Abstract

The objectives of this research were to investigate whether VAK learning style as a technique has significant effects in improving students’ writing ability and the students’ interest in VAK learning style as a technique in studying English writing.This research employed quasi experimental design. The population of this research was the eleventh grade students of Science Program SMA Negeri 1 Bontomarannuin academic year 2014/2015.This research used cluster random sampling.The sampleconsisted of 60 students that belonged to two groups: 30 students in the experimental andcontrol group.The data was collected by using writing test and questionnaire.The findings showed that there was an improvement on the students’ writing ability after the treatment. The students’ result of posttest of experimental group was more significantly improved than the students’ result of posttest of control group by the mean score 73.2 > 58.1.The difference of both scores was statistically significant based on the t-test value at significant level 0.05 in which the P-value is lower than the significant level (0.0001 < 0.05).The mean score of the students’ interest in the experimental group was 91.63 and it was categorized as strongly interested. Abstract

Pandemic Corona Virus Diseas 2019 (Covid-19). Covid-19 is not the first virus to hit Indonesia because there have been other viruses such as the dengue fever virus and the bird flu virus which spread quite massively. The theme that is the focus of this program is socialization and education on preventing the transmission of COVID-19 by emphasizing Clean and Healthy Living Behavior. The method used in this program is socialization to online motorcycle taxis on Jalan Adiyaksa in Masale Village, Makassar City. This program consists of several activities such as distribution of amphlets and distribution of brochures, socialization of healthy living, Clean and Healthy Living Behavior, hand washing training, physical distancing habits, providing masks, and providing hand sanitizer assistance. The evaluation is carried out by considering the benefits of the program, the accuracy of the target and the accuracy of the method. This activity can help online motorcycle taxis find information about Covid-19 and be able to provide provisions for preventing the transmission of Covid-19 by implementing a clean and healthy lifestyle. In addition, by providing an understanding of health protocols which include Clean and Healthy Living Behavior, routine hand washing and physical distancing habits, in daily life, it is hoped that the spread of Covid-19 in Indonesian society in general and the people of Lombok in particular can be stopped immediately.Keywords: Online Ojek, Covid-19, Education

Abstract

Media sosial memang memiliki daya tarik yang mampu memikat penggunanya untuk terus menikmati sajian – sajian konten di dalamnya. Para pengguna media sosial tidak hanya dapat membagikan foto, video, berkirim pesan secara pribadi namun mereka juga bisa membuat tulisan “nyinyir” untuk menyindir pihak tertentu. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk 1) menganalisa faktor – faktor penyebab pengguna media sosial menuliskan pesan “nyindir” pada story sosial media mereka, dan 2) menganalisa bagaimana pengguna memaknai keberadaan dirinya sendiri berdasarkan konsep diri William D Brooks dan Philip Emmen. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dan teknik pengumpulan data secara dokumentasi untuk membahas mengenai isi pesan tertulis yang terkandung di dalam sebuah media. Data penelitian akan dikumpulkan dengan cara tangkap layar media sosial para pengguna yang kemudian akan dilakukan analisis konsep diri. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa yaitu orang – orang yang gemar “nyinyir” di media sosial memiliki konsep diri yang rendah (negatif) seperti : senang mencari perhatian agar orang lain memberikan feedback melalui kolom komentar, ingin mencari kepuasan dengan menumpahkan perasaan lalu mendapatkan beragam emoticon, mencari apresiasi atau pengakuan perihal perihal kebenaran hal yang disampaikan, senang mencari kesalahan orang lain dan merasa puas ketika menuliskan kesalahan yang sudah dilakukan oleh orang yang dimaksud di media sosial. Kata Kunci : Nyinyir, Media Sosial, Konsep Diri

Abstract

The globalization of Digital technology has impacted all facets of life including education, Therefore, using digital technology in teaching is very important.This research aims to investigate whether or not using digital technology – flipbook maker as a media effective to increase English reading skill and whether or not the students are interested in using digital technology – flipbook maker as a media to increase English reading skill. This research employed Research and development (R&D ) method. The population of this research was the tenth grade students of Frater Senior High School Makassar academic year 2023/2024. This research used cluster random sampling. The sample consisted of 30 students. The data was collected by using a reading test and quisionare. The findings showed that students’ result of the posttest was improved than the students’ result of the pretest by the mean score of 54,83 > 82,17. Then, the mean score of the student’s interest was categorized as strongly interested classification by mean score 88,17.

Abstract

The utilization of social media in education has become a significant innovation in enhancing students’ competencies, particularly in English communication skills. This study aims to analyze strategies for leveraging social media as a learning tool to improve students’ English communication skills. Using a qualitative method with a literature review (library research) approach, this study examines various academic sources, including scholarly journals, books, and reports related to the impact of social media on language learning. The analyzed data focuses on popular social media platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, which hold substantial potential for enhancing students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. The findings reveal that social media can be effectively utilized to create an interactive learning environment that supports English language learning. Strategies such as integrating video-based educational content, conducting online discussions on social media platforms, and developing collaborative online projects help students improve their communication skills in English. Furthermore, social media provides broad access to authentic learning materials, such as videos from native speakers, which enhance students' pronunciation and understanding of natural language contexts. However, challenges such as time management and the potential distractions of social media need to be addressed through structured pedagogical approaches. This study recommends that educators strategically integrate social media into the curriculum and provide clear guidelines for students on how to use social media for learning. With this approach, social media can become an effective tool for improving students' English communication skills in the digital era
