Abstract

Larva Chrysomya bezzianamerupakan penyebab kejadian miasispada hewan ternak, dan merupakan masalah cukup serius karena dapat merugikan secara ekonomi.Pengobatan secara kimiawi dapat beresiko terhadap residu yang ditimbulkan, oleh karena itu perlu dicari obat alternatif berupa obat herbal yang aman bagi tubuh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui status kesehatan melalui pemeriksaan gambaran darah pada domba garut yang diinfestasi larva Chrysomya bezziana dan diberi terapi krim herbal sirih merah. Semua kelompok perlakuan dilakukan infestasi larva kecuali kelompok kontrol (K0). Pembuatan luka insisi dan diinfestasi 50 larva pada setiap lubang. Penelitian ini terdiri dari 5 kelompok perlakuan yaitu kelompok kontrol (K0), kelompok dengan terapi krim sirih merah 2% (P1), kelompok dengan terapi krim sirih merah 4% (P2), kelompok dengan terapi krim asuntol (KP), dankelompok tanpa terapi (KN).Pengambilan darah dilakukan pada awal pengamatan (pre terapi) dan akhir pengamatanyaitu hari ke-7 setelah terapi diberikan (post terapi). Parameter yang diamati berupa jumlah sel darah merah, kadar hemoglobin dan nilai hematokrit.Infestasi larva Chrysomya bezzianadan pemberian krim herbal sirih merah tidak berpengaruh terhadap jumlah eritrosit, nilai hematokrit, dan kadar hemoglobin.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pemberian krim sirih merah 4% memberikan profil darah yang paling baik. Krim sirih merah memiliki kemampuan dalam penyembuhan luka

Abstract

Salbutamol, a short-acting β2-adrenergic receptor agonist, due to illegal use in animal feed, is very dangerous for the safety of animal origin products. The purpose of this study is to determine the residue of salbutamol in plasma and urine of balinese calf after a single-dose administration. Three calves were given of feed fortification of salbutamol (10 mg/kg body weight). The salbutamol concentrations were measured in the plasma and urine. Samples were extracted with perchloric acid and purified by cation exchange solid phase extraction (SPE), then analyzed by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with a photodiode array detector using an RP C18 column with a mixed mobile phase of purified water pH 3.0 (adjusted with phosphoric acid) and acetonitrile (90:10, v/v). The highest salbutamol concentration in the plasma sample was 0.28±0.15 μg/mL at 12 hours and decreased after 24 hours after feeding. The highest concentration of salbutamol in urine was 15.85±4.42 μg/mL at 18 hours and decreased gradually starting at 24 hours. This result concluded that salbutamol residues mostly excreted in the urine, and the highest salbutamol residues in plasma samples formed faster but also decreased more rapidly than residues formed in urine. The residue formed in plasma is lower than that in the urine.

Abstract

Recently, from many kinds of diseases one could be counted is a tumor disease. Tumor is a degenerative disease that involved many biological pathways within the host. A tumor or neoplasm can be defined as a disturbance of growth characterized by excessive, abnormal and uncontrolled proliferation of transformed or altered cell(s) at  one or more primary points within the host, and frequently at  one or more metastatic sites (Priosoeryanto, 1994).The treatment of tumor is mostly by medical surgery which usually combined with chemotherapeutic agent(s), unfortunately the using of chemotherapeutic agent can develop a seriously side effect to the treated-patients. Biological substances like interferon (IFN) known as anti-virus agent is also one of promising candidate for treating or preventing of tumor disorders.Feline and canine squamous cell carcinoma is one of tumor type that often found in cat and dog, and mostly develop to a very aggressive disorder. The using of in vitro cell culture is a way to avoid the use of live animals on the study of tumors especially the study of antitumor agent due to can mimic the in vivo condition.  The aim of the present study is to examine the growth inhibition activity of natural and recombinant canine interferon in order to find the suitable biological substances for combating tumor disorder especially in the field of veterinary medicine and also as an information for the development of tumor treatment in the human medical side.

Abstract

INTRODUCTIONTumor  is  a  degenerative disease  as  the second agent cause of death in human. This disease is caused by disturbances of cell’s growth that show alteration and uncontrolled of cells proliferation. The uncontrolled of cells proliferation is also accompanied by penetration of that cells into others tissue and develop on it. Removed of tumor is usually done by operation or chemotherapy. Alternative treatment that can be used is herbal treatment. Typhonium flagelliforme known as “Keladi Tikus” in Indonesia; is known has a chemopreventive effect (2). Other researchers also show flavonoid glucoside of T. flagelliforme (1) can induce the activity of apoptosis in colon cancer cells (5). The aim of this study is to examine the in vitro anti-proliferation activity of Typhonium flagelliforme leaves ethanol extract on MCA- B1and MCM-B2 cell line.

Abstract

Larvae Chrysomya bezziana caused myiasis in most livestock in Indonesia. Drugs of choice for treating myasis are synthetic insecticides. Unfortunately the insecticides has negative effect on animal product, killed insect non target and insect resistenst. The research was conducted on the activity of ethanol extract of binahong leaves against various stages of C. bezziana larvae (L1, L2, and L3). Five treatments group tested were: group without any treatment (negative control), groups treated with ethanol extracts of binahong leaves 0.5%, 1%, and 2%, respectively, positive control were given coumaphos. The treatments were applied with five replications. Number of living larvae and pupae, pupae weight and number of imago were observed. The results demonstrated that 0.5% of the extract effective consentration which was able to kill the larvae (L1 and L2). Finally 2% of the extract was the most effective concentration which was able to kill larvae (L3) and decrease the pupae weight. Ethanol extract of binahong leaves was significantly able to reduce the growth of C. bezziana larvae due to contact and digestive effect of the active compounds contained in Anredera cordifolia leaf. ABSTRAK Miasis merupakan infestasi larva lalat yang terdapat pada jaringan hidup. Penyakit ini umum menyerang hewan maupun manusia. Obat yang digunakan sebagai pengendalian kasus miasis di lapangan sampai saat ini sangat terbatas dan menggunakan insektisida sintetik. Penelitian ini bertujuan melihat aktivitas ekstrak etanol daun binahong terhadap larva lalat Chrysomya bezziana pada stadium L1, L2, dan L3. Penelitian dibagi menjadi lima kelompok perlakuan dengan lima ulangan. Kelompok perlakuan terdiri dari kontrol negatif (tanpa pemberian obat), kelompok perlakuan yang diberikan ekstrak binahong dengan konsentrasi berturut-turut 0,5%, 1%, 2%, dan kelompok yang diberikan coumaphos (kontrol positif). Peubah yang diamati adalah jumlah larva yang hidup dan berkembang menjadi pupa, bobot pupa, dan daya tetas pupa menjadi imago. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun binahong pada konsentrasi 0,5% mempunyai efikasi sebagai larvasidal terhadap L1 dan L2 serta pada konsentrasi 2% merupakan konsentrasi terbaik sebagai larvasidal L3 larva C. bezziana. Ekstrak etanol daun binahong memiliki kemampuan menghambat larva lalat C. bezziana akibat dari efek cerna dan efek kontak bahan aktif yang terkandung di dalam daun binahong.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of ethanol turmeric extract ointment in woundhealing process of streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. Ethyl acetate and hexane fractions of ethanolturmeric extract were studied for their wound-healing properties in the formulation of ointment. Sixty micewere divided into 4 groups : group I was control (normal control, without treatment); group II was diabeticgroup (diabetic, without treatment); group III was diabetic and treated with ethyl acetate fraction ointment,group IV was diabetic and treated with hexane fraction ointment. The diabetic groups were i.p injectedwith 40mg/kg of streptozotocin and all groups were received incision 2 cm on their back skin. The ointmentsof ethyl acetate and hexane fraction were given topically twice a day. Three mice from each groups werenecropsied at 2nd, 4th, 7th, 14th and 21st days post incision (pi) for gross pathological and histopathologicalevaluation of the injured skin. Gross examination revealed that the ethyl acetate and hexane fractionointment groups showed better result on wound-healing process compared to the diabetic group.Microscopically, the ethyl acetate and hexane fraction ointment groups showed faster neovascularizationand reepithelialization compared to the diabetic group. In comparison with the diabetic group, the ethylacetate and hexane fraction ointment groups showed fewer neutrophils infiltration which indicated antiinflammatory activities of ethyl acetate and hexane fractions. Based on the macroscopic and microscopicobservation, the ointments of ethyl acetate and hexane fraction have properties to promote wound healingin diabetic mice.

Abstract

Curcuma longa (turmeric) is one of the tropical plant belong to Zingiberaceae family. It has beneficialeffects in healing of variety diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of  atopical gel formulation of n-hexane fraction of Curcuma longa in the wound healing of hyperglycemic mice.A total of 30 hyperglycemic mice were divided into three groups. They were given topical application, NC asa negative control (gel base), PC as a positive control (Neomycine sulfate 5%), treated groups (HF = n-hexane gel). Histopathological examination of the skin was performed to evaluate the wound healing.  Theresult showed that, there were no changes on tha appearance of the gel preparation, physically.  Evethoughupon the pH determination of the gel at six month of storage at 40ºC there were significant difference.  Theeffect of n-hexane gel, in terms of decreasing the surface area of wound and histopathological characteristicswere significantly (p <0.05) different between the PC group and HF group.  Skin irritant test showedneither rashes, swelling, inflammation, redness, irritation, itching nor any other toxicity  symptoms followingapplication of the gel. Significant effect of n hexane fraction of C. longa gel on wounds without any adversedermal toxic effects sounds very promising and it may be employed in the management of diabetic wound.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari efektivitas ekstrak etanol daun keladi tikus (Typhonium flagelliforme) untuk terapi penyakit tumor. Penelitian ini menggunakan enam ekor mencit betina berumur lima minggu dengan bobot badan 20-25 g yang telah diinduksi karsinogen 7.12- dimetilbenz(?)anthracne (DMBA). Mencit dibagi menjadi dua kelompok perlakuan masing-masing kelompok terdiri dari tiga ekor mencit yaitu kelompok yang diberi plasebo (KK) dan kelompok yang diberi ekstrak etanol daun keladi tikus (KE). Kelompok KK diberi plasebo berupa aquabides. Kelompok KE diberi ekstrak etanol daun keladi tikus dengan dosis 120 mg/kg BB. Pengamatan dilakukan secara makroskopik dan mikroskopik. Massa tumor dari kedua kelompok mencit dikoleksi dan difiksasi dalam neutral buffered formalin (NBF) 10%. Kemudian dibuat preparat histopatologi dan diwarnai pewarna Hematoksilin-Eosin (HE). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan gambaran makroskopik permukaan kulit pada daerah tumbuhnya tumor mengalami alopesia, tumbuh benjolan berwarna kemerahan dan keropeng. Hasil pengukuran bobot badan mencit kelompok KK mengalami penurunan, sedangkan berat badan mencit pada kelompok KE mengalami kenaikan setiap minggunya. Diameter tumor kelompok KK mengalami peningkatan, sedangkan diameter tumor pada kelompok KE mengalami penurunan pada minggu ke empat pemberian bahan uji. Gambaran mikroskopik menunjukkan benjolan massa tumor yang terbentuk terdiri atas tiga jenis tumor yaitu anaplastic carcinoma (16,7%), fibrosarcoma (16,7%) dan squamous cell carcinoma (66,6%). Ketiga tumor digolongkan dalam diferensiasi baik 33,4%, diferensiasi sedang 33,4%, diferensiasi buruk 16,7%, dan tidak berdiferensiasi 16,.7%. Laju pertumbuhan tumor selaras dengan tingkat diferensiasi. Tumor yang bermetastasis sebanyak 50% dan tidak bermetastasis sebanyak 50%. Rataan indeks mitosis dan angiogenesis terjadi penurunan yang nyata (p<0.05) pada kelompok mencit yang diberi ekstrak etanol daun keladi tikus dibandingkan kelompok kontrol. Disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun keladi tikus menurunkan pertumbuhan tumor dan dapat digunakan untuk terapi tumor.

Abstract

Traditional remedies generally use plant based therapies for treatments. The availability of plantfor treatments is relatively abundant in Indonesia, whether as treatments for diabetic wounds or antiinflammation. Curcuma longa Linn has been reported as an alternative treatment for several diseasesincluding wound healing. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible effect on wound healing ofethyl acetate of C.longa gel in skin hyperglycemic mice. The ethyl acetate of C.longa gel was evaluated toassess its healing efficiency on excision wound. Thirty mice were used in this study. The mice were dividedinto three groups i.e.: KN as a negative control (without treatment), KP as a positive control (Neomycinsulfate), and treated groups (GE= ethyl acetate gel). There was a significant effect on histopathologicalcharacteristics in wound healing of treated mice with ethyl acetate gel compared with KN mice. It seemthat C.longa gel is a potential for phyto-therapeutic agent in management of wound healing.

Abstract

The objectives of this research was to examine the efficacy of red betel extract ointment to eritrogram profiles in infected sheep myiasis. Fifteen female sheeps were divided into five treatments, which were sheep without wound, treated with asuntol 2%, without any treatment,with red betel leaf extract ointment 2% and 4 %. Three incision wounds were made on the sheep’s back, 50 larvae given to every wounds to four treatment, except the healthy sheep (K). Blood was taken on the 0, 3th and 7th to determine erythrocytes counts, hematocrit values (PCV) and hemoglobin levels (Hb). The result showed that oitment of red betel leaf extract do not change the erythrogram profiles. The administration of red betel leaf extract ointment 4% has better eritrogram profiles than 2% Oitment of red betel leaf extract can be used as myasis therapy.
