Abstract

Language has the power to influence people and their behavior in many instances, one of which is in the field of advertising. Magazine advertisements are not simply constructed but they are carefully made with many considerations. One of the considerations is that they have the intention to attract readers to buy any products advertised. Magazines in many instances employ more than one language style to produce a splendid advertisement. Magazines have their own way to manifest their ideas to promote a product. Language styles of advertising in magazines play an important role to attract the reader's attention. The purpose of this study is to identify the language styles of advertising employed in National Geographic Magazine and to explore how the delivery of meaning is set to the readers through the language styles of advertisement employed. This study utilizes qualitative descriptive methods and focuses on the theory of Pop. The data were taken from National Geographic Cover: Planet or Plastic? Issue. The results of this study showed that the advertisements in National Geographic Magazine used four language styles: morphological, syntactical, rhetorical, and slogan style. Among these four, the rhetoric style was the most used in this National Geographic Cover

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify and present the translation techniques used in the film Me Before You. The method in this research is descriptive qualitative, because the data presented is meaningful and can provide a real understanding. From the findings of the translation techniques in the film “Me Before You “founds as many as 446 data, the dominant translation techniques are Modulation as much as 90 data ( 20.2%), reduction 72 data (16.1%), literal translation 62 data ( 13.9%), compensation 46 data ( 10.3%), transposition 45 data ( 10.1%) Linguistics Compression 41 data ( 9,2%), Adaptation 11 data (2.5%), Calque 6 data (1,3%), Variation 3 data ( 0.7%), and Discursive Creation 1 data ( 0.2%).

Abstract

AbstrakBahasa Inggris memberikan kontribusi yang luar biasa sebagai sarana komunikasi yang dapat menghubungkan kita dengan negara luar. Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang baik dan benar harus didukung oleh sumber daya manusia yang berkualitas. Diantara jenis  keterampilan  yang harus diasah yaitu berbicara dan peningkatan kosakata sangat perlu untuk dibuat dan diteliti. Era globalisasi menuntut setiap individu untuk dapat setidaknya memahami bahwa Bahasa Inggris sudah menjadi pajanan umum yang bisa dijumapi diberbagai tempat di negara kita, contohnya bisa kita jumapi dalam alat -alat berbasis teknologi dan komunikasi. Guru sebagai salah seorang yang memiliki peran dominan dalam membantu siswa menguasai keterampilan dalam berbahasa Inggris. Guru seyogyanya bisa terus mengembangkan diri sehingga menjadi lebih kreatif, inovatif dan juga dapat membuat proses pembelajaran yang efektif bagi para siswa. Games memberi peluang untuk guru agar dapat diterapkan pada siswa sebagai cara menghilangkan kebosanan dan kejenuhan siswa dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris khususnya keterampilan berbicara dan peningkatan kosakata. Metode Role Play atau bermain permainan adalah salah satu games yang dapat diterapkan kepada siswa sehingga tim menjadikan metode ini sebagai salah satu kegiatan  pelatihan bagi guru khususnya pengajar PKBM Harmonis kecamatan Matraman Jakarta Timur ,agar dapat sebagai satu diantara berbagai media pembelajaran untuk mencapai tujuan agar meningkatkan Kosakata dan Kemampuan Berbicara Bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Advertisement is a form of mass communication. Advertisements contain about language, whether verbal and non-verbal. For that reason, advertisements can also analyze by language theories, like semiotic. Most television commercials portray the patriarchy of common perceptions where men make decisions for women and there is no place for gender equality. This work illustrates the analysis of the bold "liquid Dettol" advertisement in Indonesia that conveys a gender problem message. Semiotic analysis, qualitative, descriptive method, is used to analyze the signs associated with the message of gender issues, namely as high as the education of women, must be able to build their households, especially in comforting their children. In this research, researcher used the theory of Roland Barthes, through his semiotic theory to analyze gender myths in the ad. Myths can be analyzed through signs, which are contained in advertisements. In addition, the authors also use qualitative theories to analyze and describe this research.

Abstract

Movie is loved by almost people in the world. Many messages can be delivered on a movie. In this case, the writer wants to examine the movie entitled “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street by Tim Burton in 2007. This movie is a drama musical thriller genre because it contains many mysteries that must be paid more attention to understand about the psychological of Todd as the main character. The purpose of this research is to find out the psychopath characteristics of main character. The method that the writer used is qualitative method, after analyzing all the data the writer found that there are 5 characteristics of psychopath, which are: Aggressivity, Criminality, Lying, Violation of the right of others and Behavior that indicates apparent lack of guilty, anxiety and remorse do not have a sense of empathy. The most dominant characteristics of psychopath is Aggressivity.
