Abstract

As an event that grabs the public's attention, domestic violence (KDRT) is still making headlines in various mass media lines, including cyber media. This study aims to identify cases of domestic violence reported by the cyber media Hulondalo.Id and describe the categorization patterns made by the media to frame domestic violence events in Gorontalo. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with a framing analysis tool from Murray Edelman. The results showed that the cases of domestic violence published by the cyber media Hulondalo.Id were quite diverse. In the news, certain categorizations are formed for perpetrators and victims of domestic violence. This form of categorization becomes a pattern of media framing of cases of domestic violence that occurred in Gorontalo. The pattern made by Hulondalo.Id places the perpetrators as coercive, drunken, sadistic, barbaric, and persecuting figures. Meanwhile, the victim is positioned as a helpless figure, a patient young wife, and a poor woman. Ideologically the media position themselves as siding with the victim. But the textual facts prove that the Hulondalo.Id cyber media tends to exploit the identity of the victim rather than the identity of the perpetrators of domestic violence.

Abstract

It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.”

Abstract

This article explores how third countries can claim social media information from their citizens as a legal measure to protect and fight for the rights of women and children in armed conflict. The exploration is conducted normatively with a socio-juridical approach and a comparison of state implementation of the law. Implementing law in this approach will involve comprehensive analyses that include understanding legal texts, examining social impacts, and comparing practices across different jurisdictions to draw appropriate conclusions. This research shows that social media can serve as a platform to raise global awareness of human rights violations, provide digital evidence that can be used in international tribunals, and exert diplomatic pressure on states involved in violations. Social media also enables cross-border collaboration between governments, international organisations and NGOs to coordinate legal and advocacy efforts. However, challenges include disinformation, digital security risks, and technology access gaps that can hinder the effective use of social media as a legal tool. Nonetheless, with the right strategies, third countries can utilise social media to strengthen international law enforcement and support the fulfilment of the rights of women and children in conflict zones. In conclusion, despite significant challenges, third countries can claim the use of social media as an effective legal measure in their efforts to support and protect the rights of women and children in situations of armed conflict.

The objectives of this research are to describe the signs of discrimination against Javanese women as portrayed through the character Dasiyah, and to analyzes the meanings and myths associated with the image of the “Javanese girl” as represented in the series. This research employs a qualitative approach using Roland Barthes’ semiotic method to uncover the denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings embedded in discriminatory scenes. The findings reveal the restriction of women ‘s roles, negative labeling of women active in public spaces, and the silencing of women’s voices within business inheritance systems. Dasiyah is represented as a figure of resistance to the myth of the Javanese woman through three core Javanese cultural values: Rukun (harmony), Sabar (patience), and Nrimo ing pandum (grateful acceptance).
