traditional polystyrene foam. This study aims to characterize the properties of the produced foam through a series of antimicrobial tests, tensile strength tests, and biodegradability assessments. The raw materials utilized include cellulose derived from water hyacinth stems, arrowroot starch, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), chitosan, and polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG 400). The result showed that Biofoam exhibits no bacterial growth, as determined by antimicrobial testing. The tensile strength test results were consistent with Synbra Technology standards, with tensile strength values ranging from 1.58 MPa to 2.63 MPa. Furthermore, Biofoam has successfully passed the biodegradability test, as evidenced by its degradation in soil using the soil burial test method, which is characterized by the physical transformation of Biofoam into a softer and more porous material. To improve the performance of the biofoam, further research is needed regarding its shape.

Abstract

Climate change represents a critical global challenge with profound impacts on human societies. One prominent strategy to mitigate its effects involves fostering low-carbon behavior, often termed low-carbon literacy. Although prior research has investigated various aspects of low-carbon literacy, there has been limited focus on high school students in Central Java, a region acutely impacted by climate change. This study evaluates the low-carbon literacy of high school students in Central Java, Indonesia. Using a validated survey instrument, the research measured three primary domains: knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors, through 31 items. The study sampled 400 high school students, revealing an overall literacy score of 4.3 out of 5 across these domains. Despite the relatively high average score, each domain exhibited specific deficiencies, underscoring the necessity to enhance low-carbon literacy further. A significant limitation of this study is the instrument's contextual specificity to Central Java, which calls for the development of more comprehensive assessment tools and the inclusion of a more geographically diverse sample in future investigations.
