Abstract

Green beans (Phaseolus radiatus L.) are one of the food ingredients that grow in tropical environments and can be found almost throughout Indonesia. However, mung bean production in Merauke Regency is suspected to have decreased due to ineffective cultivation methods. So it is necessary to test several plant densities to increase mung bean production in Merauke Regency. This study aims to determine whether plant density affects the growth and production of green beans in Semangga District, carried out from June to September. This research was carried out with experimental methods and used Group Random Design (RAK), with 5 (five) treatments and repeated 3 (three) times with density treatments of 40 cm x 30 cm, 40 cm x 25 cm, 40 cm x 20 cm, 40 cm x 15 cm and 40 cm x 10 cm. The results showed that plant density treatment significantly affected the number of flowers, number of pods, number of seeds per pod, weight of 1000 seeds, sample production, and total production. While plant density treatment has no real effect on the level of 95% confidence in plant height and number of leaves. From the results of this study, J4 treatment (40 cm x 15 cm) provided the best growth and yield of green bean production.

Abstract

Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) Wasur National Park is an association of civil servant wives who play an important role in women's empowerment, particularly in supporting food security and improving household economies. These efforts are carried out through the utilization of small plots of land and the processing of kitchen waste into liquid organic fertilizer (POC) and plant-based pesticides. Training activities were conducted using lectures, question and answer sessions, practical demonstrations, and direct discussions with participants. From this series of activities, DWP members gained knowledge and skills in processing kitchen waste into useful products. The utilization of kitchen waste into POC and plant-based pesticides is a simple yet highly impactful step, as it not only helps reduce the volume of household waste but also adds value to the environment. Vegetable scraps, fruit peels, and food residues can be transformed into products that support environmentally friendly agriculture. Through this activity, DWP members can become more empowered in managing household waste while producing useful products to support food self-reliance and enhance family economic value.

Abstract

Abstract

Microgreens are nutrient-rich vegetables with a very short harvest life. Compared to mature vegetables, microgreens have a higher nutritional content. Besides that, microgreens are generally free from chemical pesticide contamination and are considered a very healthy food ingredient. This research aims to determine how fertilization influences the growth and yield of spoon mustard microgreens grown using rockwool media. The study was carried out at the Agrotechnology Laboratory at Universitas Musamus-Merauke from August to September 2024. The results of the study showed that fertilization influenced microgreen height, hypocotyl length, and hypocotyl diameter and had no effect on observations of the number of leaves and weight of 10 microgreens. In general, there is a tendency to use ABMix fertilizer as a source of nutrition to provide better growth and results. Keywords: Bokcoy, healthy vegetables, microgreens

Abstract

Abstract. Rusdiana O, Kusdaryanto S, Muttaqien W, Machfud, Djaja I. 2025. Multi-criteria decision analysis for optimal sugarcane land allocation in Merauke, South Papua, Indonesia. Asian J Agric 9: 689-701. Achieving sustainable sugarcane expansion requires integrating biophysical suitability with social and environmental considerations. This study applied a Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) using the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method to identify optimal areas for sugarcane cultivation in Merauke, South Papua, Indonesia. The analysis incorporates multiple criteria, including biophysical factors (climate, soil type, topography), land use policies (zoning, conservation areas), and social factors (land rights, indigenous communities' territories). Data were collected through field surveys, stakeholder interviews, and spatial analysis using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The results indicate that approximately 80% of the study area is biophysically suitable for sugarcane cultivation. However, when considering land use policies, the available area reduces to 43.77% due to the presence of protected areas, forests, and risk-prone zones. After factoring in the rights of indigenous communities and areas of cultural significance, the land available for sugarcane cultivation shrinks further, leaving only 38.16% of the land as suitable for development. This highlights the trade-off between agricultural expansion and environmental conservation, as well as the importance of respecting indigenous land rights in land use planning. The study highlights the importance of combining geospatial analysis and stakeholder input for policymakers, land planners, and agricultural and forest developers to guide evidence-based, sustainable agricultural expansion in emerging regions.
