Abstract

Grade V MIM Al-Akbar Pandeyan students generally find it difficult to learn mathematics because they consider it a difficult and scary subject, even though mathematics has an important role in everyday life. This study aims to determine students' learning difficulties and the factors causing students' learning difficulties in mathematics subjects for grade V at MIM Al-Akbar Pandeyan, Ngemplak, Boyolali, in the 2022/2023 Academic Year. This study uses a quantitative descriptive research type. Data collection techniques use tests, questionnaires, and documentation. The results of the study show that: 1) The learning difficulties faced by students in mathematics subjects for grade V consist of two, namely students' difficulties in understanding the concept of material on nets of geometric shapes (cubes and cuboids) and difficulties in problem-solving, namely in arithmetic operations, solving story problems, and changing problem sentences into mathematical sentences; 2) The factors of learning difficulties faced by students in mathematics subjects of grade V at MIM Al-Akbar Pandeyan consist of two factors, namely internal factors (attitude in learning 54.80%, learning motivation 58.97%, physical health 44.87%, and sensory ability 45.19%) and external factors (teacher factors 39.74%, use of learning media 55.13%, school facilities and infrastructure 43.27%, and family environment 46.92%). Abstract

Abstract: The Society 5.0 era presents new challenges for the world of education, especially in improving teacher professionalism in utilizing digital technology. This study aims to analyze the challenges teachers face and identify strategies that can be applied to enhance their professionalism. The research method used is the Narrative Literature Review (NLR), with a qualitative approach based on thematic analysis of various relevant literature sources. The PRISMA method is applied to ensure a systematic selection and analysis process. The study results indicate that teacher professionalism in the Society 5.0 era is influenced by five main aspects: understanding digital technology, developing 21st-century competencies, implementing a humanistic learning approach, increasing capacity through continuous learning, and collaborating with various educational stakeholders. However, teachers face multiple challenges, including adaptation to digital technology, the digital literacy gap, the complexity of teacher tasks, inequality in access to technology, and demands for continuous competency development. The implications of this study emphasize the need for a holistic approach to improving teacher professionalism, with policy support that encourages constant training and the provision of adequate digital infrastructure. With the right strategy, teachers can optimize their role in forming an adaptive, innovative, and highly competitive generation in the Society 5.0 era.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills constitute fundamental competencies that students must develop to meet the demands of twenty-first-century education. However, science instruction in Indonesian junior high schools frequently lacks integration of local cultural contexts, thereby impeding students' capacity to connect scientific concepts to authentic real-world situations. This study aimed to examine the effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) integrated with the ethnoscience of Cirebon terasi (fermented shrimp paste) production on the critical thinking skills of junior high school science students. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group arrangement was employed. Participants comprised 68 seventh-grade students from SMPN 1 Cirebon, randomly assigned to an experimental group (n = 34) receiving PBL integrated with ethnoscience instruction and a control group (n = 34) receiving conventional instruction. Data were gathered using a validated critical thinking skills instrument based on Facione's six-dimensional framework, encompassing interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation, and self-regulation. The instrument demonstrated high content validity (CVR = 0.87) and reliability (Cronbach's α = 0.89). Results indicated a statistically significant difference in critical thinking skills between the experimental and control groups (t(66) = 11.42, p < 0.001), with normalized gain (N-gain) values of 0.72 (high category) and 0.35 (medium category), respectively, and a very large effect size (Cohen's d = 2.64). The greatest improvement was observed in the evaluation dimension (N-gain = 0.78). Furthermore, 87.6% of students expressed positive responses toward the ethnoscience-integrated PBL approach. These findings confirm that contextualizing science learning within the local wisdom of Cirebon terasi production through PBL significantly enhances critical thinking skills, thereby offering a culturally responsive and pedagogically robust model for science education in Indonesian junior high schools.

Abstract

Inappropriate self-medication limited public understanding of the DAGUSIBU (Dapatkan, Gunakan, Simpan, dan Buang) concept, and the widespread use of harmful cosmetic products remain major challenges in improving community health. This community service activity aimed to increase the knowledge of residents in Dusun Kepuhsari RW 38 regarding rational self-medication, proper application of the DAGUSIBU principle (Get, Use, Store, and Dispose of Medicine Correctly), and the risks associated with hazardous cosmetic ingredients. The activity was carried out through an educational and participatory approach consisting of a pretest, leaflet distribution, direct delivery of material by resource persons, interactive Q&A sessions, distribution of door prizes, and a posttest. The results showed an overall increase in participants' understanding across all three topics. Knowledge of self-medication increased by 1.2 times, while understanding of DAGUSIBU improved by 1.44 times. Education on harmful cosmetics also led to a significant improvement in participants' awareness of product legality, identification of dangerous substances, and associated health risks. Through this educational program, the community is expected to become more informed and responsible in using both medicines and cosmetics safely and wisely.
