Abstract

The concept of urban agriculture can overcome the problem of shrinking productive agricultural land. Urban agriculture can run successfully in communities that have good social capital. This study aimed to investigate the role of social capital in urban farming success within the Dahlia Farmer Group. Conducted from December to January 2024. This research uses the methods analysis technique used is quantitative and statistical in the form of multiple linear regression. This research shows that norms have an important role in supporting the success of urban agriculture by establishing SOPs for members. The contribution of norms is essential because they create the basis for effective coordination within the group and ensure the achievement of common goals. Trust and networks have proven to be less influential because urban farming relies more on management and knowledge than on interpersonal relationships. The differences in previous studies bring newness (gap) in the research to be conducted. This study will contribute new understanding of the relationship between social capital and urban agriculture in farmer groups in urban areas, namely the Dahlia Farmer Group. Suggestions for the Dahlia Farmers Group are to prioritize strengthening norms that support urban agriculture, such as strengthening digital networks, developing mentorship, organizing social activities, establishing partnerships with external parties, and implementing a reward system.

Abstract

Cohesiveness and sociodemographics are important in determining the participation of members in the village group to achieve the goal of the farm group itself. The research aims to analyze the influence of the cohesiveness of the group and socio-demographics (age, education, experience, and number of family members) on the involvement of members of the rural group. The locations of the research are Tani Tranggulasi and Bangkit Merbabu Group, Batur Village, Getasan District, and Central Java District. The research method used was census, which took the entire peasantry group of 85 people as respondents. Data collection was carried out through interviews with questionnaires for primary data, observations, and documentation for secondary data. The method of analysis used was double linear regression analysis with the help of SPSS in data processing. The results shows that independent variables have a real combined influence on dependent variables. It means that cohesiveness, age, education, experience, and the number of family members have a collective impact on the participation of the peasant group. In part, cohesiveness, age, and experience influenced the participation of the peasant group members, while education and the number of family members did not restrict the membership of the rural group. The results of this study can be used as a learning experience for farmer groups and as a reference for the government in implementing programs in farmer groups. Given that the members of the peasantry group come from different age groups that influence their physical abilities, it is recommended to change the meeting schedule from the original one in the evening into the morning.

Abstract

Perception is the stage where information enters a person's mind and is associated with their thoughts, emotions, and individual experiences. Farmers' perceptions of financial institutions reflect their expectations, yet many feel doubtful or hold negative views. This research aims to analyze farmers' negative perceptions of financial institutions and identify the causes of their closure. The study was conducted from June to August 2024 in Koripan Village, Matesih Subdistrict, Karanganyar Regency. The survey method was used in this research. The sampling method applied was proportionate random sampling using Isaac and Michael's formula, with a total sample of 257 farmers, and purposive sampling for selecting the sample from the financial institution's management. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to determine the factors influencing farmers' perceptions, score intervals to categorize the level of negative perception, and descriptive analysis to identify the causes of the institutions' closure. The results of this study show that all independent variables significantly affect farmers' negative perceptions both simultaneously and partially, leading to the closure of financial institutions due to internal and external factors. Distrust, bad experiences, skepticism, and low expectations lead farmers to prefer old practices, even if they are no longer optimal. In the future, financial institutions should conduct widespread socialization, have their management directly supervised by the government, and regenerate members with sufficient financial management skills.
