Abstract

Diarrhoea in cats is a change in the condition of faeces from paste to liquid consistency caused by several factors, such as food changes and bacterial, viral, and parasitic infections. Handling diarrhoea in cats is performed immediately so that the symptoms subside. One effective prevention and control effort is the provision of colostrum-based supplements, probiotics and prebiotics. In a case of diarrhoea at the Depok Pet Center clinic, two cats aged 1.5 years (Ayu) and 5 years (Gentong) were given colostrum-based supplements, probiotics, and prebiotics. The initial symptoms of the Ayu cat were diarrhoea and liquid faeces, while the Gentong cat had decreased appetite, weakness, and paste-shaped faeces. Supplementation was carried out for two days. On day three, the condition of the faeces of both cats were solid and shaped, but some parts of the faeces were still mushy. On day six, the condition of the faeces of both cats was good, marked by being shaped and solid.

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the histological characteristic, type, and distribution of connective tissue in Sunda porcupine skin. The investigation was carried out in three adult of sunda porcupines at microscopic level using hematoxylin eosin, Masson thrichrome, Verhoeffs van Gieson, alcian blue pH 2.5 and periodic acid Schiff staining methods. Skin consists of epidermis, dermis hypodermis, and subcutaneous muscle. Quill follicles were the main and dominant structure as well as the specific characteristic on Sunda porcupine skin. The connective tissue was distributed well in basal membrane, dermis, quill follicle, and hypodermis with various intensity and density. The collagen was the main fiber found in the skin while the elastin fiber was not observed. The acid carbohydrate was found distributed well in the skin while the neutral carbohydrate was not detected in this study. In addition the fibers of connective tissue associated with the adipose tissue which found plentifully in quill follicles and hypodermis. The present results showed that the wide distribution of connective tissue might have an important role on the wound healing physiology of Sunda porcupine skin.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify various types of epiphytic Pteridophytes and their host trees. This study used an exploration method or direct exploration method and obtained the types of Pteridophytes found in the Paninggaran Village Forest. Plant observations were carried out by observing morphological characters in plants including leaf shape, leaf color, leaf length, and leaf width. The identification results were then matched with references, namely Flora books, Plant Taxonomy, and Plant Morphology. The application used Google Lens and the Global Biodiversity Information Facility/GBIF website. Plant observations were carried out by observing morphological characters in plants including leaf shape, leaf color, leaf length, and leaf width. Based on the results of the study, 10 species were found in the Paninggaran Village Forest and divided into 7 families and 5 types of host plants.

Abstract

Metabolic rate and oxygen saturation are crucial factors in understanding the physiology of fruit bats (Cynopterus titthaecheilus and Cynopterus brachyotis). This study aims to evaluate the resting metabolic rate and oxygen saturation in bats and their relationship to flight physiology. A total of 32 bats were categorized based on species, sex, and age. Metabolic rate was measured using a metabolic chamber method, while oxygen saturation was monitored using a patient monitoring system. The results showed that bat metabolism is influenced by various factors, including age and sex, without a significant correlation with body mass. Adult female bats exhibited highly fluctuating metabolic rates, possibly due to hormonal factors and increased energy demands during lactation. Additionally, C. titthaecheilus had an oxygen saturation of 94%±2.00 for males and 94%±1.73 for females, whereas C. brachyotis showed 98%±0.00 in males and 87%±4.16 in females. The high oxygen saturation in bats indicates an efficient oxygen transport system that supports their high metabolic activity during flight. This study provides insights into the physiological strategies of bats in maintaining high metabolism and oxygenation capacity, which are relevant to their ecology and overall health.
