Abstract

The main problem of upland rice cultivation is the presence of weeds, which cause a decrease in the quantity and quality of crop yields. Generally, farmers use synthetic herbicides to control weeds. One way to reduce the use of synthetic herbicides is by using kiambang extract bioherbicides which are applied to weeds. Currently, there is no research to determine the effect of kiambang extract on upland rice germination. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of kiambang bioherbicide on the germination phase of upland rice by giving several concentrations of kiambang bioherbicide. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 concentration treatments, namely 2,4-D herbicide, 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80% bioherbicide. Kiambang extract concentration was repeated 3 applicates for each replication; each experimental unit consisted of three Petri dishes containing 25 rice seeds. The research parameters were germination percentage, germination rate, length of the plumule, and radicle. Observational data were analyzed using analysis of variance (F test) at a level of 5% and continued with the Least Significance Different (LSD) test at a level of 5% to determine the difference between treatments. The results showed that the bioherbicide extract of kiambang (Salvinia molesta) 20% did not inhibit seed germination, but the seeds grew abnormally, while concentrations of 40%, 60%, and 80% inhibited germination.

Abstract

Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) Wasur National Park is an association of civil servant wives who play an important role in women's empowerment, particularly in supporting food security and improving household economies. These efforts are carried out through the utilization of small plots of land and the processing of kitchen waste into liquid organic fertilizer (POC) and plant-based pesticides. Training activities were conducted using lectures, question and answer sessions, practical demonstrations, and direct discussions with participants. From this series of activities, DWP members gained knowledge and skills in processing kitchen waste into useful products. The utilization of kitchen waste into POC and plant-based pesticides is a simple yet highly impactful step, as it not only helps reduce the volume of household waste but also adds value to the environment. Vegetable scraps, fruit peels, and food residues can be transformed into products that support environmentally friendly agriculture. Through this activity, DWP members can become more empowered in managing household waste while producing useful products to support food self-reliance and enhance family economic value.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of applying sago waste compost on the growth and yield of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) cultivated in marginal land. The research was conducted using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with one factor and five levels of compost dosage: B0 (0 tons/ha), B1 (5 tons/ha), B2 (10 tons/ha), B3 (15 tons/ha), and B4 (20 tons/ha), each replicated three times. Observed parameters included leaf number, stem diameter, plant dry weight, fruit number, fruit weight, and yield. Data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by the LSD test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that the application of sago waste compost had no significant effect on the number of leaves, stem diameter, and plant dry weight. However, the 20 tons/ha treatment (B4) significantly affected fruit weight and yield at 52 days after planting, producing the highest yield of 23.687 tons/ha. The effect was not significant at 45 and 59 days after planting. These results suggest that sago waste compost can enhance cucumber productivity during the fruit-filling phase, even though it has no significant effect on vegetative growth.).

Abstract

Pohon karet (Hevea brasiliensis Mull.

Abstract

The pre-nursery stage represents an initial phase that strongly influences the subsequent quality of oil palm seedlings. Nevertheless, information regarding leaf morphology and biomass distribution of oil palm seedlings under organic fertilization and water management remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate leaf morphological traits and biomass allocation of oil palm seedlings in response to oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) compost application and different watering intervals during the pre-nursery stage. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with two factors and three replications, consisting of EFB compost rates and watering intervals. Observed variables included leaf area, leaf number, dry weight of leaves, stems, and roots, as well as shoot–root ratio. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance at the 5% significance level and followed by Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test when significant effects occurred. The results indicated no interaction between EFB compost application and watering intervals for all observed parameters. Individually, both treatments did not significantly affect leaf morphology or biomass distribution. However, a numerical tendency of increased plant biomass was observed up to an EFB compost rate of 225 g per polybag, suggesting that seedling responses during the pre-nursery stage develop gradually rather than immediately
